Founded by the late Mr. Kamal Al.Shair, Dar Al-Handasah is one of the leading multidisciplinary engineering consultant that provide planning, design, management and consultancy for the world’s most important and exciting projects.Dar has worked with more than 950 clients from over 63 countries around the globe. With a team of +9,500 staff members, we operate in 40 offices in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Europe. Our five principal design centers are located in Beirut, Cairo, London, Pune, and Amman.
Who We Are?Dar BIM Unit
In the light of Dar’s migration from CAD into BIM, Dar has constructed an independent BIM Unit to lead this transition.
Dar BIM Unit consists of 43 Architects and Engineers distributed all over Dar design offices to ensure continuous Research & development, and VDC services.

Presentation Content
• Introduction to BIM (Building Information Modeling)• Introduction to BEM (Building Energy Modeling), and building energy
simulations• What/Why/ and How?
• How BIM could be utilized for better sustainable design decisions• How to use Revit and Autodesk Insight for design assessment?• Dynamo visual programming & Project Refinery for buildings’ Energy
Optimization
What is BIM
• Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a digital representation of physical and functional characteristics of a facility. A BIM is a shared knowledge resource for information about a facility forming a reliable basis for decisions during its life-cycle; defined as existing from earliest conception to demolition.
The US National Building Information Model Standard Project Committee
BIM dimensions - 3D, 4D, 5D, 6D, 7D BIM• Linking extra ‘Dimensions' of data to your information models has the
potential to give you a richer understanding of your construction project - how it will be delivered, what it will cost and how it should be maintained.
6D BIM
The utilization of 6D-BIM can result in more complete and accurate energy estimates earlier in the design process. It also allows for measurement and verification during building occupation, and improved processes for gathering lessons learned in high performance facilities.
What is BEM/EAM
Basically, a Building Energy Model (BEM)/ an Energy Analysis Model (EAM) is an abstraction of a building's overall form and layout into a ‘Computational Network' that can capture all of the key paths and processes of heat transfer throughout the building effectively.
What is BEM/ EAM
BEMs/ EAMs are used in whole building energy simulations, and gbXML is a common format for representing these models.
Why BEM
Having performance-based design rather than analyzingthe design when it’s already done.
Having a better IPD process (A new LEED V4 Credit).
Reduce design costs
Certification Requirements for Green Buildings require a demonstration of improved building performance using a simulation energy model

Autodesk Insight 360
Autodesk Insight 360• Insight 360 is Autodesk’s Solution for building performance analysis, it
was first released in 2015
• It facilitates robust integration with Revit and direct access to guidance and recommendations from trusted simulation engines and industry benchmarks (ASHRAE 90.1, Architecture 2030 Challenge)
Autodesk Insight 360
• Energy Cost Range• identify key energy performance drivers.• measure performance against ASHRAE 90.1 benchmark• making early seamless targeting and feasibility studies
• Quickly Compare Design Scenarios• save and compare your design scenarios to track
performance effects.• Share your insights with project stakeholders and access
all your outcomes anywhere.

Heating/ Cooling Loads
• Dynamic thermal heating and cooling loads for models created in Revit and FormIt 360 Pro.
• Generate tabular reports from Revit, or visualize heating and cooling loads in the Insight 360 web interface
Insight 360 data Validation
• Whole building energy analysis powered by Green Building Studio, a DOE-2.2 engine run in the cloud, and has been tested against ASHRAE 140.
• Daylighting analysis A360 cloud rendering, Validated through Radiance
• Solar Radiation Tested and validated by NREL• Heating/ Cooling calculations Runs on EnergyPlus, and ASHRAE 140
Compliant.
Visual Programming and Generative Design for sustainability
Dynamo
• A visual programming tool that aims to be accessible to both non-programmers and programmers alike.
• gives users the ability to visually script, define custom pieces of logic, and script using various textual programming languages.
• Open source graphical programming for design• Could work as a stand-alone application, or Run with Revit (Similar to
Grasshopper and Rhino)
Generative Design
• Generative design is a design exploration process.
• Designers or engineers input design constrains into the generative design software, along with parameters such as performance or spatial requirements, and cost constraints.
• The software explores all the possible permutations of a solution, quickly generating design alternatives.
GenerateEvaluate
Evolve
Generative Design
Generative DesignProject Refinery
• is an Autodesk generative design beta project for the architecture, engineering and construction industry.
• gives users the power to quickly explore, evaluate, and optimize their designs.
• lets you create design options, set goals, and optimize for those goals.

Conclusion
• We now have many tools in hand that can reduce the impact buildings have on the environment.
• These tools make sure the right people get the right information at the right time.
• An IPD is now mandatory not a luxury
