Our theme for the Carnival Procession this year is Red White and Blue, and we’re expecting a riot of colour on the carnival floats this year. We’re sure you will also have seen the fantastic red white and blue window displays in and around the High Street this year – many thanks to everyone who took part in this, and there’s a special prize for the best entry!
In the Arena this year we have a great Dog and Duck display team who will be doing two separate displays during the course of the afternoon, and animals are a real feature of the show this year. We have the ever popular Dog Show of course – Pedigree classes starting at 1pm, Fun classes at 1:30pm – plus our expanding animal corner where the kids will be able to get up close for some petting. We have a fantastic owl display, and for the first time this year we are offering donkey rides.
Over at the Food Court we have non-stop music throughout the afternoon, with something for all tastes from the Weald Band, Last Resort Ukuleles, Five Foot Two making a welcome return appearance, and a very special guest Willie Austen, who will be doing an extended set in the Food Court from 3:00pm.
Our Farmers Market, with local crafts and produce, was a big hit last year, and this year we’ve added an extra marquee so there’s even more to choose from. Make sure also that you visit the Arts & Crafts tent, to see whether you’re amongst the prize winners, or to inspire you to join in next year.
We would like to say a big thank you to our sponsors, advertisers, supporters and helpers – we couldn’t do the Show without you. Thanks also to Billingshurst Parish Council for allowing us the use of the field.
We hope that you’ll wish to keep this programme as a souvenir of the day and as a handy guide to some great local services. Have a great day, and we look forward to seeing you again next year.

Scouting and Guiding are UK's biggest youth organisations. Both Scouting and Guiding are alive and well here in Billingshurst. We have the facilities, we have the youngsters and we have a dedicated team of adult leaders. Why not join us so we can grow and get even better. It’s a great way to have fun, make friends, get outdoors, express your creativity and experience the wider world.
What do we do for our youngsters?
Scouting and Guiding helps children and young adults reach their full potential. We help develop skills including teamwork, time management, leadership, initiative, planning, communication, self-motivation, cultural awareness and commitment. We help young people to get jobs, save lives and even change the world.
We give them space where they can be themselves, have fun, build brilliant friendships, gain valuable life skills and make a positive difference to their lives and their communities. We build confidence and raise their aspirations. More than 90% of youngsters say that Scouting and Guiding helps them mature and develop lasting relationships
What do volunteer Leaders do?
This everyday adventure is possible thanks to our adult volunteers, leading and supporting activities in a wide range of roles from working directly with young people, to helping manage a Group, to being a charity Trustee. In short we change lives by offering youngsters fun and challenging activities, unique experiences, everyday adventure and the chance to help others so that we make a positive impact in communities
Our approach focuses on what you want to get out of volunteering, while respecting how much time you can offer. Over 90% of volunteers say that their skills and experiences have been useful in their work or personal life.
Bear Grylls, Chief Scout says about Scouting (and the same can be said for Guiding):
'Two things matter in life: following your dreams and looking after your friends. This is what I love about Scouting. 'It’s about doing great things, loving and enjoying the great adventures and helping others to do the same.'
If you are interested in joining us or would like to know more, contact our Chairman, Tony Priestley on 01403 786558 or email: [email protected]

Billingshurst Dramatic Society put on two productions a year, usually in the October and February half terms. Rehearsals are on Monday and Thursday evenings from 8pm to 10pm at the Women’s Hall in the High Street, and the shows are usually at the Women’s Hall. You may be the star of one play, director, props assistant, lighting operator or front of house assistant in another. In our view, all roles are equal in the pursuit of dramatic perfection!
Billingshurst Family Church meet at 10am on Sundays at the Billingshurst Centre, including age-appropriate activities for children. We have lots of other activities during the week, including Rainbow Toddlers on Monday mornings during term-time, also at the Billingshurst Centre. For more information, ring 01403 786706 or go to www.b-f-c.org.uk
Dauxwood Pre-School provides early years education for the community of Billingshurst and the surrounding areas. We are the oldest pre-school in Billingshurst, and have been at our current location for over 30 years. In 2010 our new school building was built, replacing our old premises with brand new, larger premises. At Dauxwood, we strive to ensure all children are happy to come into pre-school, and enjoy their time here. We provide an environment where the children feel free to express themselves, and we offer support to both children and families when needed.

Billingshurst Brownies meet every Thursday between 5pm & 6:30pm. Ages 7-10 years are all welcome to join in. For more details contact Linda Lyons on 01403 786488. This year the Brownies are joined in the procession by the youngsters from Billingshurst Rainbows.
Oaklands Beavers meet on Mondays between 5pm & 6:15pm. Beaver Scouts are the youngest section of the Scouting family. Their activities are based around making things, outdoor activities, singing, playing games, going out on visits, investigating nature, listening to stories, learning how to be safe and most importantly, making new friends.
Cedars Beavers meet on Tuesdays between 4:30pm & 6pm. Squirrel a.k.a Helen Pullen not only runs the Tuesday Beavers but also organises the Billingshurst Gang Show.
Rob Jameson brings his vintage steam engine, a fantastic vehicle that you can admire on the field during the show, where it will be parked up.
We hope also to be joined by the engine from the Billingshurst Fire Brigade, but of course this will depend upon whether they have any calls to attend to on the day!

The Billingshurst Companion Dog Show is run under Kennel Club rules and regulations, which we reproduce here - please take time to check them.
Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club offers the following guidance to help guide you through the do’s and don’ts travelling to and whilst at Kennel Club licensed events.
When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy holiday route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams.
If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all.
The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water available to drink.
Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog.
When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle.
Keep the dog in the shade – take your own shade, for example a large umbrella and always have plenty of water available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated.
Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths of time.
Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to dire results. Please look after your dog’s welfare.
Warning: if your dog is found to be at risk, forcible entry to your vehicle may be necessary without liability for any damage caused.
Anyone whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not put a dog’s health and welfare at risk by any action, default, omission or otherwise. Breach of Kennel Club Regulations in this respect may be referred to the General Committee for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Regulations.
Right to refuse entries. Exhibitors/competitors are reminded that show societies have the right under Kennel Club Regulations to refuse any entry.
A dog docked on or after the 6th April 2007 may not be entered for exhibition at this show.
