BILATERAL COOPERATION CHINA-ROMANIA In the frame of Bilateral Scientific and Technological Cooperation between Romania and People’s Republic of China, under the Agreement between the Government of Romania and the Government of the People’s Republic of China on scientific and technological cooperation, the project entitled: RESEARCH ON THE LARGE POWER SWITCHED RELUCTANCE MOTOR DRIVE IN COAL MINES has been approved. The partners of the project are: Technical University of Cluj-Napoca - TUCN, Romania, 15 C. Daicoviciu St., Cluj-Napoca 400020 (project manager Professor Viorel Trifa) and China University of Mining and Technology – CUMT, Xuzhou 221116 (project manager Professor Chen Hao). The duration of the project was of 2 years (2009-2010) and was financed by National Authority for Scientific Research (ANCS). The general objectives foreseen were: - Increasing performances of switched reluctance motors in coal mines applications; - Extension of research concerning the use of reluctance motors to other applications, such as light electric vehicles; - Strengthening and continuation the scientific contacts between the two partners. In the period of 12-26 October 2009, the team of Romanian partner from the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (TUCN), led by Professor Viorel Trifa, from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, as project manager, has been made a work visit to the universities of technical profiles from P.R. of China, within a PN II – Capacitati (modulul 3) project of Scientific and Technological Cooperation between TUCN and China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT), Xuzhou. As a remark, the initiative of this project belongs to the Chinese part, especially to Professor Chen Hao from that university. During the visit, the TUCN team has presented two scientific seminaries at the School of Mechatronic Engineering, CUMT. Also the team members (Professors Viorel Trifa, Mircea Radulescu, Eng. Olivia Trifa and Phd Student Carmen Ciurtin) participated with two papers to the 6th International Conference on Mining Science and Technology, organized by CUMT in 19-20 October 2009. One mention for Professor V. Trifa, which has been nominated as Chairman of Section F (Mining equipment and digitalization), on 19 October. Academic and research partnership of CUMT with other two Chinese top universities, such as Nanjing Normal University (Prof. Zhao Yang) and Beijing Tsingua University (Prof. Yongdong Li), facilitates the visit of TUCN research team to the research and excellence laboratories of the two universities. New collaboration perspectives between TUCN and the three Chinese universities have been outlined, basing on Romanian-Chinese bilateral programme in the field of science and technology. Romanian team had also the chance of technical visits to Xuzhou Sanyuan Electromechanical Device Manufacture Co., Ltd., a company specialized in the production of conveyors and high power electromechanic transport equipments for mining applications and which is actually in an industrial partnership with CUMT. Beijing Leader & Harvest Electric Technologies Co., Ltd. has been also visited and they deals with a.c. electrical drives based on medium voltage and variable frequency power electronic converters. This company is in a scientific and technological partnership with Department of Electrical Engineering, Tsinghua University.

During the whole visit one can see a remarkable hospitality and consideration from Chinese partners. Scientific collaboration between the two partners has been materialized by the following activities: 4 Common scientific papers presented and/or published; A common brevetting proposal: Device for driving light electric vehicles. Authors: V. Trifa, Chen Hao, C. Marginean. Registered OSIM A10001/2010; A Common Doctorate committee for defending PhD Thesis of Mrs. Carmen Ciurtin, at the TUC-N, 28 Sept. 2010. Member Profs. : Radu Ciupa, Mircea Radulescu, Hao Chen, Nicolae Muntean, Viorel Trifa. Title of the thesis: „Contributions to the study of Switched reluctance motors for applications in light electric traction”. Prospective economic results of this project are: - New opportunities for enhancing the design of Switched reluctance motors in Chinese coal mines; - New implementations of solutions for direct driving the light electric vehicles using reluctance electric machines, for both Chinese and Romanian markets of bikes, scooters and tricycles; - New contracts with industrial partners of both countries regarding the application of switched reluctance motors.
