MONDAY, 1/14 Creating a Safe Community of Learners: How will you learn your students’ names? How will you set a positive and focused tone for your class? How will you teach/ model the way you want your students to behave? How will they know what to expect? Time:10 minutes (# of minutes) Who will lead? Shared

Description of Activity/Activities: By sharing our names and sharing a dream of ours in a circle, students and teaching artists will become acquainted and a positive tone will be set for the experience. As we are sharing teaching duties, when one mentor is not teaching they will be modeling how an ideal student would behave. Due to a hint at the project to come, students will look forward to learning about their project to come.

The Big Idea: How will you engage the students in the project? How will you introduce them to the big ideas? How will they know what to expect? Time:10 minutes Who will lead? Shared

Description of Activity: After their class ritual of singing their “Namaste Song” we will get back into a circle to explain the project they will be taking part in. By explaining how they are the creators of the content of the musical, students will be excited to used their own voice. Clearly explained curriculum and many resources for question asking will make the expectations for the project clear.

CREATE (Learning in the Language of the Arts): What activities will the students do to engage in the creative process? What will they create/make/develop? How will you guide them through that? Time:20 minutes Who will lead? Shared

Description of Activity/Activities: Students will be sitting at tables to create their lines for the song in the musical. Once they complete this, with any assistance needed from teaching artists, they will go to their yoga mat and create their very own pose to perform in the musical.

PERFORM (Share/Exhibit): How will the students share what they’ve created? Time:20 (within CREATE time) Who will lead? shared

Students will be working together and bouncing ideas off of one another during their creative process.

REFLECT: How will students give and get feedback? How will you teach or model proper “critique etiquette?” What will students do with their feedback? What else do you want students to reflect on? Time:10 Who will lead? Shared

After the creative process, we will roughly run through the musical and tweak the performance as the students feel necessary. Through caring and light suggestion students will learn critique etiquette.

WEDNESDAY, 1/16 Creating a Safe Community of Learners: How will you set a positive and focused tone for your class? How will you teach/ model the way you want your students to behave? How will they know what to expect? Time:10 minutes Who will lead? Shared

Description of Activity/Activities: We will begin with a nerve fighting singing exercise to make the students comfortable with their singing assignment and also go around the circle and share about ourselves to build trust and friendship with each other.

HOW WILL TODAY BUILD OFF OF MONDAY?

CREATE (Learning in the Language of the Arts): Are they working on the same pieces from Tuesday? How are they incorporating the critique/ feedback? What will they create/make/develop? How will you guide them through that? Time:20 minutes Who will lead? shared

Description of Activity/Activities: Students will finish up their lines and poses and polish them and practice for the teaching artists. Students and teachers will work together with feedback to make the best piece with the student as possible. They will be guided through with encouragement, writing help, and practice to improve performance confidence.

PERFORM (Share/Exhibit): How will the students share what they’ve created? Time:20 minutes Who will lead? shared

The students will run through as many rehearsals of the musical as possible, sharing with the class and the teaching artists what they have individually created.

REFLECT: How will students give and get feedback? How will you teach or model proper “critique etiquette?” What will students do with their feedback? What else do you want students to reflect on? Time:20 (during PERFORM time) Who will lead? shared

As we go through rehearsals students and teaching artists will work with feedback for the students to choose to use or not use in their performance piece. This allows students to reflect on suggestion and what they feel is creatively right for them.

CLOSING: How do you want to end class? What feeling/ideas should they leave with? Time:10 minutes Who will lead? shared

We will end class with praise for the bravery and creativity of the students to allow them to leave with confidence and ready for their performance.
