Hi clubCREATE-ers,
Can you believe this is the third edition of the year? Doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun! It looked like everyone had a blast at the awesome Easter Connection Events that happened around the country.
At our NSW Easter Connection Event at Taronga Zoo, some superstar clubCREATE members told us about their favourite animals. Read all about it on pages 4 and 5. There are also some great zoo jokes in this edition’s Lol-Mania and a fun animal competition. Check it out on pages 10 and 11.
Have you watched Little J & Big Cuz yet? The brand new show on NITV is the first ever animation in Australian history to feature Aboriginal characters and celebrate Aboriginal culture. Meet the main characters Little J and Big Cuz on page 8.
There is a delicious and easy recipe for a fruit pizza on page 12 – such a fun, yum and healthy snack. In the fruit spirit, there’s two fun ’n’ fruity competitions on pages 13 and 14. Remember, you’ve got to be in it to win it so make sure you enter the competitions.
Hope you enjoy this edition!

CLUBCREATE’S EDITORIAL POLICY EDITION 3, 2017clubCREATE Magazine is produced by CREATE Foundation for children and young people in care. This magazine contains information about CREATE programs that create a better life for kids in care and also has articles and artworks by clubCREATE members.
The views expressed by these young people are not
necessarily the views of CREATE Foundation.
It’s really important to us that children and young people in care are safe and protected and we do our utmost to ensure their privacy. For safety reasons state laws don’t allow the faces of kids in care to be published without proper permission, so please understand if
sometimes we can’t show faces in our pictures.
All contributions to be considered for the magazine can be submitted by email: [email protected] or post: Reply Paid 87740, Sydney NSW 2000.
If you do not want to receive newsletter and program
information from CREATE Foundation please email [email protected] or phone CREATE on 02 9267 1999 or 1800 655 105 to have your address removed from our mailing list.

In April, we had a special Easter Connection Event at Taronga Zoo with lots of our NSW clubCREATE members. At the event, five awesome
clubCREATE members shared who their favourite animals were and why. Find out what they had to say.
Lauren (4) Tigers are my favourite because they can bite your face off!
William (5) Zebras are my favourite because of their stripes and I like rainbows.
Did you know Taronga Zoo is home to over
4,000 animals of 350 species?
FAVOURITE

Delilah (5)Elephants are my favourite because their trunks sway from side to side.
Dylan (9)Foxes are my favourite because they are so cute.
Tahlia (5)Giraffes are my favourite because they are cute and have long necks.
Here are some awesome reasons to come along.
1. They are a great way to meet and connect with other clubCREATE members
2. There is lots of cool activities and things to see and do, for example going to the zoo!
3. You get to hang out with the fun CREATE staff!
Check out all of the great events happening in your state or territory in the round up!
Have you been to one of CREATE’s connection Events?

SNAP THAT STIGMA VIDEO
Some clubCREATE members have told CREATE that they feel like they are treated differently because they are in care, which is not okay.
Do you have a story about something great that you’ve achieved? Help CREATE snap that stigma by sharing your positive story over social media, just hashtag #SnapThatStigma or email your story to [email protected]
To try to stop this happening, CREATE have launched a brand new video to Snap that Stigma and to teach people that all young people should be treated the same!
The video features eight awesome Young Consultants sharing their thoughts and experiences growing up in care, and sharing their hopes and dreams for the future, and for young people in care.

SNAP THAT STIGMA VIDEO
CREATE is important to me because they were a vital part of my transitioning out of care. If it wasn’t for CREATE I don’t think I would be half the resilient person I am today. CREATE have taught me how to be resilient, strong and confident and to not be ashamed of my story.
I became a Young Consultant not long after I attended the CREATE conference in Canberra. After attending the conference, it made me revaluate my life and my involvement with CREATE, I left feeling so inspired. So I came back to Darwin, completed all 3 Speak Up programs and became a Young Consultant. I wanted to become a Young Consultant and become involved with CREATE more because I wanted to become an advocate for children living in out-of-home care.
I have achieved quite a lot since becoming a Young Consultant. In 2015, I re-created a project called ‘Show me your Community’ a project I actually did when I was 8 years old through CREATE. 12 different young people from Darwin and Alice Springs all took part of project, which was creating a calendar that showcased their community. I was able to chat to ABC News about my work through CREATE. Every year I chat to media regarding Child Protection Week. I have had the opportunity to sit on panels, speak to media and advocate to other government and non-government organisations about CREATE.
My proudest moment would have to be, being nominated for the 2015 Northern Territory Young Achiever Awards by NT’s former CREATE Coordinator, Michelle Barry for my CREATE work. I won for the category ‘Somerville Community Services’.
WHY CREATE IS IMPORTANT TO ME
Young Consultant Tenneil has been involved
with CREATE since she attended the CREATE 2013
Conference in Canberra. Tenneil shares with
clubCREATE the impact that being involved in CREATE
and being a Young Consultant has made on her life.

NATIONAL SURVEY 2017
In 2013, CREATE asked some children and young people about what they thought about living in out-of-home care. CREATE then used all of the great stuff that young people told us and put it in a huge report!
This report had lots of great information about what was good, okay and bad, and what needs some fixing.
This year we will be doing it again, and CREATE will be speaking to children and young people aged 8 to 25 years old from all over Australia.
A Survey is is an investigation of the opinions or experience of a group of people, based on a series of questions.
Look out for a letter coming your way soon, so you can have your voice included as part of this important research!
