Why now? Why this increased depth of understanding? The answer lies in the shifting role of the Apostles. "You are witnesses of these things." The treasury of truth is no longer Jesus' responsibility alone but our own. Then and there, the Apostles are appointed to proclaim the death and resurrection of Jesus, the forgiveness of sins and the mercy of God. 3º Domingo de Pascua

Welcome to the Parish of

Good shepherd

Good Shepherd Parish Prayer The Lord says: I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to

prosper you, not harm you, plans to bring about the future you hope

for. Then you will call to me. You will come and pray to me, and I

will answer you. You will seek me with all your heart.

And you will find me.

Oración Parroquial El Buen Pastor Pues así habla Yavé: Porque yo sé muy bien lo que haré por ustedes;

Cycles of Faith - 3rd Sunday of Easter "Why do questions arise in your hearts?" After the Resurrection, the Apostles experienced their fair share of incredulity. Jesus had died-John had been there-and now the tomb was empty. What should they believe? Was the Jesus before them truly real? And who was Jesus really? It's no surprise that the Apostles were initially "startled and terrified" to the extent that they "thought that they were seeing a ghost." Jesus has compassion on his confused friends. Once he affirms his non-ghostly identity--"look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself"--Jesus gets down to business. He has risen from the dead, but life would not continue as nor-mal. Throughout Jesus' ministry, he spoke in parables and veiled prophetic language. His followers likely thought much of his words were metaphors, some symbolism for the person and their relation to God. Now Jesus has something else in mind. He "opened their minds to understand the scriptures," making known the connections between his own words and deeds and "everything written about [him] in the law of Moses and in the prophets and psalms." Why now? Why this increased depth of understanding? The answer lies in the shifting role of the Apostles. "You are witnesses of these things." The treasury of truth is no longer Jesus' responsibility alone but our own. Then and there, the Apostles are appointed to proclaim the death and resurrection of Jesus, the forgiveness of sins and the mercy of God. This message is no longer for only the Jewish people but "all the nations." This is our invitation! We have the rich heritage of the Church's teaching. By sacramental grace, God's "peace" is "with [us]." We, too, are sent to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ and the hope that belongs to his call.

Stewardship Reflection

April 15, 2018 - 3rd Sunday of Easter

“Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be

with you.’ But they were startled and frightened…” – LUKE

24:36-37

Throughout the day we have many opportunities to “see the face of Jesus” in others and to “be the face of Jesus” to others. Do we take that opportunity to provide “peace” to those we encounter or are we afraid of what others will think of us and do nothing? Pray for the strength to live a “God-centered” life and not a “self-centered” life.

Advance Care Planning: The time is now "It always seems too early, until it's too late." – That's the sentiment behind National Healthcare Decisions Day. SSM Health (St. Mary's) will offer community members the chance to complete a power of attorney for healthcare (POAHC) form. Why is this important? POAHC forms allow you to make your wishes known. Wisconsin is not a "next of kin" or "family consent" state. This means that if you don't have a POAHC form naming a decision maker, your family may have to pursue legal guardianship through the courts to make medical decisions for you if you become incapacitat-ed. Join us on Monday, April 16 to fill out your POAHC form! Social workers will be available to answer questions, pro-vide information and help with filling out the document. Community members are invited to the following

locations between 9 am and 1 pm.

• SSM Health Dean Medical Group - Madison West, Prairie Room

• SSM Health Dean Medical Group – Madison East Amethyst Room (right off the main entrance)

• SSM Health Dean Medical Group - Sun Prairie, Atrium/lobby 1st floor

• SSM Health Outpatient Center (Neurology Dept., 3rd Floor), consultation room These following dates are from noon to 2 pm

• Tuesday, April 17: Wisconsin Regional Office, Conference Room H

• Wednesday, April 18: Dean Health Plan - 802 Deming Way, Conference Room 101

• Thursday, April 19: Dean Health Plan - 1277 Deming Way, Conference Room G2 If you have further questions about these forms please con-tact Cynthia Schoettler your Faith Community Nurse at Good Shepherd at 268-9930 or 445-8295.

Confirmation Question: How powerful is all-powerful?

Will we ever get to see such force? How knowing in all-

knowing? Will we ever get a grasp of such knowledge? Once upon a time, St. Augustine was contemplating the mystery of the Trinity while strolling along the shore of the Mediterranean Sea in North Africa. He came upon a little boy who had dug a shallow hole in the beach. The boy had a bucket and would run down to the water and fill his buck-et, then would run back to the hole and dump the water in. St. Augustine watched the boy do this repeatedly until curi-osity finally overtook the saint and he asked the boy, “Little boy, what are you doing?” The young lad confidently ex-plained, “I have dug this hole in the ground, and I am going to put the sea into my hole.” Augustine laughed to himself at the boys naivety, and told him, “Little boy, you cannot possi-bly fit the sea into the hole you dug.” And with that the boy turned to the saint and said, “And you cannot possibly un-derstand the Trinity.” And with that the boy disappeared. This story illustrates the impossibility of us humans with our very finite minds trying to understand the infinite that is God. God is all-powerful and all-knowing, but these are not things we can possibly understand (at least not in this life.) We can, however, get hints of what these things mean. When we come across the powerful forces of nature we get a slight idea of God’s omnipotence. When we are studying a new subject and realize for the first time how much we truly do not know, we get a hint at God’s omniscience. But our minds are extremely limited and cannot grasp the vast-ness of God anymore that the little boy’s hole could contain the sea. St. Augustine eventually came to understand that, “If you understand, it is not God.” In the same way we can grow closer to and love God more and more throughout our life, but if we think we can understand God we are sadly mistaken. See your YOUCat § 40-51 for more details.

Passport Symbol: Ghost In the Gospel story this week, the resur-rected Jesus appears to the disciples for the first time. Initially the disciples are terrified and think Jesus is a ghost back to haunt them. (Perhaps they were feel-ing a bit guilty for having abandoned Jesus when He was crucified.) But Jesus was not a ghost for He rose bodily from the dead. Jesus invited the disciples to touch Him as He explained that a ghost does not have flesh and bones. Jesus also showed them his hands and feet. The disciples could not believe their eyes, so just to drive the point home that He was not a ghost, Jesus ate a piece of fish in front of them. The resurrection of Jesus is the corner-stone of our faith, and we are in the midst of celebrating this great mystery of faith. But disciples did not understand how Jesus rose from the dead even though He appeared right in front of them. Is there anything about God that sometimes you have a hard time understanding?

In Loving Memory…

Please remember in your prayers the following individuals who recently

passed away: John DiPiazza, brother of Tom DiPiazza

Marilyn Tiller, cousin of Bonnie Moschkau

Please also remember their families during this time of loss.

¡Aleluya! ©2014 Liturgical PublicationsInc

Pregunta de la semana— Confirmación

¿Qué tan poderoso es el Todopoderoso? ¿Alguna vez

veremos tal fuerza? ¿Cómo saber en todo-conocimiento?

¿Alguna vez captaremos tal conocimiento?
