SECTION D TEXT COMPLETION)

-  In this section, you will be requested to complete a text or passage.

There is one composite picture which is about people, an activity, anincident, an occasion…etc 

-  Study each picture carefully

-  This section tests your understanding and knowledge of grammar and

vocabulary such as verbs, tenses, prepositions, conjunctions, articles,

nouns, pronouns, adjectives or adverbs ( part of speech )

i. Read the whole passage or text to get the rough idea of what it is about

ii. Next, read the text again and try to fill in the blanks as you read it moreclosely. Always read the whole sentence or paragraph where the blank is.

This would help you to make a good choice.iii. Pick the best answer and when doing so, you should:

- check that each option is in the correct part of speech to fill in the blank- check for agreement of subject and verb.

iv. Finally, read through it again to check for fluency and accuracy throughoutthe text.

SECTION E ( READING COMPREHENSION )

1. In this section, you will be requested to read two passagesof linear and non-linear texts. The passages can benarrative or descriptive, in the form of a passage, diary,advertisement, table, notice …etc 

2. This section tests your reading skills and your general

understanding of a particular text

1. Study and understand each text. Read The passage quicklythrough once. Look out for verbs and nouns in the passage

as they can tell you about the content of the passage.2. Look out for the title if it is given in the passage. From the

title you can guess roughly on the passage.3. Next, read the passage again, from paragraph to paragraph

to know what each paragraph is all about. Then, refer tothe questions

4. Read the questions carefully. Look out for words or phrases inthe text that express the same ideas.

5. Questions may include working out the meaning of vocabularyor understanding the relation between words and phrases.

- Is the word formed from a word you know?

- Is the word repeated anywhere else in the text?

- Is there a synonym, antonym or explanation elsewhere inthe text?

7. Sometimes, you need to cross out the options that you haveread until you come to the best answer.

Introduction.

- In this section, you will be requested toconstruct five sentences based on acomposite picture and given words.

- The pictures can relate an activity, anaccident, an occasion, or an event.

General Information about the question/Guidelines: 

. The construct of the question is to describe the situation in the picture.

. Test ability to write grammatically correct sentences.

. Consists of a picture that describe a scene. Ten words are given to give

you an idea of what to write.

Candidates are to write 5 logical/relevant sentences about the picture.

Some Useful Guidelines:

The dos/- Candidates have to study the picture carefully and pay attention to

the following details and ask yourself questions like:

- Who are the people in the picture?

- What is happening?

- Where is the place?

- What can you see in the picture?

- Add words to make your sentence complete / interesting.

- Use the same tense throughout.

- Edit your work to detect spelling or punctuation errors.

- Identify the character(s), circle them and describe the action.

Some Useful guidelines:- Note carefully the differences between the three items.

- Make a choice and give your reasons why you wish to select a particularitem instead of the other.

- Build your sentences which include:- adjectives,- adverb and- the usage of comparison to describe and support your choice.

- You may use conjunctions to show contrast between two sentences ortwo clauses and to emphasise your choice, like.. Besides, in addition… 

- Read your composition after you have completed it. Check for mistakes

in spelling, grammar and punctuation.

- Use variety of sentence pattern and write in paragraph to express yourideas.

- Ideas must be clearly expressed, well-presented and linked

Paper 2 - Section C ( Note Expansion )

-  In this section, candidates are tested on their ability to write

complete sentences in correct English.

-  It requires candidates to write in sequence based on the

series of pictures.

Some Useful Guidelines

.  Make short simple sentences first. Then change them to

compound or complex sentences by using conjunctions.

. Make sure that the sentences are grammatically correct.

. Make the description as interesting as possible by usingadjectives and adverbs.

. Use the same tense throughout.

. Make sure that there is a flow in the story.( Use sequence connectors )

. Read through to check for the accurate use of spelling,grammar and punctuation.

. Write neatly and legibly and use a variety of sentencestructures and wide range of vocabulary to express yourideas. Ideas must be clearly expressed, well-presented andlinked.
