successful business practices including finance, investment,
research and development, quality control, growth, sales, and
returns of investment as well as the legal aspects of business
management and/or entrepreneurship.
The Global Business Academy is more than just a curriculum,
students are taken on field trips and given an opportunity to
visit corporations, accounting firms, nonprofit organizations,
and government agencies in order to gain exposure to the
business world. In addition, recreational activities are
incorporated into the program.

who would like to learn more about becoming leaders in their school and community have the opportunity to get involved with the Future Business Leaders of America.
The Baldwin FBLA Chapter is an extremely active club that truly does a wonderful job in exposing students to real life opportunities outside of the classroom. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday in Room 422.
Nassau County Comptroller’s Entrepreneurial Challenge
On April 6, members of the Global Business Academy and the FBLA Club participated in a highly-competitive business plan competition. Three teams from Baldwin HS competed against 26 other teams from around Nassau County. 2 of the Baldwin teams made it to the final round of 8. Baldwin’s Safe & Stored received an honorable mention for earning 4th place and Baldwin’s Chip In took home 2nd place, receiving a plaque and a check for $1,250. Great job by all that participated!

43 students from Mr. Kelley’s Sports Marketing class and the Global Business Academy attended a field trip on March 16th to Madison Square Garden. The students took the All Access Tour of MSG, seeing how a basketball court becomes a sheet of ice, visiting the Knicks/Liberty and Rangers locker rooms, sat in the luxury suites, took a backstage tour, saw the Theater and went courtside. Executives at MSG, one being an alumni of Mr. Kelley’s Sports Marketing class from 2008, assigns our students a project every year to create a Promotional Brochure. Recycling Campaign at Baldwin HS FBLA club members, Life Skills students and Sani 2 are working on a collaborative project to start a recycling campaign at Baldwin HS. We are starting out with plastic bottles and tin cans, with hopes of expanding the program in the near future.

Jack and Jill Teen Leadership Summit On Saturday, January 9, 2016, 32 students from the Global Business Academy and Future Business Leaders of America club attended the Jack and Jill Teen Leadership Summit at Adelphi University. This was not a field trip where students missed school; Mr. Gregg Kelley, Mrs. Jenn Raleigh and all 32 students took time out of their own busy lives on a Saturday to attend this inspiring event from 8 AM – 6 PM. The theme of this year’s event was “Having the Courage to Conquer”. The day started out with 2 inspirational speakers to get the day going. The first speaker was Madeline Singas, the Nassau County District Attorney. The next speaker was Khalilah Harris, the White House Initiative Deputy Director. Before the breakout sessions students from local schools participated in a panel with Mrs. Harris. Two Baldwin students participated in the panel; Tionna Johnson and Justina Thompson. Students participated in breakout sessions on a wide variety of topics such as; courage, positive relationships with the police, time management, self-branding, interview skills, SAT/ACT, college preparation, networking and much more. Students also attended workshop specific to their career interests. These topics included: medical, business management, business ownership, advertising, computers, technology, government, engineering/math, etc. At the end of the day, raffles were drawn based upon student participation throughout the day. Baldwin had some big winners. Senior, Kathy Vasquez Marcia won a $1,000 scholarship from the United Way. Senior, Brandon Garran won a new HP laptop. Sophomore, Malcolm Bell won tickets to a Brooklyn Nets game.

Summer Opportunities Molloy College Business Boot Camp
Two Baldwin High School students in the Global Business Academy were selected to attend the
Molloy College Business Boot Camp this summer. Ahriana Chance and Jacob Peretson had the
opportunity to expand their knowledge of the business field beyond what they are learning in the
classroom. This program allowed them to network with other high school students, college
ambassadors from Molloy College and business professionals. They joined teams to compete
against one another in various competitions, including an entrepreneurial challenge called “The
Lion’s Den: Molloy Shark Tank”, in which the teams pitched innovative concepts or inventions
to get judges to “invest” in their projects. Other workshops that they participated in were about
careers in the business field as well as proper dining etiquette at business lunches. These students
made Baldwin proud by bring home 1st prize in two of the competitions. Ahriana and her team
took 1st prize in the Best Marketing Plan competition, while Jacob and his team won 1st prize
in the “The Lion’s Den: Molloy Shark Tank” competition. Both students, along with their
families and Business Teacher attended the graduation ceremony at Molloy where they were both
honored with certificates of completion and were recognized for their achievements in the
competitions. Ahriana said “Molloy Business Boot Camp allowed me to open my eyes and see
everything business had to offer. The amount of knowledge I acquired from this program is
irreplaceable.” Jacob said “Molloy Business Boot Camp taught me to be prepared for anything,
and always be aware that a curveball could be around the corner. I would highly recommend this
program to anybody. You will not regret it!” This summer, 3 students were accepted. Ellis
Douglas, Jessica Vincello and Serena Zingale will represent Baldwin this summer.
Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession (COAP) COAP is a unique learning experience developed to expose promising underrepresented minority high school juniors to accounting and business careers. The program features successful minority role models and an introduction to the college campus. Most important, the program is designed to teach students about the breadth and depth of accounting as a career choice. This past summer, the event was held at Adelphi University from June 27th – July 1st. The 6 Baldwin students that participated were Lance Armstrong, Cindy-Ann Jean-Pierre, Carla Magnus, Liana Dominique, Hallie Melo and Tolulope Adebayo. COAP Sessions include an accounting profession overview (panel discussion with a representative from a CPA firm, industry, education, young CPA and a college student). Other topics that are addressed include cost accounting, forensic accounting, basic accounting concepts, technology in business and accounting, internet research, business etiquette, interviewing skills, dressing for success, public speaking, networking and college prep/financial aid.
