Come April, the entire Bharat VARSH hails the advent of Indian Calendar known as Vikrami Samvat2070 starting from 11th April 2013. It is a moment to rejoice because Our New Year is celebrated in differentstates as Gudi Parva, Ugadi, Chetichand etc. Being Bhartiya first, we should feel proud of our Calendarwhich is 57 years old as compared to bZLoh lu~ i.e. 2013. But it is unfortunate that we merrily dance on theeve of New Year i.e. 31st Dec. every year.

Let us organize functions to celebrate Our New Year and tell our progeny the relevance and importanceof this because this New Year is related with the Six Seasons–our rich heritage–we have in our country.

NGB MEETING: A BIRD’S EYE VIEWGuwahati (Assam) : The gateway to the North – East States of India was fortunate enough to have

been entrusted with the uphill task of holding National Governing Board Meeting of the Parishad for 2 daysviz 2nd & 3rd February 2013 after 22 years (as told by Dipok K. Barthakur) which task they completed withthe minutest details (in every context) much to the delight of 185 delegates from all over the country. Theevent, spread over 5 sessions, was organized in the spacious Don – Bosco Institute.

Inaugural Session ‘A’, held in the open auditorium, proved to be a landmark when his Holiness Dr.Pitamber Dev Goswami, Auniati Sattradhikar (Pithadhipati), wearing a white robe, blessed one and all byaddressing the gathering in Sanskrit which was practically understandable.

The Chief Guest, a Gandhian philosopher, Padmashri Natwar Bhai Thakkar said that the mainachievement of India is sustaining of Democracy. Voluntary organisations have a great role to play. Hereferred to Karl Marx and Gandhi and emphasised that let us get rid of violence. Gautam Buddha, LordMahavir and Martin Luther King also advocated about non violence. State power has to be graduallyreduced, he remarked. It was indeed a thought provoking discourse.

Presiding over this session Justice (Retd.) V.S. Kokje said, in no unambiguous terms, that Sanskritstill is considered a living language. Assam state has played a special role since the times of Mahabharat.Let us, therefore, rededicate ourselves with new ideas for the upliftment of the down trodden, a mainproject for which BVP is known for. Minutes of NGB meeting held at Pune on 4th – 5th Feb. 2012 were readand got approved by National Secretary General S.K.Wadhwa. Dr. (Smt.) Shanno Rani (working in the fieldof manufacturing artificial eyes) and Shri Dipok K. Barthakur (on his 75th B’day), Vikas Ratna O.P. Kanungo,Dr. Vasudev Bansal ( Eye Surgeon) and others were felicitated.

In this last session Organisational matters, Audit and A/cs, Corpus Fund and reporting procedurewere discussed in two different groups.

In the 2nd session after introduction of the participants, Dr. K.L.Gupta, National Finance Secretarypresented audited A/cs of Central Share for the year 2011-12 & 2012-13.

After tea break Shri Bhagaiya ji spoke at length about the life and teachings of Swami Vivekanand,the icon of BVP, whose 150th birth anniversary was being celebrated throughout the year by our branches.The address was lucid and highly informative.

Assamees cultural heritage was exhibited on the stage, through Dance & Music in the eveningwhich was admired by one and all.

On 3rd Feb. in the 3rd session minute of the Apex Body Meeting held during 2012-13 were got approved.Convenors of both the groups reported their findings followed by discussion on National Projects.

An Important decision was taken by the house to raise the Central Share from Rs. 150/- to Rs.200/-wef. April 2013. Secondly, celebrations of Swami Vivekananda ji B’day will continue till January2014.

In the concluding session National Vice President Dipok Kumar Barthakur elucidated on the conceptof Sewa, the backbone of any society. National Working President, Prof. S.K.Tiwari summed up the entireproceedings of two days meet. Justice Kokje again reminded the entire BVP fraternity to work in unison forthe overall development of society through our various projects.

After Felicitations and vote of thanks the entire meet ended with the singing of National Anthem.

As a gesture of goodwill all the delegates were given gifts including Souvenir and taken to famousKamakhya Temple for Devi’s Darshan. An unforgettable journey, indeed, to Assam

THE HINDU CONCEPT OF TIMEThe Hindu concept of time is extremely vast and divided into 'Yugas and Mahayugas.' These are

calculated as follows:- One human year represents one day for the divine; 60 divine days make one divineyear. 12000 divine years make one mahayuga.

One mahayuga is divided into 4 yugas, which are called Krita, Treta, Dwapar and Kali. In terms ofhuman years: Kali Yuga = 4,32,000 years; Dwapar Yuga = 8,64,000 year (duo means twice); Treta Yuga =1,296.000 years (tre means thrice); Krita Yuga = 1,728,000 years (4 time kali yuga)

Hence one complete maha yuga is equal to 4,320,000 (4.32 million) human years.The following are considered the Ruling Gods in each of the four yugas:- Krita Yuga - Sri Ranganatha;

human years+1 night of 4.35 billion human years). 30 such days make one month for Brahma (i.e.8.70x30+261 billion human years) and 12 months make one year. Brahma is supposed to live for 100 suchyears which work out to 313.2 trillion human years. This is called param and half of it is param Ardham.

Span of Time- Time or Kaal in Hindu Philosophy is considered in three ways/ranges. The frist iscosmic or epochal time determined in terms of the life span of Brahma. The second range is panchangtime, measured in units of days and months used in determining the seasons etc. The last is horologicaltime for measuring the duration of the day and is determined by lesser unit. Each unit of time in all threeranges is believed to hava two wings and to be made up of a day and night separated by twilight periods.A unit is, therefore, made up of dawn (Usha), twilight (sandhya) and night (raatri). The truti (particle is thesmallest unit of duration. In modern terms it ranges anywhere between one ten thousand millionth of asecond to one Kshana (moment) The Kshana (moment) loosely ranges from 2/45th of a second.

The most important thing for which Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar is popularly known all over India and inthe world is that he was the Chief Architect of the Indian Constitution. His efforts to eradicate social evilswere remarkable and that is why he is called the "messiah' of dalits and downtrodden in India. Dr. Ambedkarwas appointed as the Chairman of the Drafting Committee that was constituted by Constituent Assemblyto draft a Constitution for the independent India. He played a seminal role in the framing of the IndianConstitution. He framed the Fundamental Rights and Duties along with the Directive Principles of theState Policy that are followed and granted to the people of India. The text prepared by Ambedkar providedconstitutional guarantees and protections for a wide range of civil liberties for individual citizens, includingfreedom of religion, the abolition of untouchability and outlawing all forms of discrimination. Ambedkarargued for extensive economic and social rights for women, and also won the Assembly's support forintroducing a system of reservations of jobs for the member of the SC and ST. Dr. Ambedkar also tried toeradicate the socio-economic inequalities that prevailed in the Indian Society from a along time. Ambedkarhas kept the clauses of the Constitution flexible so that amendments could be made as and when situationdemanded. Dr. Ambedkar provided an inspiring preamble ensuring justic, social, economic and political,liberty, equality and fraternity.
