Developmental areas of learning There are six areas of learning in the curriculum for playgroup and kindergarten. Each area includes several aspects of learning.

• Personal, social and emotional development • Communication, language and literacy • Mathematical development • Knowledge and understanding of the world • Physical development • Creative development

This does not mean that all of the children’s learning is divided into areas. Each learning activity or experience may provide a child to develop a number of competencies, skills and concepts across several areas of learning. *For example, children building with blocks may cooperate in carrying the heavy and large blocks,

negotiate the best place to put them, compare weight and dimensions of different blocks and act out an imaginary scene. Therefore, they may be developing

language, mathematical, physical, personal and social competencies through this one activity. Summary In summary, the curriculum supports, fosters, promotes and develops children’s: Personal, social and emotional well-being

Positive attitudes and dispositions toward their own learning

Social skills (cooperate and work harmoniously, listen to each other)

Attention skills and persistence (concentrate on their own play or group tasks)

and support in their development
