Do you have a customer who needs a new motor for their Carrier®,
Bryant®, or Payne® furnace? If the answer is “yes”, how do you
know which one should you choose? Luckily, the decision is simple
– by selecting a Factory Authorized Parts motor, you're getting more
for your money and your time.
Factory Authorized Parts motors provide many benefits for both
you and your customers. By choosing a Factory Authorized Parts
motor, the equipment's original manufacturer's factory warranty is
preserved. Not to mention, these motors also preserve the original
manufacturer's factory efficiency of not only the motor, but the
complete system as well.
In addition to these benefits, engineered sound requirements are
preserved. Factory Authorized Parts motors meet engineering's
rigorous run life design specifications and have passed a 500-hour
salt spray test, which measures the motor's ability to withstand
corrosion. And, Factory Authorized Parts motors are UL and/or
CSA-approved, with internal automatic reset overload protection.
In what other ways are Factory Authorized Parts motors the right
choice? Easy - they are an exact, drop-in replacement on your
customer’s Carrier, Bryant or Payne equipment. Electrical
connections and lead length are exact, as well as shaft length and
mounting characteristics. Factory Authorized Parts motors perform
in an ambient temperature range from -30°F and 145°F.
With so many benefits, it's easy to see why Factory Authorized
Parts motors are the right choice when repairing Carrier, Bryant, or
Payne equipment. And you can easily find them at your local
Totaline sales center, along with many other great Factory
Authorized Parts products.

Q. Hello Jim, I have run into a number of Kickstart brand start kits that
have been installed. We use OEM start kits. The Kickstart kit uses only two
wires to connect. I understand how a real hard start kit works but not how
the Kickstart system works. Can you explain the difference? I hope you will
help us on this. Thanks! ~Ken R., Fallon Heating & Air-Conditioning
A. Ken, This is what our engineers supplied...
"The Kickstart system uses a potential relay combined with a start
capacitor, that they claim distinguishes them from other starting
devices that still use timers, PTC devices and/or circuit boards (thus
the two wires). The patented Kickstart design allows a single potential
relay that replaces the multiple potential relays allowing for
standardization. I can't go into more detail without the actual patent
search. Hope this helps."
Thanks for your question, Ken. Because we used it here, we’ll be sending
you some great FREE merchandise! Would you like a little something for
yourself? Then send in those questions, and if we use one here, you’ll
receive a free gift from us!

When winter weather hits, technicians have two words on their minds –
furnace calls. And when those calls involve Carrier®, Bryant® or Payne®
furnaces, Factory Authorized Parts igniters are the perfect solution.
Hot surface igniters are used to ignite the gas and air mixtures coming out of
the burners in a gas furnace. Because they are continually getting red-hot and
then cooling, the average life expectancy of an igniter is three to five years.
With Factory Authorized Parts igniters, you’ll get maximized performance and
the expected service life, because these igniters are made to exact
specifications for Carrier, Bryant and Payne equipment.
When you choose a Factory Authorized Parts hot surface igniter, you’re
choosing an exact, drop-in replacement that is designed to meet exact
equipment specifications. This ensures optimum system performance, proven
reliability, easy installation and maintenance, and safe system operation.
Using a Factory Authorized Parts igniter maintains UL and/or CSA approvals
on Carrier, Bryant and Payne equipment. These igniters are likely to
experience less breakage during installation because Factory Authorized
Parts igniters are the exact fit, making them easier to install.
So if you’re looking for a replacement igniter for your customer’s Carrier,
Bryant or Payne equipment, look no further than Factory Authorized Parts and
your local Totaline® sales center – your one-stop shop for all things HVAC.

Q: What is the difference between evaporator superheat and system superheat?
Superheat varies within the system depending on where it is being measured. The superheat that the thermal expansion valve is controlling is the evaporatorsuperheat. This is measured at the outlet of the evaporator. The refrigerantgains superheat as it travels through the evaporator, basically starting at 0 asit enters the evaporator and reaching a maximum at the outlet as the refrigeranttravels though the evaporator absorbing heat.
System superheat refers to the superheat entering the suction of thecompressor. Some people confuse system superheat with "return gastemperature". It should be remembered that superheat varies as the saturatedsuction pressure of the refrigerant varies. Return gas temperature is atemperature value measured by a thermometer or other temperature-sensingdevice. It does not vary because of pressure changes.

BUILD MORALE THIS HEATING SEASON
TOOLS Of THE TRADE
Q. Hi, Bob. I'm the owner of a very busy HVAC company in the
Northeast. Since September, we've been very busy with annual
maintenance, and the early snowstorm also garnered quite a few
heating calls as well. My technicians have been very busy, and I can
tell some of them are starting to feel the stress. Is there any way I can
help boost morale? I certainly appreciate everything they do for this
business, but sometimes a pay bonus is not enough. What can I do to
show them that I appreciate their hard work, dedication and teamwork?
When I was in the Army we’d break out the barbeque after a long
forced march/run on Saturday morning or an overnight exercise.
There’s no overtime, bonuses or a lot of excess money lying around in
the infantry so the leaders are pretty creative in their approach to
building morale and teamwork.
You want to do something that is in line with the culture you are
building. You want to do something that involves your employees; don’t
just send them a gift certificate, for example. That won’t support the
team building aspect of what you want to accomplish. You don’t want
to go overboard and spend a lot of money, and you do not want to
create expectations that this will be a regular occurrence… although
you may choose to do something special when you see an opportunity
to build morale and team work.
You should act quickly since you are coming up on the holiday season.
You might do something simple like going somewhere local featuring
special breakfasts or buffets. Otherwise, wait until after the holidays
and set up a dinner with your team and their spouses. There’s nothing
better than honoring your players in front of their spouses, and
recognizing that the spouses often “pay a price” during times of high
overtime and stress... and by creating a special occasion, there might
just be less stress next time around.
Robert Ring firmly believed in the principle that if something was worth
doing, it was worth doing right. From the time he began his career at
Meyer & Depew, to his purchase of the company from Bob Meyer in
1979, to his passing this June at the age of 72, Robert instilled that
belief in his family, his employees and his company as a whole. “We
strive to always do the right thing,” said Bobby Ring, Robert’s son and
owner of Meyer & Depew. “This is something I grew up with.”
Meyer & Depew is a 58-year old HVAC company located in
Kenilworth, N.J. Starting at the company as a sheet metal worker in
1961, Robert Ring purchased Meyer & Depew in 1979. Robert and
Bobby assumed full control of the company in 1981. Today, the
company has grown to include 25 fully trained HVAC technicians and
a fleet of 30 vehicles. “It really does take an entrepreneurial spirit to
grow a company,” Bobby said, adding that his 21-year old son has
also joined Meyer & Depew in the inventory management department.
Bobby said that one thing that helps Meyer & Depew stand out from
the crowd is their “narrow focus”. “We concentrate on residential and
light commercial. That allows us to focus on the exact needs of those
customers, and train our technicians to excel in those areas.” And
training technicians is tantamount to the success of the company,
according to Bobby. “We have the largest number of NATE-certified
technicians in the area,” he said. “We also provide regular training
every fall and spring, to prepare and refresh our technicians for the
heating and cooling seasons.”
Their commitment to employees is evident – Meyer & Depew is a
past winner of the ACHR News’s Best Contractor to Work For award.
Additionally, they have been the recipients of the Carrier President’s
Award four years running. The President’s Award is the highest honor
for Carrier dealers. It presents the opportunity for recipients to serve
as role models and leaders among the dealer community, share “best
practices” and offer peer mentoring to help cultivate excellence across
all Carrier dealerships.
“I’m pleased to offer my congratulations to Meyer & Depew on winning
the 2011 Carrier President’s Award,” said Carrier Northeast Director
of Marketing Mike Dziok. “Bobby Ring and his crew at Meyer & Depew
do an excellent job of representing Carrier and all the brand stands
for. To win the Carrier President’s Award four years in a row is not
only a testament to their loyalty to the Carrier brand, but also a
statement about the kind of company they are,” Mike said.
Bobby said that Carrier is equally responsible for their achievement.
“We always have had lots of support from Carrier,” he said. “They
provides an excellent brand name, and we’ve had great success in
providing our customers with their Infinity system. Our dedication to
providing customers with high-quality equipment and the Carrier
Infinity system complement each other well.”
How does Meyer & Depew as a whole feel about this achievement?
“The secret to our success isn’t really that much of a secret,” Bobby
said. “It’s actually pretty simple – we always set out to do the right
thing, a philosophy my father instilled in this company. We’re
committed to our customers, and we work together. Winning the
Carrier President’s Award is a reflection of the effort put forth by every
single person who works here.”
