Status• Ready to go to context approval with
CAC for Introduction to Competition stream
• Regional Coach / Provincial Coach rolled out after January 1
• Evaluator training and pilots being held this winter
• Level 2 Technical phased out after Jan 1
Features• Coach certification will now be Competency-
based under new NCCP• Coaches will only have to take baseball-
specific training (theory integrated into program – no longer have to take MultiSport A or B)
• Coach training will be context-specific (Community, Competitive or Instructor)
• Follows athlete-centered principles• Formats are based on best adult education
principles
Community Sport Context
• Designed for coaches in community sport / recreational programs
• Approved by CAC as ‘Initiation Coach’ for coaches handling entry levels – ages 5-8 (FUNdamentals) and 9-12 (Learning to Train)
• Coaches take on-line module and attend one 4 hour workshop on Fundamentals to be designated as ‘Trained’ – cost of Workshop now $50
• Rally Cap program for ages 5-8 developed to meet needs of both coaches & kids at this stage
Pathway for Competitive Coach
Entry
• All training starts on-line; self-directed module
• Nccp.baseball.ca• Coaches will be
streamed into either Initiation Coach or to Competitive stream (Regional Coach)
• $37.50
WORKSHOPS WITH OTHER COACHESREGIONAL COACH
•Series of 4 facilitated Workshops – each 4-5 hrs in length - $50 each•If coach has training in these areas in other NCCP courses– may receive credit•Can be taken in any order•Once completes on-line plus these 4 Workshops – designated as Regional Coach – Trained (equivalent to old Full Level 1)•Designed for Introduction to Competition context – for Learning to Train (ages 9-12) and Training to Train (ages 13-16) athletes•Theory integrated into workshops – baseball-specific training
Provincial Coach – the second stage• Coaches wishing to continue in the Introduction to Competition context can take Provincial Coach Workshops• 2 facilitated Workshops – each 4-5 hrs in length - $50 each• Once completes these Workshops and requirements for Regional Coach (on-line plus earlier 4 Workshops) – designated as Provincial Coach – Trained (equivalent to old Level 1 plus Level 2 – including Theory – without Practical)• Designed for more advanced athletes in Intro to Competition context – for Learning to Train (ages 9-12) and Training to Train (ages 13-16) athletes• Theory integrated into workshops – baseball-specific training
Elements to Complete for Certification
• Many programs / coaching situations will only require ‘Trained’ designation
• Under CAC rules – ‘Certification’ status requires ‘evaluation’• Coaches will do a ‘Making Ethical Decisions’ on-line evaluation at
www.coach.ca – no cost – only has to be done once• Coaches will maintain their own ‘Coach Portfolio’ – on-line –
access to on-line part of nccp.baseball.ca site• Evaluation will be done by trained ‘Evaluators’ – practice
evaluation for Regional Coach, game evaluation for Provincial Coach – fee $220 – coaches can wait until all workshops complete before evaluation
• Upon completion – coach certified as either Regional Coach or Provincial Coach – certification valid for 3 years
