Our School
Vision:
“Creating
authentic
relationships for
successful living
within a
Catholic
tradition.”
Dear Parents,
Throughout the nation, this week is Child Protection
Week.
We pray that as a community the safeguarding of each
child’s wellbeing will always be core to our work and
that together we will continually strive to create and
maintain a safe and supportive learning community
within our school.
A Prayer for Stronger Communities, Safer Children
“Gracious God, provide us with a listening
heart, that we see and hear
the voice of each of our children.
We ask you God, to strengthen and guide all
in our Catholic communities.
Grant us the ability and time to listen carefully
when children come to us seeking help.
May our institutions and families respect,
listen and do what is required to help all
children feel safe.”

Every Child has the Right to be Safe and Protected from Abuse and Harm
Keeping Students Safe / Driving Dangerously Recently we were saddened to hear that a Bethany parent / carer driving a Commodore wagon drove
dangerously down Anglia Court and side swiped another car. This is certainly a frightening situation.
More frighteningly is the fact children walking along the footpath could have been killed.
Some carers / families also continue to double park on Thames Boulevard waiting for our gate to open
at 2.30 p.m. This is breaking the law and also a situation where parents / carers are putting lives at risk.
If the front gate is not open families need to park in a side street. We have no tolerance for people
who continue to endanger the lives of others and hope that such people are fined by the authorities
accordingly.

Fun Times Footy Colours Day
Tomorrow – Tuesday, 12th
September is Footy Colours Day. Students are invited to wear casual clothes
on the 12th as well as their favourite footy colours. They could wear a footy jumper, beanie, cap, scarf,
or just dress in casual clothes related to footy colours. No face paint or hair colour though! Dress for
the weather with runners on!
Assembly Our final assembly for the term is scheduled for this Thursday, 14
th September. Thank you to the
students from the Teresa and Earth Hubs who will lead the assembly and showcase the teaching and
learning with us.
After each assembly, students from the Leadership Centre host the cuppa for the parents. These
students serve morning tea treats that they have baked the previous day. Our thanks to Lisa Saunders,
Kim Gomes and Jessica Janakievski, who generously give their time throughout the term and facilitate
the cooking classes for these students. The students love these opportunities and as a school we are
delighted that parents partner with us in this way.
Thank you Lisa. Thank you Kim. Thank you Jessica.
Fantastic Sporting Result On Monday, 48 students represented Bethany at the Truganina District Athletics Carnival. They braved
the wind and the cold to compete in a variety of events including jumping, throwing, sprinting and long
distance running. The children demonstrated great resilience and put in 100% effort into their events.
A big thank you to the teachers and parents who braved the cold to cheer on the children and a special
thanks to Zac who ran the discus event all day and was lucky not to of been blown over.
The weekly training at school definitely paid off as over the day we slowly earned enough points to
move from 3rd
to 2nd
and then finally finishing in 1st place.
We wish the 31 Bethany children all the best on Wednesday, 13th
September when they represent
Truganina District at the Wyndham District Athletics Carnival. They will be competing against
children from many schools throughout Wyndham, Hobsons Bay and Western Ranges.
Good luck to Kai Goncalves, Jesse Jewell, Christian Polyzoudis, Mach Mamour, Bonnie Miller,
Cameron Arabit, Xari Morrow, Kristian Vranek, Charli Hocking, Jett Modola, Piper Torney, Luke
Young, Logan Morris, Alanah Calubaquib, Rory Taylor, Alieu Lukullay, Matthew Koropeckyj, Elise
Galea, Erin Dillon, Mikayla Gatt, Prescillia Budiongo, Talahni Wanigasekera, Sanhae David, Christo

Leadership Centre Art Hub Students from Year 5/6 are about to begin work on creating a mosaic for the outside of this hub. We
look forward to enjoying their creativity and artistic talent and know that the finished piece will be
spectacular.
To support this work we need an abundance of tiles. If families have spare tiles which you believe
would be suitable for our mosaic elective we would be very grateful. Our thanks to Vikki Edwards for
her donation.

Parent Partnership and Visual Arts Each Friday, the students in the Bridging Centre engage in Art Workshops. The focus of these
workshops is to create a visual presentation to further enhance our school vegetable garden. The work
being created is amazing and I have no doubt that it will delight the community. Our thanks to Holly
Drake-Brockman and Maria Parker (two parents in the school) who have regularly supported Genevieve
Murray (Visual Arts teacher) and the students for providing their time and talent to the project.
Generous Parent Support Teaching Reading to Year One Students Teaching a child to read is one of the greatest gifts we can give to any child. We are deeply grateful to
the following parents and grandparents who participate in our Year One Reading Program: Lea Arida,
Carol McDonald, Jackie Carabott, Heather Moreira, Trudy Chitty, Rachel Froude, Narelle Taylor, Bec
O’Brien, Nicole Rollason, Christine Bilston, Nat Broomfield, Mei-Lee Dereczenik, Jade Miles and
Kathryn Lopez.
Sub Committee Update The Sub-Committee focus now moves to the final school term and of course this means that our
Fundraising Group will be encouraging us to support the Parish Fair.
The Service Group will focus their energy on providing the community a day and night time second
hand uniform sale and support a similar sale at the 2018 Prep Information night.
The Hospitality Group will continue to support our cuppas after assembly and host two sessions for
families who will be joining us for the first time in 2018.
Early next term we will also be calling for nominations from anyone who may wish to join this group in
2018. Participation in this school parent circle is open to anyone interested. Specific details will be
circulated with the first newsletter in Term 4.
Sub Committee Survey
Thanks to Trudy Chitty in partnership with the school, there will also be an opportunity for the
community to offer feedback and input re the work of the Sub-Committee. A survey inviting your
comment will be sent home in Week 1, Term 4.
Parish Fair The Parish Fair is an annual event held in November on the grounds of St. Andrew’s School. The
proceeds from the fair benefit all the organisations within the Parish. Consequently in Term 4, schools
are asked to focus their fundraising efforts solely on the Fair.
This year’s fair is scheduled for Saturday, 18th
November, 10.00 a.m. – 8.00 p.m.
Bethany’s Contribution to the Fair is Generous
1. We actively support the car raffle.
2. We are responsible for Bethany House.
3. We are responsible for the Afternoon Tea stall.
4. We are responsible for the Christmas Cake raffle.
5. Our Boite choir performs at the Fair.
6. We participate on the day of the Fair selling, helping and above all by attending.

Parish Fair Car Raffle
This week we invite each family to accept a raffle book and we have our fingers crossed that this year’s
winner of the car might come from BETHANY!
The raffle books sent through the school need to be returned to the school by the first day of school
next term – Monday, 9th
October.
Our thanks in anticipation of your generous support of this raffle. All contributions will be greatly
appreciated. We would be delighted if families could work hard to sell the entire book, but if you are
only able to sell one or two tickets we acknowledge that and are grateful.
Be in it to win it!!!
Bethany House – Prior Notice
Early next term, we will also be inviting families to assist us in creating Bethany House 2018.
In the past, families have been extremely generous in donating items for this stall. This is always a
most popular stall at the fair and totally organised by the Bethany School Community. Stock for this
stall is currently being sought.
Each family is asked to donate a household item. The ideas are endless: tea towels, mirrors, cutlery,
trays, coasters, glasses . . . any item that can be found in a house!!! Items need to be new and non-
electrical.
Between now and early November we ask each family to donate at least one item for this stall. Simply
send your donation to the school. It would also assist greatly if you could indicate an appropriate
selling price for your donation.
Bethany House is specifically organised by the members of our Fundraising Sub-Committee. I know
that the community will really support this work and I once again salute your generosity.
Donations for Bethany House due between now and the beginning of November.
End of Term Clean Up End of term is fast approaching and as is our custom we will be holding an end of term working
bee. Consequently we are calling for volunteers.
We cannot stress enough just how important family support is at these working bees and how
grateful we are when families are able to assist.
It is always easy to leave these calls for help to others, however where possible we ask that you
generously donate 30 – 40 minutes of your time to ensure that our facility is left in spotless
condition.
We need about 60 volunteers to vacuum, wipe down tables and to give all areas an extra clean.
You will work alongside teachers and other parents. The parents who offer to assist at the 3.15
p.m. time are offered supervision for school aged children.
As this working bee will occur out of school time, you do not need a Working with Children
Check.

If you can assist, please indicate on the slip below.

School Fees 2018 The financial expectation for 2018 is as follows:
Family Fee: $1,460.00 (per family)
Student Fee: $345.00 (per student)
To assist in the organisation for 2018 we urgently need each family to tell us how they wish to manage
their school fee payment in 2018.
Thank you to the many families who have already returned this information, however there are still over
180 responses not submitted!!!
Please assist our administration personnel and return this information to us tomorrow – Tuesday, 12th
September. Information required is attached to this newsletter.
We are not asking for payment only information as to how you intend to pay in the future.
Prior Notice School Uniform
The official change from Winter to Summer uniform will be Monday, 23rd October. A day time and
night time second hand uniform sale will be organised for early term 4 and in time for parents to
purchase items prior to the official change date for the transition from Winter to Summer expectation.
Watch future newsletters for specific details.
End of Term
School concludes for all students at 12.30 p.m. on Friday, 22nd September.
The half day is an official school expectation and should a child not be at school on the 22nd, it is most
important that parents write a note explaining the reason for the absence.
All students are expected to attend school on the morning of September 22nd other than if they are
unwell or that a parent has provided the school with a written explanation regarding the absence. As
always parents can provide this note via the template attached to this mini news.
Parish News Father Frank wishes the community to know that he will retire as Parish Priest of St. Andrew’s at the
end of January 2018. As a community we assure Father Frank of our ongoing support as he continues
to lead the Parish of St. Andrew’s throughout the coming months. As he begins a transition from
managing a large Parish to being in a position to concentrate more fully on pastoral needs within the
church, we continue to pray God’s blessing upon him.
