Collaboration and Application At the heart of the work students do at the Governor’s School @ Innovation Park is collaboration among peers to investigate problems.

STEM research done in isolation isn’t nearly as productive as that done with peers across disciplines to share understandings and data.

Collaboration and Application Students regularly identify community or worldwide problems for which they would like to identify potential solutions for.

Collaboration with outside organizations like the Prince William County Police and Fire Departments or scientists from companies around Innovation Park like Lockheed Martin assist our students in understanding the more holistic ramifications of the problems they are investigating.

According to the World Health Organization, in just the Africa Region alone, there were just below three million deaths due to infectious and parasitic diseases in 2015 such as Hepatitis, Measles, Tetanus, etc. Many of these deaths are preventable with correct vaccinations

Perhaps through a widespread availability of vaccinations, we could be able to save millions of people’s lives from disease

What is the Smart Syringe?

● Fully electronic autonomous syringe○ Intramuscular

● Injects medication/vaccine into subject● Senses physical pressure applied to apparatus● Included safety precautions:

○ Speaker triggers when syringe is active○ Strong casing and cap to prevent misuse and injury ○ Currently single use to prevent misuse and abuse

■ Looking to improve to infinite uses while maintaining safety
