Learning Objectives

� Describe the complex nature of the wounds that are encountered when caring for children who are injured in a combat zone.

� Discuss the management of complex pediatric trauma in austere environments with respect to multicavity injury, limited resources and cultural differences.

� Describe the use of telemedicine and how it can enhance the current trauma transfer protocols and improve patient care during transfer to another facility.

� Recognize the common patterns of traumatic lawnmower injuries in the pediatric population.

� Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of focused assessment with sonography in trauma in the pediatric setting.

� Describe an algorithmic approach to cervical spine imaging in pediatrics.
