This year we are moving away from our traditional indoor dinner & dance to a more “Covid Friendly”outdoor event, free to the public. Our Greenville Farmers Market has a new Master Chef owned italianrestaurant, Fatto a Mano Pizzeria, that will be serving hand made, fresh ingredients gourmet pizzas, pastas,steak, seafood and salads with beer and wine pairing choices. The restaurant is located on the western endof our Farmers Market Shed. Sponsor Tables will be spaced apart under the outdoor covered shed next tothe Market parking area. We will be shutting down some, not all, of the Market Parking Area to allow forour Band Stage to be brought close to the restaurant and shed. “Bob Wills’ Texas Playboys with JasonRoberts” will present a different set than their Saturday night ticketed show so be sure to buy a ticket to Ben& Noel Haggard and BWTP concert Saturday night at the GMA. For fans of his late, legendary father, country music great Merle Haggard, his youngest son Ben is no Stranger– in fact, he’s been the lead guitarist in Hag’s longtime band of the same name for the past eight years, sincehe was 15 years old, fitting in easily with veterans like musical director Norm Hamlet and Scott Joss. Ben wasa regular on Merle Haggard’s recordings, took the stage with him and the Highwaymen (Willie Nelson andKris Kristofferson) as well as Blake Shelton for a memorable performance at the 2014 Grammys and for the2012 “All for the Hall” show besides two of his idols, Vince Gill and Keith Urban.

Growing up the son of a man who has defined country music's possibilities, Noel Haggard has enough lifeexperiences to more than completely inhabit the things he sings about...and does it with the same naturalphrasing and richly sonorous baritone that one would expect from someone with such a loaded last name.

When Texas Playboys front man Jason Roberts steps onto a stage with his fiddle and utters his first “AH-ha”of the evening, western-swing fans know they're seeing and hearing nothing less than the living embodimentof a tradition that stretches all the way back to 1933.

Today, the Bob Wills sound continues, as big and bright and brassy as ever. The newest Texas Playboysaggregation is led by two-time Grammy winner Roberts, hand-picked by both the Wills estate and LeonRausch, whose nearly two decades in the famed western-swing band Asleep at the Wheel includes an eight-year stint actually playing Bob Wills in the Wheel's nationally touring musical-theatre production, A RIDEWITH BOB. And, like Bob's original band, this group of Playboys includes some of the best swing musiciansboth Oklahoma and Texas have to offer.

His big band is now called Dave Alexander and His Big Texas Swing Band. The older guys went on, hesaid, and it was up to the musicians of his own generation that include people like Jason Roberts tocarry the baton.

Alexander’s band features a full horn section, including 2 trumpets, 2 trombones and a sax; and arhythm section: fiddle, piano, bass, drums, steel and him playing guitar and trumpet and singing. Inaddition to surprises, they will also play some of the original “oldie goldies. I always play ‘Deep in theHeart of Texas every year, and we will also do an armed forces tribute to our veterans.” Alexanderhas played with the Texas Playboys, Willie Nelson, Asleep at the Wheel and numerous otherperformers and has won a number of major music awards.

Redd Volkaert was a successor to Roy Nichols in Merle Haggard's backing band, and is "among thecountry’s top Telecaster guitar slingers. Volkaert won a 2009 Grammy for Best Country InstrumentalPerformance.

While best known as a Fender Telecaster player, with a personal collection that includes a 1953Fender Telecaster, a 1951 Fender Nocaster, a 1958 Fender Esquire and a 1950s-style Hahn Telecaster.Volkaert has lent his name to guitars made by other companies, including Asher.

Redd's band has been playing Saturdays, and Redd plays with Heybale!, the Sunday night houseband, at The Continental Club in Austin, Texas.
