President’s Message

Dear BAGC Members,

We celebrated our first event of the year, Saraswati Puja, with great suc-cess. Executive Committee’s hard work, dedication, and concern for

timeliness along with the help from the volunteers, made it a very enjoyable day for everyone. We re-ceived lots of good feedback from the community on how great the Puja and the cultural programs were completed on time and how we elevated the Bengali culture and heritage.

Now that the winter is behind us and the spring is here, it is time to switch gear for our next event—“Banga Sanskriti Dibas”. This event will be cele-brated on May 15th at Streamwood High School. Banga Sanskriti Dibas has a special significance for us as it combines the celebration of Bengali New Year (Nababarsho) and remembrance of two great Bengali poets—Kabiguru Rabindranath Thakur and Kazi Nazrul Islam. Next year, it will be the 150th birthday of Rabindranath. We will start the Banga Sanskriti Dibas with a special tribute to him.

The Executive Committee is proud to announce the EXCITING cultural programs for the Banga Sanskriti Dibas with three world class guest artists from India: Sri Snehashis Mozumder, a classical Mandolin player; Sri Subrata Bhattacharya, a classical Tabla player; and Smt. Koyel Mukherjee, a melodious singer of modern Bengali songs. Please see the detail information on this issue of Samaj Sangbad about them. This will be an unforgettable evening of Ben-gali culture.

See you all on Banga Sanskriti Dibas!

Sincerely, — Dipak Ghosh

William Busch (1938-2010), the husband of Sabita Busch who is a long time member of BAGC, died on April 9, 2010, in his Hyde Park home. His funeral service was held on April 17, 2010, at the First Uni-tarian Church in Hyde Park and was attended by his family, friends, many Hyde Park residents and BAGC members. Mr. Busch was known in his wide circle of friends for his quiet nature. He was always helpful to his friends, neighbors and those that sought his help. Mr. Busch was a very kind hearted person and a per-fect gentleman. He is survived by his wife, their only son (Rana) and a granddaughter. We sincerely hope that his soul finds the ultimate peace. We offer our thoughts, prayer and deepest condolences to his family.
