PRODUCTION TEAM JOB DESCRIPTIONS BENDIGO THEATRE COMPANY INCORPORATED

JOB DESCRIPTION:Stage Manager

• The Stage Manager will support the Director.

• Will be familiar with and prepare a prompt copy of the script.

• Attend production meetings.

• Ensure that no alcohol is on the premises during rehearsals and performances.

• Will recognise the position of Assistant Director and liaise with Director and the Assistant.

• To liaise with Production Manager on all production issues.

• To oversee the collection of props, set construction, being responsible for the production being ready for performance.

• To liaise with properties personal to gather appropriate furniture, props etc. so that the cast become familiar with their working environment.

• Be responsible for the welfare of all cast, crew and production team members in liaison with the Production Manager

• Maintain a record of cast names, addresses and phone numbers and take the role at rehearsals and performances and where necessary, contact those who do not attend.

• Where necessary arrange for sound tapes as soon as possible where necessary.

• Carefully time each scene in the rehearsal and block each move in the prompt copy in pencil and compare notes with the Assistant Director.

• To take charge of technical and dress rehearsals and to call the show for each performance.

• Make a full check of all sound equipment, lighting equipment, special effects, props etc... prior to the technical rehearsal, dress rehearsal and each performance.

• To organise bump in and out in relation to vehicles needed, personnel and times and report to Production Manage

• Compile a full and comprehensive check list of all items to be bumped in and out.

• Oversee bump in and out and make sure the theatre is left to the standard required by the vendor and the company

• Prepare a full report for the Company at the end of the production.

JOB DESCRIPTION:Assistant Stage Manager

• The Assistant Stage Manager will assist the Stage Manager and be very familiar with the script and communicate any problems to the Stage Manager.

• Obtain the ground plan from the Stage Manager and make up a rehearsal area.

• Check dressing rooms are clean before and after rehearsals and performances.

• Ensure that all cast are present when required at rehearsal.

• Ensure that no alcohol is on the premises during rehearsals and performances.

JOB DESCRIPTION:Director

• Will be appointed on the proviso a clear and precise written concept, including design and timeline of the show be received and passed by the committee. The production team and the cast will do all within their power to help realise that vision.

• To convey his/her vision clearly to the production team so that a cohesive whole may be obtained.

• Has the responsibility to maintain a good working relationship with the production team, the cast and crew and to, at all times set a professional standard of conduct and behaviour.

• Must work within the pre-arranged budget which will be under control of the Treasurer and Production Manager. Budget must not be exceeded without the permission of the Production Manager and the Treasurer who will raise the matter with the committee of management.

• Has the responsibility to attend all rehearsals unless otherwise agreed by the Producers.

• Must be prepared to conduct all rehearsals in an organised and thoughtful manner, starting and ending on time.

• To work in close harmony with the Production Manager, Musical Director, Choreographer, Rehearsal Pianist and be prepared to take responsibility for the production.

• To recognise the position of the Assistant Director (if appointed) to support the Director.

• Has the responsibility to attend regular production meetings as arranged by the Production Manager.

• To attend all technical and dress rehearsals and attend the Opening Night

• Ensure that no alcohol is on the premises during rehearsals and performances.

• Is answerable to the Producers

• The Assistant Director has the right to expect the full cooperation from the Director and to work as a team while at all times acknowledging that the Director has the final say in all matters.

• To support and assist the Director at all times and never change any part of the Production.

• To attend all rehearsals, take production notes, blocking and comments in a book prepared by the Assistant to the Director.

• To attend all technical and dress rehearsals and attend opening night.

• Ensure that no alcohol is on the premises during rehearsals and performances.

• To document any problems and prepare a written report to the company at the end of the season.

JOB DESCRIPTION:Set Designer

• The Set Designer will prepare a set design after discussion with the Director and after frequent reading of the script.

• To peruse set resources at BTC shed and utilise suitable materials before purchasing.

• Will keep the vision of the Director foremost in mind.

• To price the design to the last detail and submit all costing for approval by the producers and will not modify any part of the budget without approval of Production Manager and committee.

• Must work within the pre-arranged budget which will be under control of the Treasurer and Production Manager. Budget must not be exceeded without the permission of the Treasurer.

• To prepare detailed drawings and model of the set, giving full and concise instructions as to materials, sizes, colours and textures in consultation with the Director.

• Must be prepared to creatively re-design any part of the concept that does not meet budget requirements.

• To submit a full and comprehensive report to the company at the end of the production.

JOB DESCRIPTION:Set Construction Co-ordinator

• To arrange for a team of people who will strictly follow the design prepared by the Set Designer including builders, painters, artists (where necessary), welders (where necessary), general hands and any other personnel required to complete the set on time and on budget.

• To peruse set resources at BTC shed and utilise suitable materials before purchasing.

• To work closely with the designer.

• Must work within the pre-arranged budget which will be under control of the Treasurer and Production Manager. Budget must not be exceeded without the permission of the Treasurer.

• To strictly adhere to Sets budgetary limits as set in the Production budget.

• Will not make any changes to the design without the permission of the designer.

• To attend production team meetings where required to report on the progress of the set including any difficulties experienced.

• To liaise with the Stage Manager, Set Designer, Production Manager and the Director where necessary.

• To submit a report to the Company as to the state of tools and materials that will need to be procured, repaired or stored in readiness for the following production.

• The costume designer will prepare a full and detailed costume book showing material samples, colours, designs and textures after full consultation with the Director and other designers.

• Must work within the pre-arranged budget which will be under control of the Treasurer and Production Manager. Budget must not be exceeded without the permission of the Treasurer.

• Must be prepared to creatively re-design any part of the concept that does not meet budget requirements.

• To strictly adhere to costume budgetary limits as set in the Production budget.

• To work closely with Director, Lighting Designer and make-up Designer and attend production meetings where necessary.

• To prepare a full list of accessories (wigs, belts, hats, jewellery, canes, shoes, etc…)

• To attend all technical and dress rehearsals and opening night.

• To submit a full and comprehensive report at the end of the production.

• To arrange for a team of people who will strictly follow the design prepared by the Costume Designer, general hands and any other personnel required to complete the costumes on time and on budget.

• To arrange and supervise a group of machinists and sewers to make the costume required.

• To peruse costume resources at BTC shed and utilise suitable materials before purchasing.

• To work closely with the designer.

• Must work within the pre-arranged budget which will be under control of the Treasurer and Production Manager. Budget must not be exceeded without the permission of the Treasurer.

• To strictly adhere to Costume budgetary limits as set in the Production budget.

• To price the design to the last detail and submit all costings for approval by the producers and will not modify and part of the budget without approval.

• Will not make any changes to the costumes without the permission of the designer.

• To attend production team meetings where required to report on the progress of the costumes including any difficulties experienced.

• To liaise with the Production Manager, Director, Lighting Designer, Stage Manager, Set Designer, and make-up and the where necessary.

• To attend production meetings where necessary.

• To organise a suitable time for costume fitting outside of rehearsal time.

• To meet deadline and schedules for costume parade for Director’s approval.

• To compile a costume change list for backstage and inform the Stage Manager.

• To attend all technical and dress rehearsals and opening night.

• To be responsible for arranging dressers for all performances.

• To ensure the safe and immediate return of all costumes belonging to the Company to the Shed under the supervision of the company’s costume manager.

• To rig the lighting for the technical rehearsal and be responsible for that rehearsal. (where applicable)

• Will prepare a detailed, innovative publicity plan clearly indicating method and deadlines and requirements to meet those deadlines.

• Will create a team of publicists (where applicable) to share the load.

• To arrange regular meetings with the publicity team to maintain control over the effectiveness of the publicity plan.

• To personally attend or be represented at production meetings where necessary and requested by the committee of management.

• To liaise with all sections of the media.
