• Metro’s are one of most affordable, environment friendly, safe
and a comfortable mass rapid transit system.
• Metro cars have state-of-the art technology with high reliability,
availability and maintainability.
• Metro car interiors are world class and are designed for a
pleasant ambiance and also ensuring, Passenger Comfort Passenger Safety and Passenger Security
METRO CARS
The main features which effect passenger comfort are discussed briefly:
2.1 Air conditioning system (HVAC)• The No.1. feature which provides passenger comfort is the HVAC
system and how effective the air conditioning is.• HVAC system are designed to maintain 25°C and 60% RH • Load-weigh signals taken for optimum control• During Design stage CFD analysis are carried out• Air velocities & temperature distribution-EN14750.• Air quality is maintained as per ASHRAE standards
2. PASSENGER COMFORT
2.2 Noise & Vibration levelsControl of noise and vibration is one of the critical issues effecting passenger
comfort. The components that dominantly contributes noise when the :
Vehicle in stationary condition•HVAC (Heating, Ventilation & Air conditioning system)
• Main transformer• Air compressor
Vehicle In Running Condition • Wheel rail interactions• Track irregularities• Traction motors• Gear boxes• Braking
2. PASSENGER COMFORT
2.2 Noise & Vibration levelsSince all noise sources are located outside carbody, the passenger comfort greatly depends effectiveness of noise insulation provided
Some of Noise mitigating features provided are• Floating floor• Gangway design – (2 piece construction with double skin bellows)• Door leaf construction• Interior FRP – Semi sandwiched Nomex Honey comb panels• Proper sealing of Doors• Windows – Insulated Glass units• Insulation
2. PASSENGER COMFORT
2.3 Amenities provided• HVAC•Seats•Grab-poles and rails•Passenger information system•Public address system•Passenger alarm devices•Gangways•Dedicated Wheelchair space •Mobile chargers etc.
2. PASSENGER COMFORT
2.4 Ergonomics• All amenities are designed such that 95th percentile of Indian population
can access the Interior facility – like grabpoles, Grab rails & Straphanger without any inconvenience
2. PASSENGER COMFORT
2.5 LED Lighting
• LED’s are the most efficient lighting system• Long life and low power consumption.• Provides illumination of 300lux at a height of 1.0m above floor level.• Auto dimming feature for optimum power consumption• Fire retardant polycarbonate diffusers are used to avoid glare• Meets IEC 61373 for shock and vibration.• Fittings meet IP52 /54norms
2. PASSENGER COMFORT
3.1 Interior Passive Safety Design
The interiors are designed considering interior passive safety. The objectives of this design is to minimize injury to passengers in case of collision or derailment.• By following this design, it also help us to reduces the level of minor
injury through trips, slips and falls, that can result from unexpected vehicle movements such as emergency braking or track irregularities
• Features: All mounting hardware's are concealed or flush with surface All edges have liberal radius Longitudinal seats provides better containment of passengers,
reducing the velocity of secondary impact No projection of floor No Openings to avoid entrapment of fingers or foot Anti skid floorings
3. PASSENGER SAFETY
3.2 Passenger Saloon Door System
• Automatic door systems are provided which allows only platforms side doors to be opened ensuring passengers safety
• Traction will not be initiated until all doors are closed and proven
• During door closing if any obstruction is sensed, the door moves back immediately permitting clearing of obstruction
• Door indication lamps/chimes are provided to caution the passengers during door operation
3. PASSENGER SAFETY
3.3 Fire Safety • Metro cars are designed for Fire safety with a system approach• Material selection • Fire detection• Suppression systems • Means of evacuation to a safe place and time taken • All non-metallic materials meet flammability, toxicity and smoke
emission limits (FST) as per BS 6853 Cat 1a/1b or equivalent• Floating floor has been designed to provide a fire barrier a minimum of
30 minutes duration• Total Fire heat Load not to exceed 28000 MJ• Fire detection in Cab• Fire suppression by Fire extinguisher
3. PASSENGER SAFETY
3.4 Emergency evacuation
3.4 (a). End evacuation - Cab front emergency door
3. PASSENGER SAFETY
3.4 (b). Side evacuation - Passenger saloon doors.

3. PASSENGER SAFETY
4.1 SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM CCTV cameras are used to monitor the safety of passengers. Provides essential footage for post incident investigations and also
acts as a crime deterrent
