BELMONT SCHOOL NEWS 22 nd June 2018 Friends Of Belmont Belmont Family Funday – A F@B-ulous Success! Thank you so much to everyone who bought raffle tickets or came along to our Funday last Saturday. It was great fun, despite the grey skies, and we raised a tremendous £2,400 for projects in both the Senior and Junior areas of our school. It was a pleasure to see so many happy faces – from lobbing loo rolls to 160 teddies, more slime than I have ever imagined and Mr Day’s marvellous magic show, the event was friendly, fun and accessible to all. There are so many people who contributed to the event – the F@B Team of Sue N, Jane, Jan, Sarah, Carolyn, Sue H, Lisa, Laura and Sophie; Mr Day and the amazing Belmont staff who ran stalls and brought their families along too; and the F@B families for all their help, especially Charlotte Jones and Amber and Mrs Day for being slime-tastic! Huge thanks as well to the many businesses and organisations who donated prizes, money and time to the Funday. Our raffle prizes were valued at over £1,500 and we received a £200 donation from Cheltenham Lions Club, as well as 7 volunteers from Cheltenham Rotary without whom we could not have parked cars or flipped burgers. The Funday was more than just a money raising exercise – it was a great opportunity to give all our special children an amazing day of accessible, confidence building fun in a safe, friendly environment. We would love to know what you thought of the event too. What did you enjoy? What would you change for next year? How could we make the event even more fun for your family? Please let us know on [email protected] or drop in a note to Reception, marked for Sue Newport, F@B. Making Sports Day a little more F@B – we’ll be on hand on Friday 6 July sharing ice creams with all the participants – do come up to anyone in a F@B T-shirt if you’d like to find out more about F@B and all we do with school, we’d love to meet you!

Play Farm Classes 1&2 Class 1 and 2 had a lovely time at the Play farm. We had the place to ourselves and the children enjoyed having free play and exploring all levels of the soft play. Our behaviour and attitude was amazing and our teachers glowed with pride at the way we played with our friends and explored with such confidence.

Our smiles were big and the highlights for Class 1 were: Our amazing behaviour at all times The bravery some of us showed going on the bus even though we were scared

of it “Racing our friends and teachers down the slides,” Playing with our teachers and tiring them out! Climbing, running and having total freedom Stopping when we were asked without any protests Having great manners on the bus

We loved every minute and can’t wait to go back! Class 2 really enjoyed the slide and running around away from Mrs Hall and Mrs Bennett in a game of chase. Pupil’s behaviour was exceptional and they represented Belmont perfectly.

It was lovely to see our children playing with each other and encouraging each other on the tricky obstacles. A quote on the bus on the way back was that was 'totally terrific!' It was a fantastic trip and we cannot wait to go back and visit again soon.

If you are interested the play farm host Special Needs sessions every other week from 9am and 10am with discounted prices. RDA

On the 15th June we had our first non-uniform day to raise money and food for the animals at the Ani-mal Shelter in Cheltenham. This is one of the organisations that have been working with us during our Enrichment sessions so we are so excited to be visiting them soon to hand over these wonderful dona-tions and a cheque for £60!!! Thank you to all that brought in food for cats and dogs and for donating money on the day. This will all go towards a very worthwhile cause. The children also enjoyed having their faces painted thanks to Miss Kear; Mrs Farrer-Grover and a volunteer Aunty Mel. It was such a wonderful day!

Science Festival

This year it was possible for five classes to go to the Science Festival at the Town Hall in Cheltenham. On Tuesday 5th June Classes 4, 5 and 6 went to a work shop called Anatomy Art where they drew the organs of the body on T shirts. After that they went to the Maker Shack where there were lots of interactive experiments to do, hands-on activities and exciting things to explore and make.

On Thursday 7th June it was the turn of Classes 7 and 8. We took part in a very energetic workshop called Kinetic Moves, where we investigated different sorts of energy and combined them in games and dances and drama. The Maker Shack was very popular with these groups too.

Wellbeing Week

Last week the whole school took part in ‘Wellbeing week’. During this time pupils focused on staying healthy and maintaining a positive mind-set. Several activities were on offer including: musical active workout, making relaxation and find it bottles, brain food smoothie making, creation of a relaxation book, emotion expressed through music and participation in the big art project on ‘Growth mind-set’ All pupils made a great effort to understand more about themselves and what strategies they can use to stay healthy in body and mind.
