What Are Essential Oils?Certain plants contain complex and powerful substances known as essential oils. These have been called “the lifeblood of the plant”. They are a super concentrated liquid that comes from roots, leaves and flowers of very fragrant plants. For example it can take thousands of flower petals to create the drops that are in a single bottle of our essential oil blends. And adding a single drop of peppermint oil to a glass of water has approximately the same concentration as 20 bags of peppermint tea. Because each essential oil has a different fragrance and nutritional profile, they offer a wide range of emotional and physical remedies.

The History of Essential Oils The use of extracted oils were recorded in both ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics and Chinese manuscripts for their healing benefits. The Romans indulged in aromatherapy from oils in the temples as well as bathing and massage. The Bible speaks of essential oils in both the Old and New Testaments. In Athens, in 200 B.C. Hippocrates fumigated an entire Greek city with aromatic essence to prevent disease. Italy is renowned for their development of essential oils and aromatherapy. And the ancient Mediterranean peoples value Frankincense as high as gold.

All About Essential Oils

How Do Essential Oils Work?Essential oils are unlike any other natural remedy. Because they can have a pleasant aroma they can be gentle and enjoyable to use. They have a light vapor constitution which help them absorb into the cells quickly, allowing them to penetrate the brain within seconds. Their “aromas” can instantly uplift an emotion or mood! And nutritionally they contain virtually all of the plants healing nutrients, oxygenating molecules, amino acid precursors, trace minerals, enzymes, vitamins, and hormones in a powerfully concentrated form - up to 50 to 70 times more potent than the original herb or plant.

Carrier Oils Some essential oils can create irritations if applied in full strength directly to the skin. For this purpose, often a “carrier oil” is used to dilute the essential oil when massaging into the body. Simply add several drops of your favorite oil blend into a small jar of carrier oil such as almond, grape seed, avocado or olive oil. Add drops to your personal preference of strength.

Each Oil Is UniqueThe healthy benefits of oils can be absorbed into the body by applying them to the skin, breathing in the vapors and even ingesting oils in certain cases. Additionally, each “aroma” of a specific oil can have a powerful effect on one’s mood and emotions just as listening to a certain song or type of music can instantly change one’s outlook. But unlike synthetic perfumes, essential oils are natural and safe and have become renowned for their ability to heal both emotionally and physically.

Use With CareWhile most essential oils are safe and easy to use, one must also take care. Essential oils can be strong and some oils can cause irritation when applied directly to the skin or applied near or on sensitive areas such as eyes, ears and nose. Consult each oil and use carrier oils when needed. It is advised to try one drop when using internally first - or apply on small area of skin to test. Use common sense, go slow and test in the beginning.

Antioxidant SuperheroA few drops of essential oils skyrockets off the charts when it comes to measuring antioxidant strength. Antioxidants are what fight off dangerous “radicals” from our bodies which cause disease, aging and even cancer. On the ORAC scale (how they rate antioxidants) blueberries are one of the all time highest foods and score 2,400. That is VERY high. However, compare blueberries to these essential oils:

Blueberries 2,400 Rosemary Oil 3,309 Cinnamon Oil 103,448 Thyme Oil 159,590 Clove Oil 10,786,875

Clove oil has more than a million times the antioxidant effect than the esteemed blueberry! One cannot emphasize enough the health boost of a single drop of these powerful essential oils! (Our IMUNNE blend is off the charts on the ORAC scale!)

Proven AntibacterialMany essential oils have been shown to be exceptionally powerful in fighting harmful bacteria, fungus, parasites and anything else that can be dangerous to the cell! Studies have shown that some of the best essential oils for fighting pathogens are Clove, Oregano, Thyme and Lavender (included in our IMUNNE blend -which is a powerhouse!). Diffusing IMUNNE into the air can be very effective in cleansing airborne pathogens. One can also use internally or massage into skin if used properly. Don’t underestimate the immune boosting power of essential oils.

3 Ways To Apply Essential Oils

The Power Of AromatherapyEach oil has a distinctive “aroma” that can act on our moods and emotions. The calming scent of lavender, the uplifting scent of Italian orange or the invigorating scent of rosemary are examples of the powerful effects that essential oils can have to instantly shift moods and thought processes. Breathing in the aroma is the most common way to get benefits of oils. It is easy and the essence of the oil in min-ute particles drift through air and into the blood stream nourishing the cells and reaching the mood centers of the brain. Aromatherapy from essential oils can be very effective in healing the spirit, mind and body.

Quick Absorption Through The SkinThe skin is one of the quickest and best ways to absorb nutrition into the cells of the body. Essential oils are powerful enough to imme-diately penetrate the skin and cell membranes. They can diffuse through the blood and tissues in a matter of seconds! They also have been shown to be able to cross the brain-blood barrier to reach the parts of the brain that control our mood and emotions. This is one of the reasons they seem to be so effective in helping with anxiety, stress, anger or any emotional issues. Oils can be absorbed through the skin by massage or also by adding into a hot bath with Epsom salts. Test a drop on a small area of skin before using. Adding a few drops of your favorite blend into a carrier oil (almond, grape seed, coconut) is recommended.

Cooking With OilsCooking with essential oils can add a burst of flavor as well as add nutritional value! Research has shown that the benefits of essential oils are substantial as they contain minerals, enzymes, vitamins, hormones and more. They are also very concentrated so a little goes a long way. There are many ways you can try using oils on a daily basis. Examples include adding a few drops of oil to cookies, cakes, salad dressings, sauces, stews, soups, desserts, puddings, teas, smoothies and even creating flavored honey!

Sleep Aid – Rub a couple drops of the Calma blend on your palms and brush on your pillow to help you sleep. You can also add the aroma from a diffuser into the room to enhance the effect.

Apply To Body – Add a touch of essential oils to your wrists, ear lobes, side of neck or even under your nose. Use a carrier oil when needed if there is a skin sensitivity. Apply to small area first to test. Benefits from the oils can be transmitted both through the skin and through the aroma.

The feet are full of reflex points that affect the entire body allowing the essential oils to have a more powerful effect.
