Objective: To multiply Decimals and apply decimal multiplication
to real world problems.
Multiplying Decimals
What Multiplication looks likeThere are multiple ways to express
multiplication:
3.4 x 53.4 • 53.4 * 53.4(5)(3.4)(5)
Steps1) Count how many digits are AFTER
the decimal in the problem.
2) Multiply like normal (ignoring the decimals)
3) Place decimal in the product (Answer) with the total number of digits behind the decimal
Example 114.3 x 0.81
Example 23.4 x 2.1 x 0.8
Example 3At your part-time job, you earn

Objective – To divide decimals and solve problems by dividing
decimals
Dividing Decimals
What division looks likeThere are 3 ways to write 1.2 divided by
0.3
1.2 ÷ 0.3
0.3 √ 1.2 1.20.3
Vocabulary
Steps1. If there is a decimal in the divisor, move
the decimal all the way to the right turning the decimal into a whole number.
2. If you move the decimal in the divisor, you MUST move the decimal in the dividend to the right the same number of digits ( may need to add 0’s)
3. Take the decimal in the dividend straight up into the quotient
4. Divide.
Example 12.064 ÷ 0.24
Example 2You use 0.6 lbs of bananas in each
smoothie. How many smoothies can you make with 3.12 lbs of bananas?
With a partner – Example 312.42 ÷ 5.4
On your own – Example 567.84 ÷ 0.64
