ADVANCING ENERGY MANAGEMENTDesigning a progressive, layered impact liner requires a special material for managing low-speed impacts. Expanded Polyolefin (EPO) is a soft and flexible low-density polymer that, when placed between the EPP and EPS layers, works incredibly well to dampen low-threshold impacts. By combining these 3 unique materials at varying densities, we’vecreated an energy management system that excels in low, mid, and high-speed impacts.
Progressive layering *The Moto-9 Flex impact liner is designed to perform across a range of crash scenarios. It does this by using three different materials at three different densities. As the impact becomes greater, higher density layers are engaged to manage energy.

This comprehensive testing approach is founded in the reality of the ride; that no two impacts are alike. With that reality, comes the Bell Standard—a testing standard born from decades of helmet expertise and our state-of-the-art test lab inside the Dome. The Bell Standard represents Bell’s commitment to protection across the board, enabling athletes to push the boundaries with confidence.
above & beyond sinCe day oneIn the Dome, every helmet is subject to the Bell Standard. This internal standard ensures that we meet or exceed the governing standards and test comprehensively.
VELOCITYTesting at varying speeds
represents unique crash scenarios.
PENETRATIONA 5kg pointed mass is used to test
against penetration.
DuRAbILITYWe build helmets that are made
to last.
LINEAR ACCELERATION
Using a twin-wire set up and measuring Severity Index, HIC and peak g with a linear accelerometer and velocity time gate, we are able to “drop test” helmets onto varying surfaces prescribed by governing standards and our own comprehensive testing methods.
ROTATIONAL ACCELERATION
We can now test by varying the speed, weight and angle of attack for an instrumented dummy to collide into a textured surface, simulating typical crash mechanics.
