BELINDA ADAMS I moved to Labrador City at the age of 3 and have been here ever since. I have worked 32 years with the Iron Ore Company in various roles. Through those years I experienced multiple layoffs, I remained a student and studied Psychology and Social Work, before returning to full time work in the mine. I was actively involved with the Union for almost half my career and then moved into some leadership role. I held the positions of Supervisor, HSE Superintendent, Contractor Management Superintendent and my last role being Superintendent of Pellet Plant Operations. I have worked on many taskforce and joint committees and held positions on the JOSHE committee, as well as served as Team Manager and Vice President for Labrador West Minor Hockey. My biggest accomplishment is being a proud mother of two boys, Matthew and Nathan Grouchy who live and work in Labrador City currently. My mother Loretta Adams is retired and living in Labrador City, and I have a sister Keila Adams and a niece and nephew living here as well. Labrador City is my family’s home and it’s allowed and afforded me the opportunity to raise my boys in a beautiful and safe community, provide my family a good living and so many opportunities to be part of a community we love. I am very grateful for what we have and thankful for the residents and leaders who stepped up and helped make that happen, so it’s time to show my appreciation and pay back to the community. Small groups of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.

BRIAN BARNETT I have been a resident of Labrador City for 45 years. I attended UNB where I obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree. Upon completion of my degree, I returned to Labrador City as this was the Town I wanted to call home. Donna and I have two children, Courtney and Ryan and they have recently completed University and College and I am happy to say they have decided to make this Town their permanent residence as well. Throughout my career I have worked with great companies: IOCC, RMS and am currently working with Northern Industrial Supply as a Sales Representative. My work and volunteer experience has allowed me to meet new people throughout our community. These interactions have given me great insight into many of the challenges and issues that face our residents. In 2017, I was honoured to receive the Labrador West Builders award which represents “unwavering dedication through service, unity and leadership”. I’ve also had the

privilege of serving a two-year term as a member of the Labrador City Recreation Committee. I have coached Labrador West Minor Hockey for thirteen years and advocated for developing youth ball hockey in our area. I am currently serving as the Labrador Regional Representative for NL Ball Hockey Association. My involvement with these associations demonstrates desire and wiliness to collaborate with other members of our community, Council, and management teams. If elected to Council I will work with all members, remain steadfast, and strive for what is best for the community. I believe that we need to be proactive, when there are issues in our community, we need to step up and take action. Labrador City is a vibrant town. Its diverse age group from youth to seniors and the endless opportunities it offers, make it the place I would love to retire. Your voice matters, I care!

MATTHEW FOWLER

Good day, my name is Matt Fowler and as you may know I'm running in the upcoming Town Council elections.

My family came to the big land from the island in 1961. I was born and raised in Labrador City, although I did move to Alberta in 2012 to see if the grass is greener on the other side, the grass is only as green as you make it. I returned to the land that I love in 2019 when my mother was diagnosed with cancer.

So why should you vote for me? Well I will admit I have never done anything like this before, I can state I'm a fast learner with a extreme work ethic and a neurotic attention to detail. All I can say is I will break my back working for every local resident of Labrador City to improve the quality of you and your loved ones lives.

Thank you and have a lovely day.

KIM HARTERY

Hi! My name is Kim Hartery and I would love your support in the upcoming municipal election.

As a lot of stories start, when I moved to Labrador City it was for 6 months and 6 months only lol! Well 20 years later I’m still here with no intention of leaving. I have raised my three girls here and have made this place home. I have made many friendships and taken on many new pastimes that I love like snowboarding, skiing and kayaking. I am currently working on my 11th year with the Iron Ore Company of Canada. Labrador City is a place I love and want to help see it grow and succeed. Our Town has so much potential that we can unleash, and I would love to have the opportunity be a part of that! Our community needs to be a place for people to put down roots and grow. We need a community that people want to live in and be a part of.

I am asking that on Sept 28th you put your trust and confidence in me to represent you on the Town Council. If you would like to have a further discussion with me I would love the opportunity. You can reach me at [email protected] or call 944-0861.

JUNIOR HUMPHRIES

Hi, my name is Junior Humphries and I am running for re-election to the Town Council of Labrador City, NL. I moved to Labrador City in 1973 with my wife, Josephine. We raised our three children here, all of which still live here, including our two grandchildren, Amelia and Evan. I have been volunteering in our community for more than 45 years. I’ve volunteered as a Boy Scout Leader, softball coach, Lions Club member, Minor Hockey Referee, Coach, Director, Manager, and am presently serving an 18 year term as President of Labrador West Minor Hockey. In 1995 with the help of my daughter, Tina, we started a Minor Hockey Female Division for all ages in Labrador West. I am proud to say it is still going strong. In 2017, I was instrumental in bringing the Special Olympics program to Labrador West and am pleased to see that this program is progressing well with a fine group of athletes and many willing volunteers. I am also glad to be the Chair of the Carol

United Church Official Board and a member of Session. I am proud to say I have been Deputy Mayor of Labrador City for the past 8 years and have thoroughly enjoyed my two terms working with a great bunch of Councillors, Mayors, and staff. I am very interested in working with, and for, our Youth of Labrador West. I also want to make sure our seniors have the opportunity and affordability to reside in Labrador West if they choose to do so. I believe our Town needs to be accessible and inclusive so everyone with mobility issues can get out and enjoy the services that Labrador City has to offer. We have a young town, but our infrastructure is over 50 years old. We must keep working on replacing it. In order to do this, we need the two higher levels of Government to provide us with funding. My vision for the Town of Labrador City would be to work with the Town Council of Wabush and make Labrador West attractive to the people coming here to work, they would want to stay and raise their families here. On September 28, I respectfully ask for your support. Vote Humphries.

RYAN PIKE

My name is Ryan Pike. I was born and raised here in Labrador City. I am the proud father of Mason, my eight year old son who just stared Grade 4 at JRS Middle School. Shortly after trade school I was fortunate to obtain a position at the Iron Ore Company of Canada and have been employed there for the last 15 years. I am a journeyperson Heavy Duty Technician and a member of the USW 5795. I enjoy and appreciate living in Labrador City. It is a place where I can spend the winters snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and playing hockey with my son and taking him to his games. In the summer, there is kayaking, biking, and walking trails. But most of all, in Labrador City there is a sense of community. It doesn't matter if you were born here or just arrived, that sense of community exists. I am proud to live here and to raise my son here. If elected, I would work with our community and listen to our members to bring forward their concerns. I would be a strong voice for the improvement of

Seniors Programs that would improve the quality of life and enhance opportunities such as increased recreational programs, opportunities for lifelong learning, and the removal of transportation barriers that prohibit participation. I feel that we need to work with our youth to implement programs that would successfully meet their needs. Also, Labrador City has a lot to offer in our great outdoors and we need to improve on some opportunities there, such as adequate trails for ATV, UTV, and dirt bikes as well as cycling trails. I won’t make promises on what I can accomplish. This is a new endeavour, and I don’t know what to expect. But I can promise that I will listen and work hard and respectfully on your behalf.

Volunteer experiences: Relay for Life, Winter Carnival, Cains Quest, Christmas party events, Retirement party events, Canada Day, Door to Door campaign for Heart and Stroke Foundation.

My vision for the Town of Labrador city: I believe many heads are better than one to improve the community. I would like to take a collaborative effort with the people, Town, options and budget to understand where the priorities are and the needs that need to be addressed and focused on first. Everything cannot be done at one time due to schedules, resources and time restraints as well as restrictions. I believe we can resolve more by focusing on the problems and prioritize them effectively. Of course, this cannot be done without a group effort. So, I hope to work with a great team where we can put our minds and skills together for the town to help the community get where it needs to go. This town is our home. We would like to keep it home for ourselves, our children and the new people to come.
