God has a plan for each one of us!

This plan becomes a reality as we co-operate with God in His concern

His plan is that we reach the fullness that He intends of us

When we grow into His plan, then we become channels of blessings in the hands of God.

In order to bring about wholeness or maturity, the Lord takes us through a process of developing character within us. If we fail to understand this process, we are bound to struggle in our walk with God.

Through integrity checks!

These comes in various forms, nature, substance and intensity

It is always the master potter at work correcting a character flow in us.

These would include handling a relationship, dealing with crisis/conflict, submission, finances, sexual fidelity.

We can deal with this either positively, and grow in maturity with Christ, or negatively and go down spiritually.

How does God build How does God build Character in us?Character in us?

Genesis 22:1-2Later on God tested Abraham’s faith

and obedience. “Abraham! God called. “Yes,” he replied. Here I am. Take your son, your only son-yes Isaac, whom you love so much-and go to the land of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will point out to you”.

We might ask ourselves questions

What wrong had Abraham done?

Had he not been obeying God?

Yes he was, but God was in the process of building character and God’s ways, on several occasions, are beyond human understanding.

Genesis 22:2 “Take now thy son, thine only son…”.

How many sons did Abraham have at this point of time? Two! Ishmael was there

Then what did God mean by saying, “take your only son?”

To Abraham, Isaac was the promised child

Through Isaac, Abraham was to experience all the covenant promises that God had made with Him.

Now Isaac’s importance to Abraham was growing to the extent that the question now was “Who was holding the first place in Abraham’s life?, was it God or was it Isaac?”.

What was the What was the character flow in character flow in

Verse 12 “Lay down the knife, the Angel said. Do not hurt the boy in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld even your beloved son from me”.

Here we see the dramatic turn of events. Abraham had obeyed God.

He had laid the boy on the altar

He had pulled out his knife, raised it and was now about to plunge the knife.

Isaac was still the son of promise but for Abraham, God now had the first place in his life, and not his son.

“God is first”, was the aspect of Abraham’s character that was established through this check. The lord goes to this extent to say

“Now I know that you fear God…”

Integrity Checks are God’s stepping-stones for maturity.

If we do not handle integrity checks positively

We will miss out the entire blessing that God has for us

We can never powerfully impact the circles of influence that God has proposed for us.

Imagine what would have happened, had Abraham refused or side-stepped the trial, or even prayed for God to remove it.

Page 13: Being Made Whole

NDURU CONSULTING

BUILDING FAITH! BUILDING HOPE!

Think this in terms of your own life, when you last went through a very severe integrity check.

Did you obey Him?

Or did you grumble and complain?

Do you remember how God wanted your obedience and how you actually responded to the check?

If there has been disobedience, I urge you, even right now, to set things right with the Lord.

Our circles of influence are widened because we dealt positively with an integrity check.

“At the Lord’s command, the people of Israel left the Sin Desert and moved from place to place. Eventually they came to Rephidim, but there was no water to be found there. So once more the people grumbled and complained to Moses. “Give us water to drink!” they demanded. “Quiet!” Moses replied. “Why are you arguing with me? And why are you testing the Lord?”.

Here is an integrity check that God allowed into the life of the Israelites.

How would we have behaved?

What was the Character What was the Character flow God was correcting?flow God was correcting?

One of the problems with the Israelites was complaining.

Exodus 17:7 “Moses named the place Massah-“the place of testing”-and Meribah-“the place of arguing”-because the people of Israel argued with Moses and tested the Lord by saying, “Is the Lord going to take care of us or not?”. The lord’s grief was that these people, by fighting and grumbling against Moses were actually saying “Is God amongst us or not?”.

Character development takes place when we affirm God’s presence with us in the most trying circumstances.

Psalm 106:14:15 “In the wilderness, their desires ran wild, testing God’s patience in that dry land. So he gave them what they asked for, but he sent a plague along with it”.

Page 17: Being Made Whole

James 1:2-4 explains this process beautifully.

“Dear brothers and sisters, whenever trouble comes you way, let it be an opportunity for joy. For when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be strong in character and ready for anything.

Attitude to meet a crisis!

He brought me here, its by His will. I am in this difficult place. In that fact I will rest

He will keep me here in His love and give me grace to behave as His Child.

Then He will make the trial a blessing, teaching me the lessons. He intends me to learn

In His good time He will bring me out again-How and When He knows.

So let me say, “I am here by God’s appointment, in His keeping, under His training for time”.

Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do”.

1 Chronicles 29:17 “I know, my God, that you examine our hearts and rejoice when you find integrity there. You know I have done all this with good motives, and I have watched your people offer their gifts willingly and joyously”.

Jeremiah 17:9-10 “The human heart is most deceitful and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? But I Know! I, the Lord, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve”.

Therefore what is seen externally is a very small portion of our total personality. The external visible portion can be manipulated and manoeuvred, to a certain extent. We often try and put up a display of good behaviour, so as to impress people around us. The major portion of our personality, which is submerged, is where we need to focus. Our true nature is deep within us and, ever so often, determines our external behaviour. NDURU

Mark 7:21-23 “For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, eagerness for lustful pleasure, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you and make you unacceptable to God”.

1 Samuel 16:7 “But the Lord said to Samuel, Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The lord doesn’t make decisions the way you do! People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at a person’s thoughts and intentions”.

Is our service to Him out of a deep love for Him, from the heart, or is it only an activity to impress people. NDURU

Mark 10:17-22 “ As he was starting out on a trip, a man came running up to Jesus, knelt down, and asked, “Good teacher, what should I do to get eternal life?” Why do you call me good? Jesus asked. Only God is truly good. But as for your question, you know the commandments: Do not murder. Do not commit adultery. Do not steal. Do not testify falsely. Do not cheat. Honor your father and mother. Teacher, the man replied, I have obeyed all these commandments since I was a child. Jesus felt genuine love for this man as He looked at him. You lack only one thing, He told him. Go and sell all you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come follow me. At this the man’s face fell, and he went sadly away because he had many possessions”.

Let your lives shine brightly before them. Hold tightly to the word of life, so that when Christ returns, I will be proud that I did not lose the race and that my work was not useless.”

He was a senior man, in terms of physical age.

He has known God intimately, for many years

The ways of God were not new to him

As a leader he knew that he has to set an example

He was with his own family and in his own house, when the Bathsheba incident took place

He could never expect to commit adultery and get away with it

Even before the matter reached the physical level, King David had fallen at the Visual/Mental dimension.

He saw a woman bathing (that is very natural)

He saw that she was beautiful (he was now examining her closely)

He sent and enquire about the woman (Mentally he was falling)

He sent for her (mentally he had fallen)

King David could not see sin as sin because, for a brief moment in his life, he was not walking in fear of God. The action of sending messengers to inquire about Bathsheba and then sending them again, to fetch her, shows that King David had already fallen mentally.

Joseph and Potiphar’s wife

This is the usual trap manner for women to fall into sexual sin. We see this dimension so vividly explained in Genesis chapter 39. Potipha’s wife was attracted to Joseph.

receiving special favours from Potipha’s wife, if he pleased her.

He was now the general manager of Potiphar’s house and therefore, he could have decided that he had all the privileges.

The woman was offering herself to him. It was not him who was going after her.
