Being Green Outdoors

• The seven points of Leave No Trace help remember the way to act when we are in the outdoors.

• Let’s take a look at someone that needs to review the code

Leave No Trace – Outdoor Ethics• KNOW BEFORE YOU GO –

• Let’s go on a campout this weekend.

• Shouldn’t we:• File a tour permit • Check the weather forecast• Plan a menu and shop for food?

• Where is your sense of adventure.• It’s a hassle to file a tour permit. • It hasn’t rained in the last month.• We can plan in the car• and find a super market on the way• We have 30 boys should we have an

adult for every 5 boys?

• CHOOSE THE RIGHT PATH–

Leave No Trace – Outdoor Ethics

• Wow, who saw that rain storm coming that hit us last night?

• I believe the weather man is on every night. Didn’t you check the forecast

• Let’s take the boys on a hike this morning. • I saw a field of wild flowers we could have the boys run around in and make designs like they do in those crops.

• That would really mess up the beautiful flowers for the next group.

• We got here first let them find their own flowers

• LEAVE WHAT YOUR FIND –

Leave No Trace – Outdoor Ethics

• Check that that out

• I believe that is a petroglyph over a 1000 years old

•Sweet, I think I can chip a chunk on the rock off and get most of it to take home and put in my back yard

• It has survived over a 1000 years we should let other enjoy the wonderful site

• BE CARFUL WITH FIRE –

Leave No Trace – Outdoor Ethics

• I love a big fire – lets send all the boys out to find more fire wood.

• I believe there is plenty of wood on the fire for tonight and it is a bit dark to send the boy looking for wood.

• OK – If we can’t add more wood then let’s stir it up to see the sparks fly.

• That sounds like a fire hazard and a bad example for the boys.

• I know – we can throw all of the bugs we found today into the fire.

• No - Let’s set those bugs loose and tell a great Cubmaster tale.

• RESPECT WILDLIFE –

Leave No Trace – Outdoor Ethics

• Look, a mama bear and her cub.

• We should fall back and take the boys the other ways.

• The mama bear is way ahead and we could get the boys in to see the cute cub before she notices.

• Even better I will go catch that cub so the boys can play with it, we’ll let it go later.

• No mama bears are very protective and could come after us if we get too close.

• BE KIND TO YOUR NEIGHBORS –

Leave No Trace – Outdoor Ethics

•This is the greatest camp site. Look there are some more campers across the way.

• We are up before everyone else. So we should keep the noise down for a little while.• Everyone loves “smoke on the water” I’ll crank up my jam box and get everyone out of bed like they do in those military shows.• Let’s just wait and enjoy the quite time before the day gets started.

• TRASH YOUR TRASH–

Leave No Trace – Outdoor Ethics

• Wow we generated a lot of trash this weekend. It will make a nice fire when we pile it up and set it on fire

• Shouldn’t we:• Bag it up and take it with us

• No way that will take too long and I want to get back for Sunday afternoon football• Shouldn’t we:

• Leave it better than we found it.

• No way that is over rated and who does that anyway? We can spread it around and cover some of the trash up and they will think someone else made the mess.

• Isn’t there something we could teach the boys about outdoor ethics?

Leave No Trace – Outdoor Ethics• We all need to follow the outdoor ethics s

Being Green Outdoors

•Know before you go

•Choose the right path

•Leave what you find

•Respect wildlife

•Be kind to your neighbors

•Trash your Trash

•Be kind to your neighbors

• Be careful with fire

• So everyone can enjoy the outdoors
