FROM THE SHERIFF
Pictured above: The Lew Sterrett Kitchen staff during one of their recent
afternoon detail meetings.
On December 17, 2013, the Dallas County Health Department performed a rou-tine inspection of the Lew Sterrett Kitchen. These routine inspections are con-ducted twice a year in compliance with regulatory standards. During this inspec-tion, the kitchen received a “perfect” score with no demerits. Very few kitchens are found to be in full compliance with all standards during inspections and a per-fect score is very rare. The Lew Sterrett Kitchen staff are to be commended for this accomplishment. Furthermore, the facilities staff that work in the kitchen should also be praised as maintenance and timely repairs also contributed to the outstanding inspection results.
Happy 2014! A new year is ahead of us and with it come new objectives. I am
very proud of the generosity embodied by some of our officers as so many
stepped up to give during the holiday season, without hesitation.
I want to commend the efforts of the Lew Sterrett Kitchen staff who recently
earned something rarely achieved— a perfect score in their health department
inspection. This month, we introduced a high school internship group made up of
students who have expressed an interest in a law enforcement career. Help
make their experience as educational and memorable as possible, after all, they
are our future community leaders.

December 2013 – Deputy Mayo Loza
Deputy Mayo Loza works in the Traffic Division. He is a dependable employee
who is a consistent top performer. He is dedicated to reducing the dangers of
alcohol impairment drivers and for that, he should be recognized for his commit-
ment to the safety of the citizens of Dallas County.
November 2013 – Lieutenant Stephen Womack
Lt. Stephen Womack serves as Dallas County incident manager. He is the
terminal agency coordinator, the point of contact with DPS, on all matters re-
lated to maintaining compliance with state and federal policies as related to
the handling of criminal justice information.
Since formally beginning the AFIX Palm Print Electronic Database in June
2013, with no dedicated staff, Lt. Womack has facilitated the entry of over
64,000 searchable palm prints. He has also increased the number of other
law enforcement agencies who can access the system remotely.
November 2013 – Detention Service Officer Christopher Johnson
Detention Service Officer Christopher Johnson is part of the Special Response
Team. He is dedicated to his duties and is always ready and willing to assist his
co-workers. When a supervisor directs him to report for an assignment, he is
always prompt to respond and he is also willing to give up his weekends, at
times. His actions make him a valuable asset to the department.
FROM PG 1: Thank you to the Lew Sterrett Kitchen staff for you hard work. The results have spoken!

The Sixth Annual Bryant Joseph Christmas in the Community event, under the guidance of Captain Mark How-
ard, was a big success. Hundreds of families gathered for a day of fun and received loads of holiday gifts.
This community outreach program allows the Dallas Sheriff’s Department an opportunity to serve a segment of
the community which, often times, goes forgotten during the holiday season.

Holiday Bicycle Giveaway
About 60 low-income children received bicycles this holiday season, thanks to the efforts of the Inmate Pro-grams Division.
Several community donors provided new and used bicycles. Among them the Fraternal Order of Police donated $1,500.
Many thanks to all the donors and remember, the bicycle repair shop in the North Tower is year round so dona-tions are always accepted, no matter what condition a bicycle is in.

Now Open: North Tower Bicycle Repair Shop
Thanks to the efforts of the Inmate Programs staff, there is a bicycle repair shop open in the North Tower. Cur-rently there are five non-violent offenders learning the trade. It all was made possible because of the communi-ty’s response to donation requests.
A very special thank you to Megan Foley, Operations Assistant Store Manager, Lemmon Avenue Home Depot #0589 for their generous donation of tools and supplies to get the Bike Shop in full operation to begin assem-bling bicycles.
Remember: It is always to right time for you to donate that bicycle that isn’t being put to much use in your home. Even if a bicycle is missing some parts, this group can give it a whole new look.
Contact the inmate programs director or her assistant if you would like to donate or 214.653.3474 or 214.653.2839.
We’re rounding up a team for the Grand Prairie Dragon Boat Racing Festival scheduled for Sat. April 12, 2014 at Loyd Park on Joe Pool Lake. Rules require the team to have 8 women paddling at any given time. Interested ladies and gentlemen, send an email to [email protected] and you’ll receive notifications as the day approaches.
