LESSON 5: BEHAVIOR JUST BEFORE SPEAKING

CHRISTIAN LLOYD SUAYANKATHREEN COLEEN CORILLA

“BEFORE” NOT AFTER , NOT TOMORROW NOT TODAY!

INTRODUCTION When waiting for your turn to speak, it is

important that you know how your movements affect the impressions of your audience towards you- your sincerity, friendliness and your energy.

They can read these things from facial expressions, the way you stand and walk and from the things you do with your arms and hands. Very often a slight shrug of the shoulder or an expressive look is more revealing than a hundred words could be.

“FIRST IMPRESSION, NEVER DIE”

SPECIAL GUEST:

POSTURE Good posture should not be observed only

when somebody is looking at you. Sitting tall and standing tall must be a day-

to day habit.

POSTURE

FEET Your feet should not be too close or too far

apart. Remember when feet are to close together your

whole body tends towards stiffness; and When are too apart, you look awkward on stage.

FEET

BODY Remember to stand tall but relaxed Your chest is up but not thrust out Your shoulder blades must be leveled; and

avoid military at- attention position.Body

HEAD Your head must be erect. You must not let it sag or fall at one side.

HEAD

ARMS AND HANDS Avoid putting your hands inside the pocket. They must always be free and ready to act.

ARMS AND HAND

SWAYING FROM SIDE TO SIDE Just like any other mannerisms, this also be

very ditracting.

MANNERISM

YOUR GOAL Is to limit your listener from being bored like this……

And like this…

But try to be like this…

And this….

SOME DEFINITE PROCEDURE ONE MUST BE “OBSERVE”

Before you go the platform, Make sure you know the word-for-word your

first three sentences This will help to gain your confidence.

When you approach the platform, Project a friendly personality Smile pleasantly but not badly.

When you sit, Do it with poise Don’t slump down Sit slowly and gracefully without bending all the

way down Avoid putting your hands on your knees; you

might appear stiff or nervous.

When you came forward Start projecting your thoughts towards the

audience But make sure you don’t start unless your

audience is quiet and ready to listen

When you speak Make your audience feel that you are talking

to them personally They want to feel a sense of personal

relationship as if the speaker were engaging them in a conversation.

When you move If you move to another part of the stage

make sure you keep your gaze at your audience.

Don’t look to the floor because if you do you will lose contact with your audience.

When you have concluded your speech Make your audience feel that you have come

to the end of your speech. This must be indicated by both voice and

your thoughts development Acknowledge your audience with a gentle

bow.
