SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL: SCHOOL BUS SAFETY TIPS

You have seen school buses on the road.  Here are a few things to know to support the safety of the students in our community.

When do you need to stop for a school bus? Flashing Yellow Lights •Warning you to slow down and get ready to stop.

Red Flashing Lights •You MUST stop in EITHER DIRECTION until the kids are safely

across the street AND the lights stop flashing. •The law requires you remain stopped as long as the red lights

are flashing (CVC §22454). • If you fail to stop, you may be fined up to $1,000 and your

driving privilege could be suspended for 1 year. • If the school bus is on the other side of a divided or multilane

highway (two or more lanes in each direction), you do not need to stop.

What are School Bus Loading Zones? These zones are marked with a painted white curb and signs.  They provide the school bus a safe access and efficient location to drop off and pick up students. Only school buses may park in the zone during the indicated time.  Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police will be enforcing these zones around the school sites.

Find information at www.dmv.ca.gov.
