Safeguarding

• New Acceptable Use Policy guidance–AUPs in context: Establishing safe and responsible online behaviours

• Know IT All for Primary schools–www.childnet-int.org/kia/primary/

• Re-launched accredited internet service provider scheme now includes:

– internet activity monitoring products– applicable to establishments other than schools– minor changes to standards (aligned with PAS74)– improved application system.

Projector health & safety• New technology available ‘Ultra Short Throw’ projection devices – should be

considered when purchasing new projectors.• Virtually eliminates possibility of eyesight damage due to exposure to beam of

projector• Does not mean other projector installations are unsafe – but beware of poor

installations.• Disseminate new information to users and purchasers

Software Licensing Framework

• Framework launched on 9 October 2008• £239k through the framework to date• Invitation to Quote (ITQ) tool on OGCbuying.solutions website

provides an automated and simple process to procure the software you need

Environmental Sustainability

• Why talk about environmental sustainability?–The UK Government believes that climate change is the greatest long-term

challenge facing the world today

• What are Becta trying to do in this area?–Zero Carbon Task Force for Schools –guidance to help schools promote a cultural change to reduce consumption,

consider alternative solutions and manage ICT assets better–encouraging schools to demand and adopt optimum energy solutions.

Parental Engagement

• The story so far:–notification of school expectations (Joint letter - June 2008)–framework for online reporting (Secondary schools – June 2008)–research, case studies, videos (Becta website – ongoing)–framework for online reporting (Primary schools – March 2009).

• Local authority support–local authority resource kit workshop on 27 April–what could be included in a "Resource Kit" for local authorities to help

schools in reaching the parental engagement targets in 2010 and 2012?
