Because We Were Baptized

Baptism

• Baptism = immersion in water• By a repentant believer in Jesus• For the forgiveness of their sins

• Some results of baptism are immediate

• Other results are long-term

Because we were baptized :

• We walk in newness of lifeRomans 6:4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Because we were baptized :

• We are transformedRomans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Because we were baptized :

• There should be unity• Ephesians 4:4-6 4 There is one body and one

Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Because we were baptized :

• There should be unity1 Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free--and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.Galatians 3:26-27 26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

Because we were baptized :

Because we were baptized :

• We seek things abov• Colossians 3:1 If then you were raised with

Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.

Because we were baptized :

• We abandon sin1 Corinthians 6:9-11 9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

Because we were baptized :

• We abandon sin• 2 Corinthians 6:17 Therefore "Come out from

among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you."

• Revelation 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven saying, "Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.

Because we were baptized :

• Baptism is more than forgiveness of sins• Baptism is more than becoming a Christian• Because we were baptized we make changes

in our lifestyle, behavior, and thinking.
