Product Descriptions - Industrial Pads

LP-13 SHAKE ABSORBER® VIBRATION ISOLATION PAD The properties which set the LP-13 Shake Absorber® apart from ordinary

vibration pads consists of a plastic Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) sheet

between two layers of very tough but flexible custom blended neoprene.

The cushion serves to dampen machine vibration while the ABS layer absorbs

violent shocks and evenly distributes the weight of the machine. This combi-

nation turns mechanical energy caused by the vibration into heat energy and

disperses it throughout the pad.

LP-13 LITE We stock our custom blended neoprene for leveling and aligning critical

equipment. We can custom cut shims to any size up to 22‖ x 40‖ in our

Shore A 70+/- Durometer and slightly larger in our Shore A 55+/- Durometer.

These shims cost less than conventional metal shims and can be stacked and

glued to achieve the proper height required. As a rule, metal shims do not

decrease the vibration isolation or offer dampening properties. Our LP-13

Shims provide additional vibration isolation, control and noise dampening.

VINYL NITRILE This product is excellent for light weight applications. This PVC closed-cell

foam has a Shore A Durometer of 35 ± and weighs 35 pounds

per cubic foot. The thickness is 3/8‖ and is strong enough to walk on

without major distortion due to the cells or bubbles not being broken; they

resemble inflated balloons or soccer balls, piled together in a constant

configuration. This makes it strong and flexible because the bubbles are

strong enough to take a lot of pressure, like the inflated tires that hold up an

automobile. The vinyl nitrile has excellent co efficient of friction and water-

proof properties making it perfect for preventing slipping and sliding and can

be used in an outdoor application.

Do you have vibration issues costing you productivity with machine downtime and expensive mainte-

nance costs?

Do you have the reliability and experience of an organization providing vibration solutions for 50 years?

Kellett’s products provide a cost effective solution to this problem. Our product converts mechanical en-

ergy to heat energy, and that in effect prevents transfer of vibration at the contact points.

Because our pads are always custom cut but never custom priced, the number of applications where

these products resolves vibration and noise is endless and includes: residential & commercial genera-

tors, HVAC equipment, hydraulic presses, rock crushing equipment, precision laboratory scales, bridges

& suspensions, bakery equipment, motor mounts, compressors and an endless array of other applica-

tions. Standard thickness’ are 3/8‖ and 3/4‖. 1/2‖ and 1‖ are also available.

Just a Few of Our Many Customer Testimonials

Feedback from Customers of our KE Shake Away™ Pads

“We have used the Kellett pads for 18 months and they have had a major impact on the noise and vibration re-

duction from our Bosch front loader washing machine and dryer. The noise dampening has been incredible. ’’

“I received the KE Shake Away™ pads late this afternoon, and couldn't wait to try them out. I have just finished my

second wash load ... and there is no longer any vibration throughout the house during the spin cycle. The pads are

great ... they seem to absorb all the vibration, thus only the actual washer will vibrate during the final spin, and it

runs so smoothly.”

“ I don’t know if you have a sales force or not, but EVERY major appliance chain or store in America needs to stock

your pads. This vibration problem with front loading washers is quite significant, and not many salespeople in the

stores are familiar with products to stunt the vibration. I’ve had sales associates tell me to change back to a top

loader; change what floor of my house the unit is on; re-level the unit …and much more…I’ve even heard sales

associates tell me that they won’t sell a front loading washer, because of the complaints from the vibration.

You’ve solved the problem.”

“Hello just wanted take time to advise how great your KE Shake Away™ pads are working on our pedestal mounted

front end load washer. The difference is truly dramatic and has virtually reduced floor vibrations 99.9% even in the

high speed spins. Thanks again for a TRULY AMAZING PRODUCT.”

Feedback from Customers of the

LP-13 Shake Absorber® Vibration Isolation Pad

―We installed the LP-13 Shake Absorber® Vibration Pads under one of Operator Cabs which has significantly re-duced our impact vibration. The cab stills moves but now it's smoother in motion. Since our test was so successful,

we have installed the LP-13 pads under another operator cab and a large size cab used as a computer room.”

Guy Duke, Allendale, SC

“Thank you very much for your help in our project. Currently we are flying with the systems in place and they seem

to have no problems. We are not running any calculations so I don't have any numbers for you. But your product

has played a role in reducing the vibrations with our jets. Thank you again.”

Lt. Allen Varghese, Aerospace Systems Engineer, Tyndall AFB, FL

“{We had} precision laboratory scales that were drifting as much as 7/100 grams due to vibration. This made them

basically useless for our customer’s application. After simply setting the scales on two, 3/4 inch sheets of LP-13

Shake Absorber® Vibration Isolation Pads, the drift dropped to 2/10000 grams; effectively eliminating 99.997% of

the vibration.”

“As an Audio Engineer with a practice in Building Acoustics & Noise & Vibration Control spanning 25 years, I’ve

found the Kellett Pads to be one of the most useful, well engineered resources available to me to ISOLATE VIBRA-

TION from sensitive electronic components. The physical properties of the material also make it possible to elimi-

nate the establishment of structural transmission path noise, when used under a wide variety of electro-

mechanically coupled machinery housed in or near Noise & Vibration sensitive environments. I would hate to think

of a world without Kellett!”

Vibration 101: Random Facts & Info

About Vibration & Noise It affects the machine, it affects the structure and it even affects you!

What is Vibration? At the first Shock and Vibration Symposium in 1947, mechanical shock was defined as "a sudden and

violent change in the state of motion of the component parts or particles of a body or medium resulting

from the sudden application of a relatively large external force, such as a blow or impact." Since then the

specific words used have changed somewhat but the meaning remains the same. Most analysts treat

shock as a transient vibration. No matter how it is described or what source produced it, the effects of

mechanical shock on structures and equipment create major design problems for a wide variety of sys-

tems.

Vibration refers to mechanical oscillations about an equilibrium point. The oscillations may be periodic

such as the motion of a pendulum or random such as the movement of a tire on a gravel road. Vibration

isolation is the process of isolating an object, such as a piece of equipment, from the source of vibrations.

Vibration is occasionally "desirable." For example, the motion of a tuning fork, the reed in a woodwind

Instrument or harmonica, or the cone of a loudspeaker is desirable vibration, necessary for the correct

functioning of the various devices.

More often, vibration is undesirable, wasting energy and creating unwanted sound and/or noise. For

example, the vibration motions of engines, electric motors, or any mechanical device in operation are

typically unwanted. Such vibrations can be caused by imbalances in the rotating parts, uneven friction,

the meshing of gear teeth, etc. Careful designs usually minimize unwanted vibrations. The study of sound

and vibration are closely related. Sound or "pressure waves" are generated by vibrating structures , (e.g.

vocal cords); these pressure waves can also induce the vibration of structures (e.g. ear drum). Hence,

when trying to reduce noise it is often a problem in trying to reduce vibration.

Effects of Shock

Mechanical shock has the potential for damaging an item for example, an entire light bulb or an element

of the item such as a filament in an Incandescent light bulb.

A brittle or fragile item can fracture. For example, two crystal wine glasses may shatter when

impacted against each other. A shear pin in an engine is designed to fracture with a specific

magnitude of shock. Note that a soft ductile material may sometimes exhibit brittle failure

during shock due to time-temperature superposition.

A ductile item can be bent by a shock. For example, a copper pitcher may bend when dropped

on the floor.

Some items may not be damaged by a single shock but will experience fatigue failure with

numerous repeated low-level shocks.

A shock may result in only minor damage which may not be critical for use. However,

cumulative minor damage from several shocks will eventually result in the item being unusable.

A shock may not produce immediate apparent damage but might cause the service life of the

product to be shortened or the reliability to be reduced.

Some materials such as primary high explosives may detonate with mechanical shock or

impact. Continued

Random Facts & Info About Vibration & Noise, Continued

Things You Should Know About Vibration & Noise

In recent years, a great deal of research has been performed by various academic, industrial and

government groups on the subject of human exposure to vibration. Noise and vibration are known to

affect the cognitive performance, hearing, motor control and vision of humans. The motion that is

induced by vibration can also affect an individual’s ability to perform certain tasks.

Prolonged exposure to a loud environment, particularly where vibration is a constant issue, cuts

down productivity, creates stress and can lead to accidents.

Vibrations fall into two categories: free and forced. Free vibrations occur when the system is disturbed

momentarily and then allowed to move without restraint. The tendency of one object to force another

adjoining or interconnected object into vibration motion is referred to as a forced vibration.

Damping is the dissipation of vibratory energy in solid media and structures with time or distance.

Types include viscous, coulomb, and solid. There are many types of mechanical damping. Friction,

also called dry or Coulomb damping, arises chiefly from the electrostatic forces of attraction between the sliding

surfaces and converts mechanical energy of motion, or kinetic energy, into heat.

Viscous damping is caused by such energy losses as occur in liquid lubrication between moving parts or in a fluid

forced through a small opening by a piston, as in automobile shock absorbers.

All vibration is not bad. Machines produce some oscillatory motion as part of their normal operation

and these are nothing to be concerned about. These are benign vibrations that are characteristic of regular operation of a machine doing what it is supposed to do. Some small amount of vibration can be

useful to overcome friction and to pump lubricants around. Where serious vibration causes accumulated wear on

the mechanism and causes fatigue or even repeated failures, reducing vibration is critical to extending the life of

the machine.

Other Considerations

When laboratory testing, field experience, or engineering judgment indicates that an item could be

damaged by mechanical shock, several courses of action might be considered:

Reduce and control the input shock at the source.

Modify the item to improve its toughness or support it to better handle shocks.

Use shock absorbers or cushions to control the shock transmitted to the item. Cushioning reduces

the peak acceleration by extending the duration of the shock.

Plan for failures: accept certain losses. Have redundant systems available, employ insurance, etc.

How to Resolve Vibration Issues

Kellett Enterprises, Inc has been resolving vibration issues since 1960 and has worked with numerous industrial

companies on many industrial and retail applications. Therefore, when vibration isolation is essential to the suc-

cess of your project and productivity, ask yourself these three important questions:

Are the dynamic characterization terms of pressure, frequency, amplitude, damping coefficient,

coefficient of friction and temperature tolerances important to you?

Do you have vibration issues costing you productivity with machine downtime and expensive

maintenance costs?

Do you have the reliability and experience of an organization providing vibration solutions

since 1960?

All of Kellett’s LP-13 Shake Absorber® Vibration Isolation products provide the answers

in one cost-effective solution

Meet the Kellett Team

Claudia Kellett-McNabb is President & CEO. She assumed the title of

President and CEO in January 2004 and is co-owner of the company. She and her brother James

T. Kellett assumed the daily operations of the family owned business from the founder, the late

Louise C. Kellett. Claudia moved back to Greenville, SC after 23 years working at Georgia-Pacific

Corporation in Atlanta, GA. Claudia has one son, Shawn, who lives in Atlanta. Claudia is involved

with the daily operations as well as being actively involved in moving the company forward in de-

veloping new applications and products for the company. She is also the proud owner of “Missy,”

the newest member of the Kellett team!

Missy Kellett-McNabb is Vice President of Affection. Missy was rescued

by our President, Claudia McNabb, in January 2009. She spends most of her days lounging in the

office and making sure she gets breakfast and lunch tidbits from everyone. Missy was an abused

animal and has blossomed with all of the attention she receives from her Mom and the Kellett

Team. We must confess she is a bit spoiled but she is now well adjusted and happy. She also

gives a lot of affection!

James T Kellett is President of Operations. He assumed the title in January

2004 and is co-owner of Kellett Enterprises, Inc. Shortly after graduating from The University of

South Carolina in 1982, James began working at Kellett learning production of Kellett products

from the ground floor. James is married to Kim Gilstrap. They have two daughters; Anna, 17 who

is a senior at Pickens High School. Rachel, 14 is an eighth grader at Pickens Middle School.

James, Kim, Anna & Rachel are active members of Edwards Road Baptist Church. James’ favorite

Bible verse is Proverbs 16:3 – Commit whatever you do to the Lord and your plans will succeed.

in January 2008, bringing an extensive background in logistics and 33 years experience with

Georgia-Pacific in Atlanta, GA. Debbie and her husband have one daughter, Leslie and a son-in

-law, Andrew. They currently live in Colorado. Debbie is involved in domestic & International

sales, shipping and product development. She is often mistaken for the cooking queen Paula

Dean. So when you meet her, please don’t ask for her autograph.

Kellett in May 2007. After graduating from college with a degree in Marketing and Retail Manage-

ment, Terry has accumulated more than 22 years experience in sales, management, and customer

service with the retail and industrial sector. He manages both the industrial and retail sales at Kel-

lett. He lives in Williamston, SC with his wife, BeLinda. In his spare time, Terry enjoys music and

computer games. Recently, Terry became a Grandpa! His daughter gave birth to a beautiful baby

boy named Christopher.

Enterprises, Inc., in 2005. After attending Clemson University he began his career in the tex-

tile machinery and manufacturing industry. Due to his international travel and exposure to

different types of manufacturing machinery and processes, he has extensive involvement in

adult son, Andy, who lives in Reno, NV. He enjoys camping, scuba diving, collecting old South-
