Spring Is Here!!

So, I am sitting here watching the very last bit of snow melt from my back porch. The pond is about 50% ice out and it is 61 degrees. The leaves that I did not get gathered up last year are mush on the ground and I am hoping for some drying time to get them collected and disposed of. This is the year I will remember feeling -31 degrees for the first time in my life and I put more hours behind my snowblower than I did in my boat last year. Don’t intend to do either again. Hey, life is not always good, but something good happens every day and that is worth getting up and seeing it happen. I have so much content to cover in this newsletter. It is promising to be a busy year this year.

Orland “Oze” Osen (1938-2019)

Let me tell you about my friend Oze. I know for a fact that many of you considered Oze your friend as well. If you didn’t have the pleasure of meeting this guy, I am sorry for what you missed out on. I first met Oze when I had the pleasure of being invited to shoot the Tuesday Trap League with the Snap Shooters team. I got to meet Brian, Doug, Jeff, Steve, Wayne and of course Oze. Here was a guy that was close to the same age as my father and I took an instant liking to him. We would talk guns all the time and make each other laugh every

chance we got. I got a kick out of him forgetting his hat for Trap shooting every now and then, so I always made sure I had an extra in the truck just in case. I had three good years of shooting with Oze and we even won our first trophy in the A division one year before he quit shooting with us. Even though he wasn’t shooting Trap these last few years, he was still at the club to see his friends. Oze also gave in to the pressure we can put on a person and did four more years on the Board of Directors at Beaverbrook. His gentle wisdom was always needed during our board meetings and his support of our Range Expansion was crucial to the growth of our club. He loved this club and the friends it brought into his life. It would be an understatement to say I am saddened at the loss of my Friend. He was a good-hearted man who always made you laugh and smile. I just know he is holding a slot for me on his Trap Team when I join him and we can pick up where we left off. Godspeed Oze. I love you Brother. If you would like to say goodbye to Oze, service information is available here. http://www.startribune.com/obituaries/detail/0000304826/

Club Membership

What can I say? The plan is working. Our club has experienced unprecedented growth over the last five years and Beaverbrook is one of the most popular Gun Clubs in the Metro area. This year we will top out at about 950 members. Beaverbrook has decided to carefully manage our growth and we are currently limiting new members to 150 a year. With that, we have already reached our limit for the year and the new member orientation class is booked up to June 2019. We have closed down the new membership application process until January 2020. If you know someone who wants to join the club, tell them to watch for the membership application to go online in December for the January 2020 Orientation Class.

Public Shooting on Trap/Rifle/Pistol Range: We are continuing our expanded public shooting again this year on April 3rd. The range will be open to the public between 12PM and 5PM on Tuesday and Wednesdays. We will also be open as usual 11PM to 5PM on Sundays. If you know someone who would like to do some shooting but doesn’t want to commit to a club membership, let them know they are welcome at Beaverbrook during these times.

Rifle Range Covered Shooting Positions

With the ground thawing like it is, don’t be surprised to see the new rifle ranges roped off as we get ready to pour concrete under the covered shooting positions. This marks the end of our current range expansion project. I am sure you will enjoy the results.

Stop the Bleed Training

As new members join our club we often benefit from the training and experience that they bring to the club. That is especially true with our new member Barbie Drake and Eric Senf. Barbie brings years of EMT experience as well as being a Certified Instructor for the Stop the Bleed program. Barbie and Eric have offered to share their knowledge and experience with the club and Beaverbrook has decided to accept their generous offer. We will be hosting four Stop the Bleed training courses over the next year. This is a chance for Beaverbrook members to learn life saving techniques in the event of serious injury. Knowing how, when and where to apply tourniquets, treat wounds and keep people alive until emergency medical support arrives can be crucial. The classes will be limited to 20 people on a first come first serve basis. If you are interested in participating in this training, send an email to [email protected] and we will let you know when the classes are scheduled and put you on the list to receive the training. Beaverbrook will cover the cost of the training and all you have to do is attend. After taking this training, I purchased a control the bleed kit and a couple of tourniquets to put in my range bag. To me it is that important. I hope I never have to use them, but I am glad that I have it available just in case.

Trap Shooting Winter Trap League 2018-2019

Man, this was a fun league this year. Stepping out there when the weather was not so conducive to accurate shooting and still enjoying the camaraderie with those who are just as miserable as you are made it even more special. We even put on the first Winter

Skeet League which only promises to keep on growing. Below are the results of the League and I am quite proud of the fact I made the Division 1 Champion nervous. I will get you next year Troy (P.S. I got more 25s than you 😊😊). Wait until you see the Quilt donated by Carol. You will be So Jealous of Ted for winning it. Carol Mueller’s sons (Chris and Matt) both shot the Winter League this year and she wanted to do something nice for the League. This Quilt is called “Up North” and Carol donated it as a special prize for the league. It is amazing!

Fall Trap League

I know it has been a long time since the 2018 Fall Trap League, but I am not able to report their results in time for the Fall newsletter. It was a great league and a really nice banquet. Beaverbrook is the place to enjoy Trap Shooting…that’s for sure.

Twin Cities Action Shooting-IDPA/Multi-Gun Matches

If you are someone who likes to carry concealed or just want to see if you can be accurate and safe with your hand gun while shooting challenging scenarios, then the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) matches may be for you. Twin Cities Action Shooting hosts at least one pistol match each month at Beaverbrook. They also host 2Gun (Rifle/Pistol) matches. The stages are fun and challenging and the people are some of the friendliest you will ever meet. Go to http://www.twincitiesidpa.com for schedule and new shooter information.

United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) Matches:

Metro Area Practical Shooting Association (MAPSA) has decided to move their club matches to Beaverbrook. Formerly based out of Pine Island, this club will be holding a match on the 2nd Saturday of each month from April through October. They will normally be using 4-5 of the pistol bays to hold their matches. Stop by their website for more information on the club and the matches they put on. http://www.mapsa-uspsa.com/
