Programme Ideas

1. Find out about different carnivals around the world:

a. Brazil - Rio de Janeiro Carnival b. Italy – Carnevale di Venezia c. New Orleans, USA – Mardi Gras

2. Setup up some carnival themed relay races: Relay race booth (hula hoops and balls) Use hula hoops to draw a path on the floor for participants. At the start, Beavers must place a ball between their legs. They must hop in each hula hoop and then hop back to the starting line and give the ball to the next player. Green pea race booth Determine a start and finish line. Place a bowl filled with frozen peas and a spoon at the start line. At the finish line, deposit an empty bowl. Beavers must pick up one green pea with the spoon and carry it to the other bowl without dropping it. At the finish line, they drop the pea in the other bowl. You may decide to give each Beaver 2 minutes during which they can go back and forth between the bowls as many times as possible. When the time is up, count how many peas each Beaver was able to transfer to the second bowl. Balloon pop booth Inflate several balloons ahead of time. Tie a piece of ribbon to each balloon and use this ribbon to tie a balloon around each player's ankle. Outline a playing area with tape. Two players at time, Beavers try to pop the other Beaver’s balloon with their foot. Capture the scarf booth Outline a playing area using tape. Two players stand within this area. Each Beaver tucks the tip of a scarf in the back of their trousers. Start a timer. Beavers must try to steal the other Beaver’s scarf before the time is up. 3. Carnival Mask – let Beavers create their own magnificent mask using the template in

this pack or other templates online. Make them sparkle with lots of colour, glitter etc.
