“Part of Me” is a song by the American recording
artist Katy Perry, taken from the re-release of her
second studio album, Teenage Dream: the Complete
Confection. The song was written by Katy Perry,
Bonnie McKee, Max Martin and Lukasz Gottwalk,
while the song was produced by Dr.Luke and Cirkut.
In late 2010, the entire demo of the song was leaked
online; critics speculated that the lyrics were written
about the singer’s ex-boyfriend Travis McCoy. It was
re-worked and officially released on February 13th,
2012, with Capitol Records. The artwork for the song
was created by the photographer Mary Ellen Mat-
thews. “Part of Me” draws influences from several gen-
res including dance-pop and pop-rock. The composi-
tion infuses elements from house music although its
lyrics seem to be about a dramatic break-up.

nothing to do with
Russell”
The song received mixed to generally positive re-views, who assumed the lyrics were addressing Katy Perry’s divorce with violent Russell Brand, despite this the singer denied these allegations, stating that “It was written in early 2010, This has nothing to do with Russell”. Overall, considering the personal re-views and message behind the song and lyrics “Part of Me” was success commercially as it appeared at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United Kingdom and Canada.
