The teachings are expressed as eight

Each beatitude consists of two
phrases:
*the condition *the result2

beatitude comes from the Latin adjective ‘beatus’ which means happy, fortunate, or blissful

*We must have a recognition of our unworthiness before God before we can accept
His salvation.

As we empty our lives of human pride and self-assurance, we bow before our God and humbly
submit to his will.

The 2nd Beatitude starts the filling process, allowing us to receive the blessings of God.

The Greek word for Mourn is 'pentheo' the strongest word for loss

your own bitter experiences in life.1
![Page 19: Beatitude no.2.1](https://reader037.vdocuments.site/reader037/viewer/2022110307/555a9ce8d8b42a991b8b51c4/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
sad circumstances in the world (poverty, unemployment, war,
disease, etc.)2
![Page 20: Beatitude no.2.1](https://reader037.vdocuments.site/reader037/viewer/2022110307/555a9ce8d8b42a991b8b51c4/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
If I am crying/sad
about the sin in my life – I should be
happy. Why? ?
![Page 21: Beatitude no.2.1](https://reader037.vdocuments.site/reader037/viewer/2022110307/555a9ce8d8b42a991b8b51c4/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
*Taking the sin in my life seriously. actively concerned about it.
![Page 22: Beatitude no.2.1](https://reader037.vdocuments.site/reader037/viewer/2022110307/555a9ce8d8b42a991b8b51c4/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
If I ignore the sin in my life, that means I don’t want to deal with it. But if I cry/sad about it that means I have looked at it, and I see
the seriousness of the situation!
![Page 23: Beatitude no.2.1](https://reader037.vdocuments.site/reader037/viewer/2022110307/555a9ce8d8b42a991b8b51c4/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
If I cry/sad about it that means that I realise how much it affects me, my relationship with God, my relationship with others and I
need to do something about it. I need to repent.
![Page 24: Beatitude no.2.1](https://reader037.vdocuments.site/reader037/viewer/2022110307/555a9ce8d8b42a991b8b51c4/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
Crying can be the start of a process, it is not a human weakness
![Page 25: Beatitude no.2.1](https://reader037.vdocuments.site/reader037/viewer/2022110307/555a9ce8d8b42a991b8b51c4/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
The mourning of our short comings compliments
the 1st beatitude.
![Page 26: Beatitude no.2.1](https://reader037.vdocuments.site/reader037/viewer/2022110307/555a9ce8d8b42a991b8b51c4/html5/thumbnails/26.jpg)
We can’t truly repent without godly sorrow, how do I know?
![Page 27: Beatitude no.2.1](https://reader037.vdocuments.site/reader037/viewer/2022110307/555a9ce8d8b42a991b8b51c4/html5/thumbnails/27.jpg)
‘Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow
brings death.’
2Cor 7:10

The blessing is not upon
all that mourn, but upon
those who mourn in reference to sin.
![Page 29: Beatitude no.2.1](https://reader037.vdocuments.site/reader037/viewer/2022110307/555a9ce8d8b42a991b8b51c4/html5/thumbnails/29.jpg)
Where is the comfort?
![Page 30: Beatitude no.2.1](https://reader037.vdocuments.site/reader037/viewer/2022110307/555a9ce8d8b42a991b8b51c4/html5/thumbnails/30.jpg)
we know he understands pain & mourning

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor
pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
Revelation 21:4

"If we believe that God's grace and sovereignty is greater than any loss or disappointment, we, too, can experience
joy in the midst of sorrow."'CAREY KINSOLVING'

The big Q.
When with the consequences of our sin and the suffering of living in a fallen world, do we harden our and become a cynical or open our up by crying out to God for help and comfort?
