Wes and Alta met in Chile, South America where they were involvedin missionary activities, Alta in the Southern zone with the Huntleyand Mick families and Wes with his parents in the Northern zone. They were married in June of 1969 residing in Meridian, Mississippiwhere Wes attended college. After a term of service with the U.S.Army they moved to Jackson, Mississippi where.Wes graduated fromMississippi College with a B.A. in English. ^'Alta is a graduateof Great Lakes Bible College in Lansing, Mi^6fiigan having received

Hhe B.A. Ministerial. Wes and Alta have two children: JonathanRichard, born August 7, 1972 and Adam Wesley, born March 20, 1974.

' The Southwest Christian Church of Jackson, Mississippi is sending'the Beasleys, as its missionaries, to do this work of Bible Transla-tion having seen the need of the thousands in Bibleless tribes

• throughout the world. Larry and Dottie Tanksley, members of thechurch are serving as forwarding agents.

WHY-BIBLE TRANSLATORS??

O^There are more than 2,000 languages representing some 200,000,000people which have never been analyzed enough, or at all, to havethe scriptures in that language. These are often isolated, prima-tive, minority groups. Some of them have heard portions of theGospel as missionaries pass through but none have God's Word printedin their own heart language. Many feel God does not speak theirlanguage. JTm, work, of a Bible translator is to learn one of thesejunwritten languages, analyze its grammar, prepare an alphabet, give/it a written form, teach the people to read their language, andi^translate the Bible into that language.

PIONEER BIBLE TRANSLATORS was formed in 1974

to recruit Christian workers to fill thisurgent need. It is a ministry supported bythe Christian Churches and Churches of Christ,There are now four families serving with PBTin Papua, New Guinea, three as translatorsand one as support personnel. There are several PBT recruits in training, some of whomwill be ready to go to the field by the firstof 1979.

What's happening? SUMMER 1978

We moved to Dallas, Texas in January of this year to begin our linguistic studies at the International Linguistic Center for WycliffeBible Translators. We live in the dormitory which houses both married and single students. We completed our first term of studies inMay which included Phonetics, Phonology, and Grammar. Jonathan, whowill be six in August and Adam, who was four in March, were well-cared for during our classes and study time at the excellent child-care facility on campus. Jonathan completed kindergarten and isready for first grade this Fall. Adam will continue in the child-care center. They are busy this Summer with a fun schedule whichincludes visits to the zoos, parks, library, and other interesting

places, while Mom and Dad pore over the Greek books. This Summer we are taking Greek I, an eight semesterhour course completed in eight weeks. To say the

least, we are seldom away from the classroom or our desks. The Lordhas blessed us greatly with health and grace to complete the course. Please pray for us.

The last week of August we will begin our second semester of linguistic studies which, will include more Grammar and Phonology alongwith Semantics and Ethnology, and we will begin our final semesterof linguistics in January. We may have to move off campus this Fallas the first semester students have priority in the dormitory andregistrations are already above those of last year. During theSummer of 1979 we will take our second semester of Greek and thenbe ready for Jungle Training and Survival Camp in the Fall. Thereare lots of exciting and busy times ahead and we become more andmore anxious to go. But we know these preparations are necessaryand ask for your prayers for patience and endurance.

PRAYER NEEDS:1. continued health and strength to finish our training2. housing, if it becomes necessary for us to move off campus3. Pioneer Bible Translators

4. missionaries already In Papua, New Guinea. 5. the tribe with whom we will some day work, translating God's Word

into their language6. that God will be raising up a language helper now from that tribe

who will come to accept Christ early7. for more churches and recruits to answer the call for the urgent

need of Bible translators for Bibleless tribes

Please send along with this form copies of recommendations from churches which will encourageother churches to support your missionary work. There are churches which will not allow avisiting missionary to speak unless a church recommendation can be shown. Since it is impossible for any one person to know all Christians in the world, this recommendation by a responsible New Testament church is a vital help in persuading others of your worthiness and the valueof your mission. Mission Services stands ready to help you inform HORIZONS readers aboutyour church recommendations. Since the church is sending you to the mission field (Acts 13:1-3)and will help provide the necessary needs on the field, naturally the church should share thecredit in your missionary ministry. One of the ways that the church can do this is to share theirconviction regarding your missionary ministry with others. Certainly, their words will helpconvince others regarding the worthiness of your work. Please help MISSION SERVICES tospread your news through HORIZONS, Packets and Slide libmry by sending^^ur cTiurch recoiiP ~mendations as soon as possible. Thanks. of Cilery Son^ue To most of the indigenous peoples•••Wl %.WW1 .W of Papua New Guinea, the idea of

^ sacrifice to appease god(s) is famil-

9llli Uil*fb6 iar. However, they are unaware that® ^irl IRfW qqjJ already received the one sacrificethat is needed in the broken body of His Son,

3IIII Jesus the Christ. In one of the 722 tribes ofPapua New Guinea, the people seek to appease

|£3||Q||^00 the god of the forest i^'henever they cut lumberto build a new house. When the post holes have

Rev.5:9 been dug and when the first corner post is readyto be put in place, a baby girl is dropped into the

hole as a sacrifice to the forest god and killed by the crushing weight of the first pole falling into place. In Christ,we have redemption and forgiveness of sins (Col. 1:14), andwhere these have been forgiven, there is no longer any sacrifice for sin (Heb. 10:18)! Praise God, now He desires livingsacrifices which REMAIN ALIVE for Him (Rom. 12:1,2)! However, most of the indigenous language groups do not have this goodnews in their heart language. They continue to live in fearof His wrath and in ignorance of His love.
