    SHOKT REPORT ON A LONG TOUR

    We l e f t Long Beach, Cal i f , on Apr i l 28in our Volkswagen M ic ro bu s, a nd re turned onJuly 9, a f t e r t r ave l l ing about 10,300miles . We had speaking appointments ineight churches during t ha t time. Gif ts andoffer ings from those churches an d from ind i v i d u a l s came t o 920 .98 .     we were away f ro m home, four were spent inmotels . We s tayed in the homes of s i x r e la ti v es f o r a t o t a l o f 29 n i t s Othe r swho hospi tab ly received us fo r 1 , 2 o r 3nights were 23 persons an d 3 Bible Colleges. All were most gracious t o receiveu s , provide fo r o ur n ee ds , an d send us ono u r way r e j o i c i n g .

    We drove nor th t h rough C a l i f o r n i a ,which was b e a u t i f u l i n s p r i n g c o l o r s , t henon t o Oregon, where we spent a week withdaughter Ruth Root an d family. In S e a t t l ewe s tayed 3 days with Mrs. J imenez, daugh -t e r o f t h e l a t e P a s t o r Peneyra o f Apar r i -After 4 days in B r i t i s h Columbia we hur r i edt o F a i r f i e l d , Nebraska , where we s p e n t aLord s Day. Then on t o Vi rg in i a , where wespen t 11 enjoyable days with o ur d au gh terMartha, h e r husband David Van Wormer, andAbigai l Joy, who was j u s t l ea rn ing t o walk.

    Kagoshima Bay t o Kanoya with a stop inTa r u m i z u f o r s u p p e r .Fr iday the Maxeys took us t o places a -

    round Kanoya. We saw the church camp int h e mountains , t h e l i t t l e church a t Kush i -r a , and th e h i l l with th e fox s h r i n e andth e s ple nd id view from t h e summit. S a t u rda y in Kagoshima City we saw the monumentst o F r a n c i s Xavie r, t h e f i r s t C h r i s t i a n m issionary t o Japan. Sunday was a busy day,w it h f o u r c h u r c h s e r v i c e s . F i r s t t h e l e p e rcolony, then the church in Kanoya. In thea f t e r n o o n we went t o Sueyosh i , and from

    there t o Kagoshima Ci ty. Here we met Wa lt e r Mark Maxey and h i s wife and tw o c h i l dren , an d had supper w ith them. Then theevening church se rv i ce i n the Yoshinoc h u r c h in t h e i r h o u s e .
