Bear & Whale Watching Interpretive Guide – Full-time (Seasonal)

Location: Glendale Cove, Knight Inlet, BC

Duties & Responsibilities: Weareseekinghighlymotivatedindividualswithexceptionalwildernessguiding,naturalhistoryinterpretation,andcommunicationskillstobecomeakeypartoftheteamindeliveringworld-classwildlifeviewingexperiencesatKnightInletLodge.

TheGuide’sprimaryobjectiveisinprovidingourgueststheopportunitytoviewandphotographwildlife,withanemphasisonsafety,andnaturalhistoryinterpretation.

Youwillberesponsibleforarangeofguidingdutiesintegraltodeliveringguestexperiences,including:

• careforguestsafetyandcomfort,includingtheaesthetic,safetyandfunctionoflodgeinfrastructureandequipment;

• maintainingpositiveinteractionswithguestsandco-workersthroughouttheday,includingatmealtimesandduringunscheduledperiods;

• supportingotherstaffintheirjobresponsibilitieswhenrequired;• participationinon-goinggrizzlybearresearchprojectssponsoredbyKnightInletLodge.

Required Skills, Certifications & Personality Characteristics Preferencewillbegiventoexperiencedguidesabletocommittotheentireseason(mid-Maytomid-October)andareinterestedinworkingmultipleseasons.

Required Certifications;

• CurrentWildernessFirstAidwithLevelCCPR&AEDcertificationorequivelent;• CommercialSmallVesselOperator'sProficiencycertificate(SVOP);• MarineEmergencyDutiesA3(MEDA3);• RestrictedOperatorsCertificateMarine(ROC-M);• SeaKayakDayGuideand/orInstructorCertification;

Note:Candidateswithsomeoftheabovenotedandorotherrelevantcertificationsaswellastheappropriatewildernessleadershipandinterpersonalskills whoarewillingtogettherequiredcertificationmaybeconsidered.

Abackgroundinbiologyisalwaysanasset.Youwillbeexpectedtolearnandretainpertinentbackgroundmaterialprovidedforpresentationtoguests.Publicspeakingexperienceishelpful,youneedtoeffectivelycommunicatewithguestsandprovideengagingeveningpresentations.Secondlanguageskillsarealsoanasset. Youshouldbe;

• familiarwithoutdooradventuresettings(includingguestandstaffneeds);

• becomfortableinadynamicteamenvironmentwithfrequentguestinteractions;

• bewellgroomed,courteous,honest,andmostimportant,reliable;

• flexibleandaccommodatingwithyourapproachtointeractingwithothers;

• solution-orientedwithacollaborativeapproachtotasksandrelationships.
