CROSS COUNTRY FUN HUNT Bring the FUN HUNT to YOU!!
Our Host Jordan Francis! We’re going on an amazing road trip to hunt for the FUNNEST PLACES, and the FUNNEST PEOPLE in CANADA, and kids are
in the driver’s seat!
The CROSS COUNTRY FUN HUNT will start as an online community where kids can create a profile
and nominate an awesome place/activity in their home town or neighborhood for our celebrity
host (Jordan Francis) to visit. You may recognize Jordan from Camp Rock 2 and Connor Under-
cover!
The show will get kids thinking about what makes their home town or neighbourhood special:
Does it have an attraction or landmark like no other in the country? Is there an interesting activi-
ty people do in their town, or a unique local festival? Does their town have an amazing natural
wonder or wild animals that cannot be seen elsewhere? Is it home to a restaurant which creat-
ed a special local dish?
Kids will make and post videos on our website showcasing their home towns. Members of our online community will be
able to “virtually tour” the country and learn about all of the fun things they can do across Canada!
When the FUN HUNT VAN hits the road this summer, kids will actually get to vote online to decide where our host goes
and what activities they do along the way! Kids will be able to log on to our website to follow Jordan and the FUN HUNT
VAN as it makes its way across the country visiting fun places and fun people along the way! Real-time webisodes will
document Jordan’s epic journey as it unfolds day by day!
At the end of the road trip, our host’s adventures with kids across the country will be turned into a television series which
will air on CBC this Fall!
And finally, viewers will then vote on which town or neighborhood they think is the “FUNNEST PLACE IN CANADA”. The
town chosen as the FUNNEST PLACE will be treated to a live concert with our celebrity host (and special guests) which will
be televised as the CROSS COUNTRY FUN HUNT grand finale!
The FUN HUNT could be coming to you this SUMMER!!

Cross Country Fun Hunt Video Guidelines and Tips!
YOUR VIDEO SHOULD: Be no longer than 2 minutes.
Tell us a bit about yourself (your name, age and why the Fun Hunt should come to your town or neighbour-
hood!)
Tell us what fun activity or activities we could do in your town or neighbourhood if our host (Jordan Francis!!)

Tell us about the people you want to do the activities with! Why are you and your friends so awesome?
HOW TO MAKE AN AWESOME VIDEO: Show your personality! Don’t be shy - nothing is too silly for us - be creative!
Keep the camcorder, smart phone, or webcam steady.
Make sure you shoot with as much light as you can on your subjects.
Make sure we hear you well (watch for background noise) and speak clearly.

festivals, restaurants, special things that only your town has, something arty, something geeky, something with
animals - really anything that you have a great time doing! Remember it’s all about having fun!

Peer Learning Program for Adults 50+
The Community Learning Centre at LRHS is pleased to offer an exciting new opportunity for seniors in the Low-
er Laurentians: Curiosity Never Retires
We are partnering with the McGill Community for Lifelong Learning (MCLL) and the Quebec Association for
Lifelong Learning (QALL) to bring their peer learning program to the Lachute Area.
One of the wonderful opportunities provided in later life is having the time for growth. After many years in your chosen profession or spent in caring for others, you may have decided on a change of direction or feel a need for intellectual stimulation. Maybe you want to ex-plore new fields. Perhaps you would like to share your accumulated knowledge and experi-
ence with others.
Curiosity Never Retires offers you the opportunity to do all this. MCLL is a community of mature learners where the emphasis is placed on "peer learning" through participation in self-directed study groups of 10 to 20 members. Active participation rather than passive lis-tening is encouraged. The groups are led informally by peer moderators who are themselves members of the community. There are no educational prerequisites, no age limitations, no exams and no
grades. The cost is low.
Over eight, two-hour sessions, participants will examine a topic in depth. Each member will research and collect information on a specific aspect of the topic. Participants will then take turns sharing their findings with the group. On average, two members will present per session. The length of the presentations should be no more than
20-25 minutes, which allows for questions and discussion afterward.
Our first session is on April 24th, from 1-3 PM at Laurentian Regional High School, 448 Argenteuil Ave., in
Lachute.
To register, or for more information, please contact Tim Foreman at (450) 562-8571, ext. 8449. You can also
sign up online and help us to pick out first topic. Visit: www.surveymonkey.com/s/NL8BXQ2

L RHS Hockey Trip to Buffalo
All SWLSB parents are invited to a free conference evening on the theme of Youth Mental
Health and Anxiety: Thursday, April 26 from 6 pm to 9:15 pm at Rosemere High School
Expert speakers will present short sessions on keys topics including Depression/Anxiety in our chil-dren, Parenting children with behavior challenges, Mental illness and addiction, Suicide & Adoles-cence, Bullying and the effect on children’s mental health as well as Youth Eating Disorders and Nutrition for Mental health. Information and sign up forms will be sent home to all parents in early April - don't miss this informative evening on children's mental health.
This conference night is organized by the SWLSB Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) and SWLSB Complementary Services Department.
On February 8th the students and coaches of the LRHS Intensive Hockey Option packed their skates, hockey bags, and
hockey sticks, and boarded a coach bus to head to Buffalo, Rochester, Niagara Falls, and Ste. Catherines for a 6-day hockey trip.
The teams played a total of six games, winning four of them. In addition to playing hockey, the students visited Canisius College
where they got a tour of the sports facilities and attended an information session given by the coaches. There was a tour of the
First Niagara Center, home of the Buffalo Sabres, as well as attending a Montreal Canadiens practice. A highlight of the trip was
when P.K. Subban and some of the other Canadiens joined the excited students for some autographs. Some lucky students even got
sticks from the Habs players. Later, our students were again surprised to find the Canadiens coaching staff having dinner at the
same restaurant—another opportunity for pictures and autographs. Later that night our young hockey players watched the Canadi-
ens win in a shoot out against the Buffalo Sabres. The students also visited the Rochester Arena where they got a tour and
watched the Hamilton Bulldogs beat the Rochester Americans. The teams even got ice time from the Sabres to make sure they
could practice and stay in shape.
The students also enjoyed shopping in Rochester and visiting the Hershey Chocolate Factory. The visit to Niagara Falls
left the students especially amazed.
Review of the Wizard
Written by Katharine Morrill and J. Goerner
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz proved to be a true masterpiece thanks to director Miss Noble,
and assistant directors Mrs. Goerner and Miss Chang. The cast and crew consisted of students from
Secondary 1 to Secondary 5, who worked very hard to bring the story to life. This year, like many
other years, Mrs. MacDonald created original and brilliant costumes for our actors.
Our cast did a brilliant job of reenacting the famous story of Dorothy being swept away to the
magical land of Oz. The Wizard’s face was projected onto a screen, making it seem all the more real-
istic. Laurentian Regional is extremely proud of our production, and we hope to see many of you come
back to the next production in Spring 2013.
