Beam Dyslexia Risk Assessment: Protecting Against Coronavirus The following safety measures have been put in place in order to minimize the risk of

infection and transmission of coronavirus to students attending Beam Dyslexia premises for

lessons and assessments. This risk assessment will be regularly reviewed and updated in

order to ensure continued compliance with current government guidelines.

Arriving at and leaving the premises • Parents are politely requested to keep to their allocated drop off and collection times as

far as possible in order to avoid the risk of contact between clients from different

households and to allow sufficient time for facilities to be cleaned and disinfected between

visits

• There will currently be no facility for parents to wait inside the premises whilst lessons or

assessments are ongoing, however parents are most welcome to wait in their car on the

driveway or to use the seating in the rear garden

• Children and young people will be asked to wash their hands for 20 seconds in a private

cloakroom using soap and warm water. Best hand-washing practise will be modelled and

supported with visual instructions. Disposable paper towels will be used for hand drying

Teaching Sessions and Assessments at Beam Dyslexia • A specific, private and well ventilated study room is used for teaching and assessment

• Children and young people will have their own private, sealed resource pack containing

the generic resources needed for each lesson. Shared resources will be kept to a

minimum and will be cleaned and disinfected between lessons

• Practical materials used for assessment will be cleaned and disinfected before use. Some

assessment tasks may require gloves to be worn. In such cases the individual being

assessed will be provided with gloves and asked to dispose of these after leaving

• A distance of 1 metre will be observed during lessons and assessments. Myself and your

child will sit either beside or at right angles to one another, with a hygiene screen

available for use upon request. In the case of assessments, individuals will be seated

according to test instructions (where applicable), with a hygiene screen in place

• Children and young people are requested to bring with them a water bottle in order to help

to maintain concentration levels

• Children from different households will not mix within the study space at Beam Dyslexia

and so on-site teaching will be on a one-to-one basis only

• Good respiratory hygiene will be ensured by promoting the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach.

Tissues are readily available and will be immediately disposed of in a pedal bin

• After using a tissue, hands will either be washed or will be sanitised with an alcohol-based

hand sanitiser, ensuring that all parts of the hands and wrists are covered

• Private toilet facilities are available for use during lessons and assessments. These will be

cleaned and disinfected with bleach between visits by those from different households

• To ensure effective infection and protection control, individuals who have coronavirus

(COVID-19) symptoms, or who have someone in their household who does or have been

advised by NHS Test & Trace to self-isolate, must not attend the setting

• If a child becomes unwell during a lesson or assessment with a new, continuous cough,

high temperature or has a loss of or change in their normal sense of taste or smell,

parents will be telephoned immediately so that the child may be taken home to self-isolate

for at least 7 days whilst a test is arranged to find out whether they have coronavirus

(COVID-19)

Cleaning & Hygiene • Frequently touched surfaces will be cleaned and disinfected between lessons, using

standard products such as detergents and bleach

Communication with Parents • Communication with parents will be via digital technology in order to minimise face-to-face

contact at this time

Off-site teaching and assessment • Full compliance with safety measures is assured in the case of teaching and assessment

undertaken in schools, in accordance with the risk assessments produced by those

settings

I hope that the information outlined above will reassure you of my commitment to do all that I

can to safeguard your child’s health and safety. Please get in touch if you would like any

additional information.
