Emergency Stop Relay BD 5987 complies fully with the requirementsof the Standard Specifications referred to on page X. The unit ishoused in a compact 45 mm case suitable for DIN rail mounting and isavailable in a wide range of auxiliary voltages. It differs from BN 5983described previously in that it employs failsafe electronic circuitry forthe self checking function and is limited to 2 N/O output contacts.Otherwise the principle of operation is the same.

The OFF and the EMERGENCY STOP buttons are connected in seriesbetween terminals S33 and S12/S22.The On/Reset button isconnected between terminals Y2 and S22, or S12. The auxiliarysupply is connected to terminals A1(+) and A2 (–).The circuits to betripped may be connected to terminals 13–14 and 23–24. When theEMERGENCY STOP button is activated power is removed fromterminals S12/S22, relays K2 and K3 are de-energised and contacts13–14 and 23–24 open. BD 5987.02 is equipped with short circuitmonitoring of the On/Reset button, this relay is suitable for up toCategory 3 and manual restart applications only. BD 5987.02/001 isequipped with cross fault monitoring of the stop button circuit, and issuitable for up to Category 4 and auto restart applications.

The relay is equipped with three green LEDs. When illuminated theyindicate the healthy condition of the auxiliary supply and circuitsK2 - K3.

If additional switching contacts are required then Relay BD 5987 maybe used with extension module Type BG/LG 5929 / BN 3081 (see text).Should a timed delayed release contact be required then BD 5987 maybe used with time delay modules BG 7925 / BG 7926 / IL 7824 / IN 7824/ BA 7924 (see diag 5/ 6). Model BD 5987 can be used with protectiveguards/screens and an insulation monitoring relay may be connectedto monitor PE(-) to ground.

NB: When BD 5987.02/001 is used in automatic reset mode, there willbe a 900 ms delay on restart.
