• Once goods are cleared all duties and taxes must be paid to the Canadian Government

before the goods can be removed from the airport or port, unless you are being represented

by a broker or freight forwarder

• Duties and Taxes are calculated based on Cost Insurance and Freight (CIF) value of the

goods and the harmonized classification code (H.S.) of each distinct product

• Goods and Service Tax (GST) B3 is 5% based on the Canadian value of the goods. Applicable

to most industrialized products entering Canada.

• Air and Ocean Shipments can take as l ittle as 15 minutes to 1 hour to clear customs (due

to COVID-19 could change this)

• Customs In Canada is open 24 hours 7 days a week

• A Foreign company can be an Importer of record in Canada making DDP* shipments very

easy to handle for a foreign company

• When cargo is inspected it can take from 24 hours to 72 hours maximum (due to COVID-

19 could change this)
