COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS The BCA Has Lost Its Own HERO
Lateef Haskins, 37 years old and a 12 year member of Iron Workers Local 60 was
tragically killed in a construction accident this past November. A devoted
husband and father, he was the sole provider for his wife Jessica Eldred Haskins
and their three children. Lateef rescued the Poon Family from a horrific fire that destroyed their home in
2010 and was ceremoniously recognized by the Moyers Corners Fire Department
in August 2010. To help the Haskins with family expenses, friends are conducting a fund raising
benefit.
When: Sunday May 19th 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Where: International Building, on the New York State Fairgrounds We are asking area businesses and individuals for donations and or/or
contributions to help assure a successful benefit. Please join together with us to
help Mrs. Haskins and her children. More details on our website.

NUTRITION SITE MEAL: Come to the United Church of Christ in Bayberry for a great meal served by PEACE,
Inc. The meal is served every Friday at noon - the cost is a mere$2.75. The monthly menu is posted on our church
bulletin board. Just call PEACE by the preceding Wednesday at 470 - 3331 to sign up. You can also inquire about
the menu on the telephone. Our attendance reaches 30 on most Fridays. Some folks come early to play cards. Katie
Bloss, the Neighborhood Advisor for the Town of Clay, come the first Friday of every month. This is a great
opportunity to bring friends and to meet old friends.

Bayberry Entryway Flower Planting- On Sunday, May 19th, volunteers are needed to assist with the planting of the Blackberry Rd/ Rt 57 and
Blueberry Rd/John Glenn entrance planters. We will meet in the Plaza parking lot promptly at 8 am.

LOCAL UPDATES
TOWN AFFAIRS
Supervisor Ulatowski toured Bayberry with June Baycura and members of the Town Affairs committee
pointing out areas of concern. Some concerns were the poor drainage on many of the streets due in part to
the mode of the paving of the streets, the intersection of Huckleberry and Blueberry has been an area for
confusion for drivers and the placement of the crosswalk on Blackberry to Bayberry Plaza. The Supervisor
was asked to have the stop sign at the Deerfield/Forestbrook intersection to be replaced and asked for the
placement of a “Children at Play” sign at the green area on Bayberry Circle with the increase in young
children in the neighborhood. The Supervisor was very receptive and aware of some of these problems, and
was working with the Highway Department to make improvements.
The Michael’s Farm development on Morgan Road south of Fairway East has come to the Board with
revisions in the plan. The County has put a temporary moratorium on new projects north of the railroad
tracks on Morgan Road until the Oak Orchard Sewage Treatment Plant problems have be resolved.
SCHOOL AFFAIRS
Board of Education (BOE)
This year 2013-2014 Liverpool City School District (LCSD) faces a $9 million gap that would require
cutbacks equivalent to 100 positions. Dr Johns insists that the community take this money from reserves to
cover such cost, before implementing cutbacks that will limit students' opportunities. A video of the
Superintendent's Budget Proposal can be found at:www.liverpool.k12.ny.us The adopted budget will be
presented to the community for a vote on May 21 from 6pm-9pm at LHS gymnasium. Should you wish you
voice your concerns, a public hearing will be held on May 9 at 6:30pm.
The BOE is currently accepting nominating petitions for three open board seats. These board seats are
currently held by: Donald Cook, John J. Kennedy and David Watson. Petition forms to nominate candidates
for election to the BOE will be available in the Superintendent's Office, located in room 3 of the District
Office. Each nominating petition must state the name and residence of the candidate and be signed by at
least 44 qualified voters of the school district. For additional information contact: Superintendent's Office
