BC SUPERWEEK RULES & INFORMATION I Sign-on

Sign-on for the races commences 30 minutes before the race and closes 10 minutes prior to race start time, except for the Tour de White Rock Hill Climb where the riders start according to the start sheet.

II Safety Requirements

All entrants must wear a helmet that satisfies all CCA requirements. Helmets are mandatory at all times. Commissaires and organizers accept no responsibility for the conditions of the competitors’ bicycles before, during and after each event. Bikes and equipment are required to comply with UCI/CCA regulations.

III Neutral Mechanic

A mechanic is available each day to service bikes. It is your responsibility to ensure that your bike is in safe and proper working order after servicing by the mechanic.

IV Team Support

For White Rock, there will be neutral mechanic support on the road race route. However, it is your responsibility to supply a wheel identified by your Race Number. At the BC Superweek event, if a rider receives a “borrowed” wheel from the pits or service vehicle, it must be returned immediately after the rider’s race. All wheels can be claimed at the wheel pit or at the stage after each event, except the Tour de White Rock Road Race, where wheels can be picked up at the Museum. We do not accept responsibility for lost or damaged equipment.

V Feedings

Team Managers are responsible for any garbage that is left in the feed zone. A portable bathroom will be available for riders and volunteers manning the feeding station on the right-hand side of the road up from the feed station. Riders and volunteers who do not use the facilities provided will face the consequences set out by the Race Commissaires. Tour de White Rock Feed zones are located along Magdalen Avenue and will be designated by two red pylons on the right side of the road. Feeding is not permitted in the first 50km of the race, nor the last 20km. Feeding can begin after the fourth lap has been completed; men on laps 5-11 only; women on laps 5-7 only.

VI Mobile Camera & Race Vehicles

There will be officials on motorcycles, as well as film, TV and other media vehicles in close proximity to the cyclists at various times during the races. Riders should allow these vehicles to pass if/when necessary.

It shall be understood that any drafting or other advantage taken from such vehicles is illegal and will result in penalties and/or disqualification of any rider violating this rule, at the Chief Commissaire’s discretion. All riders are asked to co-operate fully with these vehicles, both for race safety and for optimum media coverage of this event. All vehicles are to obey the instructions of the Commissaires and respect the barrages (red flag or paddle).

BC SUPERWEEK POST RACE PROCEDURES

These steps will be undertaken in a business-like manner and racers will be excused as soon as possible. Please co-operate fully during this time as this is essential to the overall success of the event. AFTER FINISHING THE RACE For all BC Superweek Events: 1. Following the cool down lap in each race, media will be granted access to the top three finishers and any other

identified award winners at the start/finish area for interviews while results are being tabulated at their discretion.

2. Once called, those riders will report to the stage for on-stage announcer interviews and award ceremonies.

(Good public relations are important both for the racers and for the event.) 3. If necessary, those riders will make themselves available to media following on-stage presentations.

4. All awards will be presented immediately upon completion of the Men’s Pro Race. Therefore, top three in

each race must report behind the main stage and stay there until further instructions are given. 5. First, Second and Third place finishers will be required to provide a media interview on the awards podium

immediately following each race. 6. After your media interview, you will be required to provide brief interviews with the local press (5-10

minutes).

IT IS VITAL THAT YOU REMAIN IN THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY OF THE AWARDS STAGE FOLLOWING EACH RACE UNTIL MEDIA INTERVIEWS, AWARDS PRESENTATIONS AND AUTOGRAPHS ARE COMPLETE.

7. The awards for the top three finishers will be held at centre stage, immediately following each event. 8. Failure to adhere to Items 1-6 above will result in a $100.00 fine. 9. The roads will be opened IMMEDIATELY following the awards.

TECHNICAL REGULATIONS GENERAL REGULATIONS

1. All BC Superweek Events will run in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the CBC/CCC/UCI. The CBC/CCC/UCI scale of penalties shall apply.

2. All racers and support staff must be responsible for conforming to the rules governing the race. All participants should familiarize themselves with the established rules prior to the competition.

3. Any racers riding for a team other than their own club or team must obtain the necessary waivers. There will be no exceptions.

4. Junior Riders wishing to compete must present, at registration, a written upgrade letter from their Provincial Cycling Association.

5. An approved hard shell helmet shall be worn before and during all races.

6. Riders MUST sign-on for each race where riders are required to report to the start 15 minutes prior to their start time.

7. Licenses must be in good condition and must be available to the Chief Commissaire at registration.

8. Race numbers must be worn. Refer to page 27 for placement details.

9. It will be required that all racers pin their numbers on properly so that the numbers will be readily identifiable at the finish line. Numbers may not be folded, defaced or altered in any way. Riders are required to use the frame numbers for all the Road Race and Criterium stages. Should a number be lost, please report to the Chief Judge prior to the start of the race for a replacement. It is suggested by medical personnel that pertinent medical information be written on the back of one of your race numbers (e.g. name, age, medical issues & emergency contact number).

10. Any rider(s) that are lapped or in danger of being lapped by the lead group shall, at the Chief Commissaire's discretion, be eliminated from that race. Further details will be provided at the start of each event by the Chief Commissaire or starter.

11. All eliminated riders must withdraw from the race immediately upon being called out by the race official on the course. Failure to withdraw immediately will result in disciplinary action.

CRITERIUM EVENTS

1. Free lap rule in effect until last 5 laps. Free lap for recognized accidents only, namely punctures, breakage, and crashes certified by the Commissaire.

2. There will be primes throughout the event. A bell and an announcement will signify prime laps.

3. A bell will signify the last lap. The lapboard will show one lap to go.

4. If before the last 5 laps, two or more riders should lap the field, the field will sprint for final placing with 3 laps to go. The bell will sound at 4 laps for the group.

5. Lapped riders in the Criterium shall be eliminated upon being passed by the Lead Commissaire and must immediately leave the course.

6. The Neutral Support Pits will be located near the start/finish line at each event. All technical assistance must be carried out in the pit area. The pits are manned by race staff mechanics. Riders wishing to bring their own wheels must bring spare wheels which are clearly marked with your Wheel Service # to the pit area no later than 15 minutes prior to race time. In case of an accident, puncture, or legitimate mechanical malfunction, a racer will be allowed to rejoin the race group at the direction of the Commissaire located in the pits, in the position held at the time of the mishap after sitting out one (1) lap (see rule #1). A racer may not accept support from any other personnel except the neutral service personnel or team support (if applicable) in the designated pit area.

ROAD RACE EVENTS

1. Neutral support services will be provided. Spare wheels should be brought to the service vehicle by 7:30am on the morning of the event. All wheels must be marked with name of rider on both tire and rim.

2. Roads will be marshalled; however, they are not closed to public traffic.

3. A bell at the start/finish line will signify the last lap. The lapboard will show one lap to go.

4. Feed Area is located on Magdalen Avenue for Tour de White Rock, on riders' right. Feed only between pylons and on the right-hand side of the road. See specific race regulations in regards to feeding.

5. In the event that a rider overtakes another rider in a separate race the onus shall be on the overtaken rider to give way and fall back to avoid riding in company. An overtaking rider must pass on the left side as far apart as practical to road safety.

6. Riders from one event (i.e. Women's/Men's) must not ride with another event - it would be considered drafting.

7. For the men's race: Once the short circuit course is closed, all riders still on the long course shall be eliminated.

8. For the Tour de White Rock men’s race: Men will do 11 laps on the long course and 6 laps on the short course for a total of 134 kms (11 laps x 10.1 km) + (6 laps at 3.8 kms).
