Leverage of private investments is crucial!

The consortium own contribution in BBI JU projects consists of:

• In-kind contributions

The eligible costs incurred for implementing the project minus the funding requested from BBI JU

• Financial transfers

Financial transfers (in-cash) between partners of a BBI JU project to implement part of the action, outside the budget table of the project

• Additional investments

Investments (e.g. infrastructure, facilities, durable equipment, etc.) that contribute to achieving the objectives of the projects and the BBI JU initiative (maximize impact), outside the budget table of the project and not limited to the duration of the project.

Tips to write a good proposal (1/2)

• Address all requirements in a clear and convincing manner– Topic specific requirements

– General requirements: introduction & table 3 with standard requirements (LCAs, economic viability check, preservation of biodiversity, compliance with legislation, complementarity with other projects, etc)

• Provide appropriate benchmarking (e.g when comparing performance of new bio-based products with fossil counterparts)

• Quantify objectives and impacts when relevant (e.g. reduction carbon footprint)

• Industry commitment: give clear explanations on consortium own contribution, both quantitative and qualitative

• Check the AWP 2020 glossary for correct definitions

How to write a good BBI JU proposal (2/2)

• Think like an evaluator and write for an evaluator

– Consider which are the evaluation criteria, and make sure youaddress all of them

– Make sure all the requested information is clear and convincing

– Structure the information in a coherent manner

– Avoid standard – non proposal specific statements (e.gCommunication activities)

– Stick to page limits (50p for CSAs, 70p for RIA/IA)

– Check the information is consistent across the proposal (e.g. timing of WPs)

– Ensure the role of all beneficiaries is clear
