2013/2014 PRIDE T-Shirt Design Contest We invite all schools in the PRIDE region to participate in the 2013/2014 PRIDE t-shirt design contest. PRIDE wants to give your students the opportunity to create the PRIDE 2014 theme and design a t-shirt to use for the 2014 PRIDE Spring Cleanup events. This would be a fun activity to allow your students to be creative and express why personal responsibility is important to them and their community. The design should depict a catchy theme for PRIDE to use in 2014 to promote spring cleanup and be used for the 2014 PRIDE Spring Cleanup t-shirt. The winning design and theme will be featured by PRIDE in 2014. Each member who participates in the project will receive a Certificate of Participation from PRIDE. Contest Information:
Your club’s entry must be submitted with the “Entry Form” and post marked by October 18, 2013.
Please use the PRIDE t-shirt design sheets attached or you may use regular legal size paper to submit entries.
Please make sure each design has the student’s name and school at the top to ensure they receive a certificate of participation. We look forward to seeing your students’ ideas for the 2014 PRIDE Spring Cleanup Campaign! If you have any questions, please call the PRIDE office (606-677-6150).
Sep 19, 1994: U.S. forces land in Haiti On September 19, 1994, 20,000 U.S. troops land unopposed in Haiti to oversee the country's transition to democracy. In 1991, Roman Catholic priest Jean-Bertrand Aristide, the first freely elected leader in Haitian history, was deposed in a bloody military coup. He escaped to exile, and a three-man junta took power. In 1994, reacting to evidence of atrocities committed by Haiti's military dictators, the United Nations authorized the use of force to restore Aristide. On September 18, the eve of the American invasion, a diplomatic delegation led by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter brokered a last-minute agreement with Haiti's military to give up power. Bloodshed was prevented, and on October 15 Aristide returned. Aristide served as president until the expiration of his term in 1996. In 2000, he was again elected Haitian president in an election marked by violence and corruption. Aristide was again ousted from power in 2004 and remains in exile in South Africa.
