Section1:GeneralRules(allsports)

A)PersonalandTeamConduct

1. Participantsarerequiredtorepresentthemselvesandtheirrespectiveschoolswithrespectanddignity.2. Anyteamorindividualinvolvedindestructiveornegativebehaviorat

Post-SecondaryGames2011eventsorvenues,includinghotelsand

accommodations,willbeejectedfromthetournamentatthediscretionof

theAdvisoryCommittee.SpiritDepositsmayalsobeforfeited.

3. ThePSGCommitteereservestherighttodisqualifyanyteambasedonthebehaviorofanygiventeammemberofthatparticularteam.

4. Alcohol,smokingand/orotherbannedsubstancesarePROHIBITEDandarenottobeconsumedorusedinthedressingroomsoranywhereinthe

gymsorsurroundingareas.Failuretocomplywiththisrulewillresultintheexpulsionoftheplayer(s)fromtheTournamentandpossible

suspensionoftheteam(s).Arefereemayejectaplayer/teamif,athis/her

discretion,he/shedeemstheplayer/teamtobeundertheinfluenceof

alcoholorillegalsubstances.

B)StartingoftheGame

1. Arepresentativefromeachteam(coach/captain)isrequiredtocheck-inatthescoretablepriortoeachgame.Heretheymustfilloutgameroster

sheetsfullyandaccurately.

2. Itisrecommendedthatbothteamsbedressedandreadytoplay10minutesbeforethescheduledstartoftheirgame.Allgamesstartatthe

timepublishedintheschedule.

3. Alateteamwillbegivenagraceperiodoffive(5)minutespastthescheduledstarttime,whichwillbedeductedfromthetotalplayingtime.

4. Anyteamwithouttherequirednumberofplayerswithin5minutesofthescheduledtimewilldefaultthatgame.Ifanyteammemberisindoubt

abouttheireligibility,theyshouldspeakwiththeirteamcaptain/coach,

theScorekeeper,oranyoneonthePSGcommitteeimmediately.

5. Ifbothteamsarelate,bothwilldefaultandnopointswillbeawarded.6. TeamsdefaultingagameforanyreasonwillhavehalftheirSpiritDeposit

forfeited.

7. Ifplayers,teamofficials,gametimekeeper,etc.showupforagameinaconditionwhichintherefereesopinion,renderthemunabletotakepart,

therefereemaydefaultthegame.

8. Withrespecttodangerousplayingconditions,thedecisionofwhethertobeginorcontinueagameissolelythedecisionofthereferees.The

Commissionaireshallrescheduleagamepostponedforanyreasonatthe

earliestpossibletimepriortotheendoftheroundrobin.Ifmorethanonehalfremainstobeplayed,thentheentiregameshallbereplayed.Ifless

thanhalfremainstobeplayed,thenonlytheunfinishedportionofthe

gameshallbeplayed.

C)CoachesandCaptains

1. EachteammusthaveadesignatedTeamCaptainand/orCoach.2. ItistheresponsibilityofeachTeamCaptain/Coachtoensurethatall

playersoftheirteamarefullyeligibletoparticipate.

3. EachteammustidentifytheirTeamCaptainand/orCoachatthebeginningofeachgame.Ifthecaptainisnotpresent,theteamwill

nominateaplayertobeactingcaptainforthatgame.Thispersonwilltake

onalldutiesandresponsibilitiesastheactualcaptain.Thispersonwillbe

identifiedastheactingcaptainonthescoresheet.

4. ONLYTHECAPTAIN/COACHshouldbespeakingwiththerefereesduringthegametime.Playerswhowishtodiscussanyissuewitharefereemust

asktheCaptainorCoachtospeakontheirbehalf.

5. ItistheresponsibilityofeachTeamCaptain/Coachtofilloutthegamerostersheetfullybeforeeachgameandsignittoaffirmtheeligibilityand

informationofeachplayerontheroster.

6. TeamCaptainsandCoachareexpectedtoknowandunderstandthegeneralandspecificrulesfortheirsport.Theymustabidebythem,and

ensurethattheirteamisawareofthemandtheirconsequences.Ifthereis

anyconfusionregardingtherules,pleasecontactthePSGcommittee.

7. ItistheTeamCaptain'sandCoachsdutytoknowhis/herdutiesandresponsibilitiesbeforethegamebegins.

Section2:SpecificRules(5on5Basketball)

A)TeamsandPlayers

1. Ateammusthaveaminimumof3playersonthecourtinordertoplay.2. Itshallbetheresponsibilityoftheawayteamtomakealternatesweater

arrangementswhenthereisaconflictbetweentwoteamcolours.

3. Eachplayermustwearmatchingcolourstobeeligibletoplay.4. Men'sbasketballwillbeheldinanindoorgym,Women'sbasketballwill

beheldatanoutdoorbasketballcourt.

B)Equipment

1. Nojewellery(unlessproperlytapeddown),non-elasticheadbands,orhardsupportbracesareallowedduringgametime.Captainswillbewarnedatthebeginningofthegametohavealltheirplayersremovesuch

items.Duringthegame,playersfoundwithsuchitemswillbeaskedto

leaveplayuntiltheitemisremoved.Consistentviolationduringthegame

isatechnicalfoul.(Note:SeeNHSFrulesformoreinformationabout

prohibiteditemsonthecourt.)

2. Agameballwillbeprovidedforgameplayonly(notforpracticing).Practiceequipmentmaybesignedoutattheequipmentdesk(if

available).

3. Allplayersmusthaveapinnie/jerseywithadefinedandseparatenumberonit,andmustbeincontrastingcolourtotheopposingteam.Itistheresponsibilityofthecaptaintosignoutpinniesfromtheequipmentdesk

priortogameplay.

4. Propergymattiremustbeworntoparticipate(nojeansorpants/shortswithzippers).Properathleticfootwearforthesportisrequired(Running

shoeswithnon-markingsoles-nostreetshoes,boots,dressshoes,bare

feet,orsandalsetc).

C)GameLengths

1. Round-robingamesconsistoftwo12minuteruntimehalves.Quarter-Final,Semi-FinalsandFinalswillconsistoftwo15,15and20minuteruntimehalvesrespectively.Stoptimewilloccurinthelast2-minutesofthe

secondhalfunlessateamisaheadbymorethan9pointsattheone

minutemark.

2. Overtimewillonlytakeplaceduringplayoffgamesandshallconsistofone2minutestoptimeperiod.Consecutiveovertimewilloccuruntil

someoneisvictorious.

3. Half-timewillconsistof2minuteforround-robingames,and5minutesforplayoffgames,unlessthegameisbehindschedule,inwhichcasethe

refereecanshortenthelengthofhalf-time.Half-timemustbeatleast2minutes.1minuteisgivenpriortothestartofanovertimeperiod.

D)Gameplay

1. Eachteamisgiven1non-transferabletime-outperhalf.Onetime-outisgivenperteamintheovertimeperiod.Time-outsare30secondslong

each.

2. Therefereeadministersthrow-insinthefront-court.Therefereeonlyadministersthrow-insintheback-courtonafoulcallandduringstop-

timesituations.Allothertimes,teamsareallowedtoinboundtheball

fromthespotclosesttowheretheballwentout,assoonastheygain

controloftheball.

3. Freesubstitutioncanoccuranytimeexceptonfreethrowsaslongasplayingtimeisnotimpeded.Tosubstitute,aplayermustrunin/outatthe

designatedbencharea.Consistentviolationisatechnicalfoul.

4. Back-courtcommonfoulswillonlybeshotduringstoptimewhentheirteamisinthebonussituation.Intentionalflagrantortechnicalfoulsarealwaysshotregardlessofwhentheytakeplace.

5. Playerswillhavefivesecondstoinboundtheballwheneveritissentoutofplay,andtensecondstocrosshalfcourt.

6. Apossessionarrowwilldeterminewhogetspossessionofeachjumpballandwhogetspossessionoftheballatthestartofthesecondhalf.For

example,ifTeamAwinsthetipoff,thepossessionarrowwillpointto

TeamBandTeamBwillgetpossessionoftheballwhenthenextjump

balliscalled(orathalftimeifnojumpballiscalledinthehalf).The

possessionarrowwillthenpointtoTeamA,whowillgetpossessionof

thenextjumpball,andsoon.

7. Thefollowingoffensiveviolationswillalsoawardtheopposingteamwithpossessionoftheball:

a)Threesecondsinthekey

b)Traveling/doubledribble

c)Goingoverthehalfcourtlineandback

d)Offensivefoul

e)Steppingoutofbounds

f)Settinganillegalscreen(movingscreen)

8. Forsafetyreasons,thefollowingwillbeineffectinregardstosavingaballfromoutofbounds:-Anysaveattemptmadeblindly(i.e.refereebelievesthatplayer

isunawareofsurroundings)theballwillbeconsideredoutof

boundsregardlessofthesaveattempt.

Nosaveattemptsaretobemadeintentionallyoffanopposing

player.Anysuchactionswillresultintheballbeingcalledoutof

bounds.

Playersarepermittedtointentionallysavetoateammate,toan

openareaofthecourt(ifdeemedintentionalbythereferee),ortocallatimeout.

E)Defaults

1. Ifateamfailstoappearwithaminimumof3playerswithinfiveminutespastthescheduledstartofthegame,theywilldefaultthegametothe

opposition.DefaultedgamesmayresultinalossofSpiritDeposit.

2. Thewinningteaminadefaultedgamewillbegiven3pointsanda20-0victoryorthescorethatstoodatthetimeofdefaultifthenon-defaulting

teamwasaheadatthetime.

3. Theteamawardedthewinforthedefaultedgamemayusetheremainingtimeandrinkfacilitytimeforpracticepurposes.Membersofthe

defaultingteamcanremainontheflooronlywiththepermissionofthe

winningteam.

4. Defaultedgamesshallbecountedinthedurationofasuspension.F)TournamentStandings

1. Inroundrobinplay,standingsshallbedecidedonthefollowingpointsystem:

- 3pointsforawininthedivisionalstandings- 1pointforatieinthedivisionalstandings- 0pointsforaloss

2. Playoffgameswillfollowtheplayoffbracketprovidedandwillbesingleelimination.

3. Divisionalstandingwillberankedbasedonthenumberofpoints.Inthe

eventofatieinthestandings,thefollowingwillbeusedastiebreakers

(inthisorder):totalwins,pointsfor,pointsagainst,recordbetween

teams,cointoss.

4. Intheeventofadivisionwithanoddnumberofteams,oneteamchosenatrandomwillplay2gamesratherthan3.Thisteamwillreceivea200

winand3pointsinthestandings(defaultwin).

G)Fouls

1. Fivepersonalfoulsarepermitted.Whenaplayerreceiveshis/herfifthpersonalfoul,he/sheissuspendedfromfurtherplay.

2. Technicalfoulscountaspersonalfoulsandteamfouls.3. 7teamsfoulsplacesateaminthebonussituation.10+teamfoulsplacesa

teaminthedoublebonussituation(automatictwoshots).

4. Atechnicalfoultothebenchcountsasapersonalfoultothecaptain.Thisisthesameifgiventoaplayeralreadyejectedformthegame.

5. Twotechnicalfoulsandtheplayerisejectedfromthatgame.ThenatureofthetechnicalwilldeterminebythePSGcommitteeiffurtheractionisnecessary.

6. Technicalfoulsaretwoshotspluspossessionatthedivisionline.7. Intentionalfoulsaretwoshotspluspossessionatthespotnearestto

wherethefoultookplace.

Onfoulshots,ALLPLAYERSmustwaituntiltheballhitsthebasketrim

beforemovingintothekey.

9. Ifateamshouldreceivetwodirecttechnicalfoulsthenthegamewillbeoverassoonasthesecondoneisgiven.Ifateamiswinningandasecond

directtechnicalisawardedtotheteam,thegamewillbetreatedasa

forfeitandthelosingteamwillbeawardeda20-0winandpotentially

losetheirspiritdeposit.Thescorewillstand,asis,whenalosingteamis

awardedtwodirecttechnicals.

10.Anyplayerejectedmaybeaskedtoleavethegymbytheofficials.FailuretodosomayresultinatechnicalfoultothecaptainoraConductReview.
