Reminders for this week’s and the rest of the month’s events:
1) Tuesday, September 10, Grandparent’s Day for 1st Grade at 9 am
2) Friday, September 13, Grandparent’s Day for 2nd and 3rd Grade at 9 am

Director for a more detailed schedule of the events for Math Week.)
4) September 16 to October 23, Hispanic Heritage Month. The culminating activity for this
month was changed from Wednesday, October 16 to Wednesday, October 23. More
information will be provided we approach the date.
5) Wednesday, September 25, representatives from ASME INSPIRE Foundation will share with the
7th, 8th and 9th graders information and their experiences with careers related to engineering and the
integration of STEM. This event will be in the Learning Center in the afternoon.
6) Friday, September 27, September Student of the Month celebration at 8:30 am. We hope that the
family members of the students receiving such recognition can join us on that day.

Cada año escolar representa un reto porque la dificultad académica también avanza. Por esto, muchos estudiantes pueden presentar síntomas relacionados a ansiedad generalizada, muchas veces relacionada a los exámenes. Espero que esta información tomada de https://kidshealth.org/es/teens/test-anxiety-esp.html pueda ayudarles a manejar mejor esta situación: Has hecho todos los deberes, has hincado los codos a la hora de estudiar y crees que dominas bastante la materia. Pero llega el día el examen, de repente, te quedas completamente en blanco, bloqueado, como si estuvieras congelado, o te pones tan nervioso que eres incapaz de responder a esas preguntas que te sabías la noche anterior. Si todo eso te parece familiar, es bastante probable que tengas ansiedad ante los exámenes: esos nervios extremos que experimentan algunas personas cuando van a hacer un examen. La ansiedad ante los exámenes es un tipo de ansiedad de ejecución, una sensación que puede experimentar una persona en una situación donde importa mucho el rendimiento o existe una gran presión por hacer las cosas bien. Por ejemplo, una persona puede experimentar ansiedad de ejecución cuando va a salir a actuar en la obra de teatro de final de curso, a cantar un solo en un escenario, a subirse a la plataforma para tirarse a la piscina de clavado o a hacer una entrevista importante. Como en cualquier otra situación donde una persona puede experimentar ansiedad de ejecución, en un examen, la ansiedad puede hacer que sienta que se le hace un nudo en la garganta, se le revuelva el estómago, le duela la tripa o tenga un dolor de cabeza tensional. A algunas personas les tiemblan y/o les sudan las manos, y el corazón les late más deprisa de lo normal mientras esperan a que les repartan el examen. Un estudiante con una ansiedad ante los exámenes muy fuerte puede llegar a vomitar y hasta se puede llegar a desmayar. Esto puede interferir en su concentración e impedir que haga bien un examen. ¿Qué puedes hacer? La ansiedad ante los exámenes se puede convertir en un verdadero problema cuando una persona se estresa tanto al hacer un examen que no puede controlar los nervios para centrarse en las preguntas del examen y dar lo máximo de sí misma. De todas formas, sentirse
preparado para afrontar el reto puede ayudar a mantener la ansiedad ante los exámenes a un nivel manejable. Utiliza un poco de estrés a tu favor. El estrés es el mecanismo de aviso de tu cuerpo: es una señal que te ayuda a prepararte para algo importante que está punto de ocurrir. Utilízalo en tu propio beneficio. En vez de reaccionar ante el estrés amedrentándote, lamentándote o quejándote del examen con tus amigos, adopta un enfoque activo. Deja que el estrés te recuerde que has de estudiar bien el examen con tiempo de antelación. Pide ayuda. Aunque un poco de ansiedad puede ser algo positivo, una sobredosis es otro cantar. Si, cuando te reparten el examen, te pones tan nervioso que se te queda la mente en blanco y se te olvidan las respuestas que te sabías, probablemente necesitas ayuda para controlar tu ansiedad ante los exámenes. Tu profesor, tu tutor o tu orientador escolar pueden ser personas importantes con quienes hablar si te cuesta controlar tu ansiedad ante los exámenes. Prepárate bien el examen. Para aprenderse una materia, hace falta mucho más que confiar en absorber toda la información en clase. Por eso son tan importantes unos buenos hábitos de estudio y unas buenas técnicas de estudio; el estudio acelerado la noche antes del examen no permite obtener el nivel de comprensión más profundo que se consigue invirtiendo tiempo en una materia al estudiarla con regularidad. Muchos estudiantes comprueban que su ansiedad ante los exámenes disminuye cuando empiezan a estudiar mejor o con más regularidad. Tiene sentido, cuanto mejor te sepas la materia, más seguro te sentirás. Controla tus pensamientos. Si el hecho de esperar hacer bien un examen te puede ayudar a relajarte, ¿qué ocurrirá cuando esperes que no lo vas a hacer bien? Fíjate en cualquier mensaje negativo que te puedas estar enviando a ti mismo sobre el examen. Este tipo de mensajes pueden contribuir a tu ansiedad. Sustituye pensamientos negativos por mensajes prácticos y verdaderos, como: "He estudiado y me sé la materia, de modo que estoy preparado para dar lo mejor de mí mismo". Acepta tus errores. Otra cosa que puedes hacer es intentar relativizar los errores que cometas, sobre todo si eres muy perfeccionista y tiendes a ser muy crítico y muy duro contigo mismo. Todo el mundo comete errores, los errores son "oportunidades de aprendizaje". Cuídate. Te puede ayudar mucho aprender formas de tranquilizarte y de relajarte cuando estés tenso o ansioso. A algunas personas les bastará con aprender ejercicios de respiración. Si cuidas de tu salud, por ejemplo, durmiendo lo suficiente, haciendo ejercicio físico con regularidad y alimentándote de forma saludable antes del examen, ayudarás a tu mente a rendir al máximo. Todo requiere tiempo y práctica, y aprender a superar la ansiedad ante los exámenes no es diferente. Aunque no es algo que vaya a desparecer de la noche a la mañana, el hecho de afrontar y de aprender a controlar la ansiedad ante los exámenes te ayudará a aprender a controlar el estrés, lo que te puede acabar siendo de gran ayuda en muchas otras situaciones, aparte de en los exámenes. “Somos lo que hacemos día a día.
