WHAT IS BASIS?
BASIS (Business Action to Support the Information Society) is an initiative by the
International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). It serves as the voice of global business in the
international dialogue on how information and communication technologies (ICTs) can better
serve as engines of economic growth and social development.
BASIS is the recognized business focal point in the post-UN World Summit on the
Information Society (WSIS) activities, having built productive communications with all
stakeholder groups; governments, international organizations, civil society and the Internet
technical community.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS FOR BASIS MEMBERS?
Receiving updated information on the global discussions on Internet governance and
ICTs
Building relationships and impacting policy discussions with members from across
sectors and geographies, and representatives from governments, international
organizations, the Internet technical community and civil society
Receiving recognition for your expertise: opportunities to recommend speakers and
experts to participate in global, regional and national events and working groups
Enhancing company’s exposure online: company or association profile with logo on
ICC BASIS website and communication materials
Supporting company’s corporate social responsibility, public good and positive
corporate image
Having access to practical tools developed by ICC’s Digital Economy Commission
WHERE DOES BASIS ADVOCATE?
BASIS advocates policy positions shaped within the ICC’s Commission on the Digital
Economy, and coordinates business input to international fora such as:
Internet Governance Forum (IGF)
UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD)
World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Action Lines forum
WSIS+10 review process
National governments and intergovernmental and international organizations
Global Multistakeholder Meeting on the Future of Internet Governance (NetMundial)

WHICH COMPANIES AND ASSOCIATIONS ARE BASIS MEMBERS?
IS THERE A MEMBERSHIP FEE?
Yes, an annual membership fee is applicable to cover the costs of the activities:
Companies based in developed countries: EUR 10,000-15,000
SMEs and companies based in developing countries: minimum EUR 5,000
Non-profit business associations: EUR 1,500-2,000
CAN I JOIN BASIS IF MY ORGANIZATION IS NOT AN ICC MEMBER?
Yes. Non-ICC members are welcome to join BASIS and are required to contribute financially
towards the costs of the BASIS activities.
BASIS members must be completely privately held entities, with no governmental or other
interests involved. Members must also provide information about their company/association,
mailing address, contact details, and website. Applications are reviewed to ensure

membership requirements are complied with.
